The last few chapters of Nagatoro have been on a tear.
I can't express how nice it is to see a romance manga eschew the usual tropes. Even when the male lead is a fucking idiot it's not as contrived as what I'm used to. The friends are on-board with the relationship instead of meddling bastards, they'll even run interference to let the kids actually talk to each other, nobody nurses a grudge for six chapters because of hamfisted melodrama, etc.
This show better get a third season, because the best content is forthcoming.
I'm kinda tuning out of the current season, the MC losing his glasses and doing a lot of sport related stuff feels a bit too much of a change in character.

Nevermind the fact that the main bad guy gets stopped through the power of his mom scolding him. Shaman King is propped up by nostalgia more than being a great manga.
Honestly, I think people just remember the anime adaption, which sure has taken a few shortcuts with certain characters and etc, but at least in that the bad guy got what he deserved. That being sliced in half and then exploding,

I'm not surprised the reboot sucked, if you read the manga it was some terrible arse shit. Specially when they tried to forgive the badguy all because "he dun have no friends"
I actually heard a lot of good things about that, why was it bad? i honestly cant read the manga, everything looks the goddamn same once the artstyle shift happened

It was, just the wrong country was hit.
Its funny because the tards who usually say retarded shit like that have no hobbies of their own and are often extreme consoomers with no personality of their own, yet will constantly LARP as if everyone else is the problem. As they actively try to murder anything remotely hobby related outside of "work, consoom, obey."

If anime was gone, then what? They've already killed sports and any in person hobbies like tabletop games with their wolf crying and cliquish bullshit. They would just spam the BAN/BLOCK button and never have an actual followup in mind until they get decked for running their mouth or BTFO and only come back to escalate with their group of normfag friends.

I also find it funny that those said people also call other countries based, for banning those said hobbies they don't like, i.e. when North Korea sends people (and their entire family) to labor camps, or even executes them, just for listening to K-Pop, or watching South Korean dramas. Although maybe Kim Jung-Un does have a point, with firing squading people for the former, and arguments could be said for the latter.

And I'd want to watch the seething, if their favorite hobby gets people sent to gulags instead.

I really enjoyed Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan.
I'm trying to finish Goodnight Punpun but jesus does it hit home at times, and I know the worst is yet to come.

I haven't watched an anime in a bit. Got around to Shield Hero, and it's pretty good. It could be better, it feels rushed and there's some things I don't like, but it's fine. That 4th episode was great. It's funny how he always improvises with those little monsters.
Same the second season was shit.

Ugh, that fucking sucks. Better slow down on my binge.
Alright, it doesn't neccessarily... suck. It's just very uninspired. The direction and pacing felt off. I don't even read light novels and don't care about omissions but it was one of the few times where watching something I was just like "Yeah, they skipped something."
Don't worry too much though. Season 1 is still actually really good throughout.

So you could tell something was off without even being familiar with the source material? Hm, guess it makes sense that they skipped something considering the second season is half the length of the first. I was wondering what was up with that.

My only disappointment so far is the main guy doesn't use that little critters anymore. Obviously he doesn't need them now but I liked that.

That's one of the worst elements of the show. The shield is just a little too op after a while that you wonder why he doesn't use certain abilities he absolutely could in most circumstances.
My only real gripe with the show and when I feel it gets too "power-fantasy" is how the other 3 heroes are made just to be walking jokes and get no real development. Overall really good though.

I'll be honest and say there's almost no new anime I plan to watch this year. At best I'll watch AoT and Jujutsu Kaisen.

Oh, I just need to bring up how retarded I think the Armin/Annie ship is. Why did they have to do that? I know the whole point of the show is everyone is multifaceted and there are no "good people" but jesus Armin. She's never apologized for trying to kill most of your crew. I really am getting tired of every anime having to have everyone be overly empathetic to the point they excuse any actions of other characters.

Basically, the manga starts falling apart when they find out the main bad guy's backstory how his mom was killed by bandits, then because of that he started hating humanity and developed a power to read minds because "he had no fwiends" shit. The characters not only allow him to become the Shaman King (basically fucking God), but they forgive him for all the murders he did (Seriously, this fucker murders and consumes the soul of a lil' girl shaman), all lives he ruined and his plans for genocide.

I'm cautiously optimistic because I think DBS has steadily been getting better. BoG and Resurrection F were meh, and there's been some terrible filler, but the universe 6 and "Future" Trunks arcs were pretty good, and Universe Survival arc and Broly were outstanding. I wasn't a fan of Super Hero, but other people seem to like it. But whatever happens, at least we got some high points and that's more than I can say for any other current year reboot. This might be the first reboot I've seen in awhile with content that is actually on par or better than the original.
I wouldn't go that far, DBS Broly is probably the only time they got as good as Toriyama. Maybe the final episode of DBS too since it had that insane final scene with the Ultra Instinct Theme and everyone teaming up.
Overall, DBS (anime and manga) lacks Toriyama aesthetics and soul. You could pick a random DB page and chances are it's probably something iconic and memorable where Toriyama flexed his artistic skills just because he could. DBS, not so much.

I can think of 2 or 3 great pages/scenes in DBS, but they were delivered on a consistent basis in DB.

His mom was killed by monks because they thought she was a demon since she could talk to demons but being so young, Hao believed it too which made it easier to see humans as an other who were hostile towards him, that was just the initial hatred though. The dude lived through multiple lifetimes of really bad periods in history being able to read people's minds and see how many of them actually were just bad people. I think he said at one point that loneliness gives you the ability to read minds which is kind of backed up by Anna having that ability before meeting Yoh but Hao actually gained the ability from using the demon Ohachiyo's oversoul and absorbing that ability from him permanently. NGL, Hao is probably one of my favorite villains in fiction because he's obviously a bad dude but with his experiences, you can kind of understand why and he was just a crushing force all throughout the series that no one ever came close to being able to beat. It makes sense to me that in the end, they needed to talk-no-jutsu him out of it and everyone he's ever done bad shit to coming out and forgiving him before he's reunited with his mom came pretty close to making me cry when I read it for the first time at like 16 so maybe I'm just extremely biased but I don't like people slandering my nigga Hao.

Also, Flowers did a lot of retcon bullshit which basically made it so the entire first series was pointless and Hao would not have been able to commit genocide if he wanted. I got some spoilers saying shit about how it just makes you into like a council member or something and you need to gain approval before doing something, idk, it sounded awful so I'm just never reading Flowers.

I've heard elsewhere that the spear guy has the ability to rewind time and the events of the show happened because he always changed the past when the shield guy kicked the bucket, kinda making his efforts feel less impactful.

Shield Hero is alright at the start but quickly becomes a yet another isekai power fantasy with some extra inferiority complex. Japanese like the idea of "I have some niche power and make it into gamebreaking" but keep making the power level rise exponentially to the point that the build up is still as easy as any shonen.

Just wondering could Onizuka work today or is it a product of its time?
Probably in Japan only. It's kinda similar to South Park in its vulgarity.

If you aren't aware, it's still ongoing and the recent series is being scanlated here: http://shonanjunaigumi.weebly.com/

It's currently at Chapter 172 and manga aggregators are too lazy to update, so you have to get it from the source.

Speaking of shaman king, I vaguely recall it getting a rewritten version.
Iirc the series did get axed in jump and the author was told to wrap it up in 3 chapters way back when. And a few years ago a different Japanese publisher got the rights to the series they reprinted the manga and the author got a chance to change things.

Now I don't know how exactly the endings are different and I don't really care much since growing up I enjoyed watching it on 4kids/jetix (although it was far from my favorite) and later on YouTube in 1/3 parts sometime in the late 00s early 10s, but I didn't really try to go beyond said 4kids dub.
