Even the movie. Despite being more serious/straightforward, there's no sense of tension, terrible CGI, uninteresting and forgettable characters, shitty "twist". Don't even bother, can barely even consider it a movie.

So I'd love to have a Witch's House and Ib anime, but don't let DEEN touch them, ever.
Replying twice but I just ran across this on Youtube and its amazing how its more like an actual Ao Oni anime... and also has a great replica of a 1990s aesthetic. Like wait, digital animation can do that?

In the 2000's it wasn't weird for westernized openings to be far better than the original Japanese counterparts.
Although also in the 2000s most weebs would've eviscerated you for saying so.

I really like the JP intro but that 4kids one does have a vibe to it.

Yes, actually, quite a bit of late-'90s anime were done digitally like that. Check out Colorful in that regard.

sometimes it wasn't just the opening. The plastic era of beyblade had its entire ost replaced with western insert songs and iirc my 10 year old self lapped that shit up for better or worse.

Except no. This opening is trash

This however is great and not censored unlike US cucks

Other examples of americans producers being fucking insane:

The whole europe, latin america and japan vibes to Pegasus Fantasy to this day and americans do this shit.

But then, 30 years later they get their chance and still do the most boring job

Or even other series luke yu yu hakusho, americans cant just leave the damn thing as it is, they must ruin all instruments like this shit

I really wanted to understand why they changed so many shit for no reason at all. The only good reason is that they were jews that did not wanted to pay the money for the music or they were the big racists

Finished my first rewatch in ages of Gurren Lagann and God, we're just never going to get another anime like that again, are we? Everything about it was a perfect storm, dub included. Kill la Kill was awesome as well and was probably similar in reception, but it was a different show altogether and played things up in its own special way. However, Gurren Lagann has such raw energy that hasn't been topped that it just makes me sad that we apparently hit a peak and still haven't found another like that in 16 years.

Oh yeah, Gurren Lagann is 16 years old this year. Haha what the fuck.

There is something close that came out about an year ago called Back Arrow. It's not as good & kinda slow, but I'd say it's kino.

Back Arrow is good and has a great universe and setup, but it just lacks something compared to Gurren Lagann which it desperately wants to be. I think it's how it's slow for the longest time before it escalates just too damn fast for me to catch my breath. It feels like they consciously tried to make something like Gurren Lagann (or G Gundam, there's a bunch of similarities and references) instead of just making an awesome over the top show. I should like it a lot more, I'm glad it exists, and I had a blast watching it, but something about it feels frustrating.

In a similar fashion, it's fun to see old interpretations of what could have been the future, like Macross 7 & else

That show will be exactly 30 years old next year (aired in 1994).

the early 2000s had some decent western opening, but its nothing against what came before...

The best anime opening of all times is the german version of a forgotten pulp anime...

The real reason is because they're bigger jews than you think they are. A big reason why soundtracks were changed is because the dub companies got royalties for using their music instead of the original Japanese score.

If you ever wondered why Funimation stopped using the Faulconer score on TV it's cause of a lawsuit between them. And it's where we learned Funimation was earning money from using a dub score and seemingly ripping off Faulconer (who himself was ripping off the actual composers who were making tracks for him but that's a separate topic).

AGREED FINAL JUDGMENT orders as follows: All claims of all Parties are dismissed with prejudice; Faulconer Productions and/or Bruce Faulconer shall continue to be entitled to receive the composer's share of any performance royalties administered by Broadcast Music Inc for the music that FRMC and/or Bruce Faulconer composed and delivered to Funimation Productions LTd and/or Funimation Production Inc including specifically, but without limitation, all music which is subject to the Litigation (the Music). Funimation and Funimation Productions shall not be obligated to pay any royalties for any use of the Music in any media, except the composer's share of any television performance royalties for which Funimation or Funimation Productions Inc becomes obligated to pay to BMI for broadcast by Funimation or Funimation Production Inc of the Music on a Funimation or Funimation Productions Inc-owned and/or operated television braodcast network and Funimation and/or Funimation Productions Inc agree to secure a license with BMI for administration of such performance royalties, or pay to FRMC or Bruce Faulconer directly the amount which would otherwise be payable to BMI; FRMC and Bruce Faulconer have acknowledged, agreed, and affirmed that Funimation is the sole owner of any and all copyrights, rights, title, and interest in and to the Music, notwithstanding FRMC's and/or Bruce Faulconer's aforementioned composer's share of the performance royalties; FRMC and Bruce Faulconer have assigned any interest they may have in any copyrights in the Music to Funimation, notwithstanding FPMC's and/or Bruce Faulconer's aforementioned composer's share of the performance royalties; Funimation is the sole and exclusive owneer of all right, title, and interest, including all copyright interests, in the Music, notwithstanding FPMC's and/or Bruce Faulconer's aforementioned composer's share of the performance royalties; To the extent that wording of this judgment concerning the Parties' agreement conflicts with the wording of the Compromise Settlement Agreement entered by the Parties, the Compromise Settlement Agreement will control. Signed by Judge Richard A. Schell on 2/9/06. (ttm, ) (Entered: 02/10/2006)

Jesus christ, no wonder anime took so long for muricans to get it, you fucks had to live with this jewery for so long. I believed that making macross into robotech just for 65 episodes for sindication by making it up connections with different series was greedy and now this shit.

It really is a show that just gets better with time.
I think what makes Gurren Lagann so timeless is it's ability to present all the same earnest values people learned as kids but present it in a way that isn't shallow and actually feels genuine. It's saying all the same stuff any Disney movie, self help books or sigma idealogue would, but it actually believes it, while also pointing out how taking that shit too far has obvious consequences. And it IS actually deep in the way most shit pretends to be. And it's such a genuine, passionate show that spits in the face of all the nihilistic bullshit that the last ten years have drilled into people. The Antispiral is literally the closest thing to the personification of reddit ("we have no need to understand, all we need is to know").
There's been some anime that have come out since that I love about as much, but nothing will ever be Gurren Lagann. It really is something that you can tell everyone making it put their heart and soul into. It also has one of the most recognizables artstyles of any anime. It was Gainax at it's peak. Seriously, whenever that style is referenced you know exactly where it's from.

You know another show we'll never see again that I think was lightning in a bottle?
Eureka Seven. It was literally that transitional show that showed how anime could be very stylized and genre-heavy but also not be complete weeb bait. Realistic character designs, beautiful animation, one of the best soundtracks, some of the best character development I've seen for most of the cast and just a really beautiful story. To me it's everything I wish Code Geass was. It kind of helps that it was literally the first anime I ever watched by even going back again I appreciate it even more. I don't think anything will ever be close to what it was trying to achieve. If they had made it a year or two before, it would be overly pretentious, artsty and half it's length and if they made it two years later it would look shitty and be catered to otakus and be a quarter of it's length. It was just a perfect show for me.
