Dig this crazy manga

How would the activists spin this?
Seems interesting, feels like a kino rom-com. Also, holy shit, it's got 105 chapters.

Also...

Soul Taker brings back some random memories, I was just flipping through late night tv and found it. I think it was on SciFi back before they were SyFy. The episode had to be a later one near the end of the series and I had no idea what was going on but it looked badass and that was good enough for me.

I mean okay, this tells me the showering is because Made in Abyss makes you feel dirty.... but like I said I barely know anything. I've just seen the OP (friend showed it to me) and I thought the character designs were cute.

What, is this one of those anime that looks innocent but is actually super pedophilic or something?
Yeah it's super cute, go watch it.

Siiigh. I'm seriously starting to wonder if its possible for a manga to have adorable character designs without it being pedophilic.
What about Yotsuba? Nichijou? Even recent Bocchi the Rock? I guess concept of "moe" and CGDCT don't count as adorable then, like Yuru Camp, Non Non Biyori, Comic girls, Lucky Stars, K-on, etc.... Still pedophilic?

Not even something girly magical girl show like Pretty Cure, or something old school like Princess Tutu, no? Maybe it's starting to be a "you problem".

How about trying whatever pet theme, guardian-parenting, or chibi.

There are many more.... Unless somehow, you have such limited access to google and anime-manga sites that you can't even find these.

Edit: forgot about Shadow House

I think it gets pretty good about halfway through the TV show or so when it really starts getting you wondering about the mysteries behind everything. But it does suck the pacing is like that since it makes it hard to show to people not so into old-school mecha shit (Be Invoked is IMO a classic anyone with decent taste would appreciate). I wish the first Ideon movie was on the level of the original Gundam trilogy in terms of presenting the plot and setting and being a good bridge to Be Invoked. Or hell, that it got a movie trilogy of that high quality with Be Invoked as Part 3.

Zeta and Turn A are well worth their run time. If anything, some Tomino shows are too short--King Gainer is great but would've been fucking perfect with more episodes and G-Reco would've actually lived up to its potential.
I completely agree. The only reason that I didn't watch A Contact (other than the fact that I'm against recap movies in general minus DYRL) is that they cut way too much out of the original series. I wish there was a happy medium between the TV series and the first movie.

To be frank.... Kiwi Farms would know more than I do. These days I tend to stick to either old favorites or "shows I wanted to watch back then but for some reason never got around to," so a lot of cutesy/moe franchises flew under my radar.

That said, thanks for restoring my faith in the Cuteness by reminding me Yotsuba and Lucky Star exist and are definitely non-sexual, no matter what TV Tropes might say.

(Made in Abyss was actually something I had torrented and planned to watch because it looked cute, but now that I've heard its pedophilic, I think I'll be deleting my torrents).

So, in honor of Leiji Matsumoto, fansubber The Skaro Hunting Society found and subbed a betamax recording of when the final episode of Galaxy Express 999 first aired on TV, complete with commercials and everything.

MiA is legitimately great and one of the best ongoing fantasy manga around, the author is great at designing monsters and characters, the ost is amazing, the characters are interesting and likable.

It just happens that the author also draws whatever he likes. Its the same case with Berserk. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but frankly this sort of attitude is just silly when it comes to anime and manga, borderline annoying considering the amount of grumbling over mha and the invisible girl.
forgot about Shadow House
Pretty sure that author really likes feet.

Abyss bros should we tell skykii that the anime cut down the creepy "FBI open up" stuff?

I know fiction is not reality and all that but one of the first Made in abyss things I saw was a manga cap on /a/ of the robot boy getting a tube put on his groin area and that alone made me think I'd rather not put up with sitting through the author's thinly veiled pedo tendencies. Pretty much the same thing that happened with Prism illya.

Made in Abyss is fantastic and probably has one of my favorite world designs in anime/manga, I just wouldn't let him around my kids. Not even JUST for the creepy loli shit (which is bad enough but doesnt happen super often) he has in the manga, but because he looks like some weird fusion of a 50 year old dirty bastard's face and a perfectly healthy 20 year old man's body.

The show has a few gross moments, like the little girl being strung up naked as a punishment by her teacher in one of the early episodes. Or the toilet that licked clean the girl's butt in season 2. Or that other girl who was used as a sex slave in S2. Or as aforementioned, Reg (the boy robot) being strapped in a chair with that tube connected to his bottom. But that's it as far as the explicit stuff goes (aside from the gore). But I can't help but wonder. How many times does the show bring up that Nanachi (the furry teddy bear girl) "smells good"? And I've heard about the manga.

I would recommend watching Made in Abyss S1 because it is one of the few visually imaginative fantasy anime to come out in the last decade. They travel down through multiple layers of an underworld, climbing down sheer cliffs, exploring upside forests growing out of a cavern ceiling, and getting attacked by bizzare monsters. The first half of season 2 was interesting as they explored the village of hollows, but then the second half was really boring. Also, this show has some strange morality where mass murderers get off scott free and the heroes are on good terms with them.

tbh if someone wants to be a real kiwi farmer about it and miss out on some of the best storytelling in not just animango but any medium, they're kinda getting what they deserve

you know that one mangaka that wears a fursuit for appearances, right?

nobody ever said you can't get a creepy hentai antagonist silicone head made and wear that as you troll the planet

Does anyone know how old shows like Serial Experiments Lain, Azumanga Daioh and Black Lagoon got so popular with zoomers?

Most 00s anime is forgotten, even if it was popular at the time, but then you have Azumanga and Black Lagoon, which are zoomer favorites despite them shunning most anime from that decade, how did that start?

A couple of other random ones from the 90s that I see referenced often are Golden Boy and Gunsmith Cats.

Azumanga's popularity might have something to do with it's influence on early meme culture and it still has that meme "stickiness" to it, but while these are all good animes, it's not clear to me why they get remembered when other stuff that's just as good doesn't.

And I'm not talking about evergreen franchises like DBZ, Naruto, JoJo, Eva etc, these are all things that have been over with for years or even decades, so how did they wind up being remembered and other things forgotten?
Maybe something about those stories is just still relatable to zoomers? I feel old.

Death Note and Fruits Basket have made kind of a comeback as well, I've noticed. Death Note had classic status already so it's not quite the same, but Fruits Basket was a surprise.
I think Serial Experiments Lain is supposed to be relatable to our current dystopia and that's why it's more popular - I never watched it but it's on my list now because of its resurgence.
I like seeing Zoomers getting into older series, tbh. Quite a lot into Soul Eater too; I imagine it's because of the troon character, but it's a good show regardless.

I love that this show is still bumbling along after 20 years. I'm surprised enough people watch it to continue making these considering I've never really seen people who are fans of the new stuff or talk about it.

I caught up with Return of Ragnarok and oh my god, I love Buddha. I can't wait to see more of his character. Also, Jack the Ripper did nothing wrong.

And I watched a little Trigun Stampede and am obviously disappointed. I hate Vash's updated design, and I really hate the CGI animation. I hated it in the most recent DBS movie too but it seems way worse here. Just looks like this is meant to appeal to Zoomers, which, good for them if it gets them into it and maybe they check out the older anime, but I don't like it.

TBH I'm not sure what's worse, when people tell me a show has questionable content or when people oversell a show.

Inevitably praising a work too highly--with takes like "best storytelling not just in animango but any medium"--is more likely to just make me think its overrated. Especially if its relatively modern since people could still be riding an emotional wave off of the thing--I call it the New Toy Syndrome. You really can't objectively call something "the best" until its had time to settle.

I highly doubt any anime in the last ten years could have storytelling to compare to someone like Tolkien or Osamu Tezuka on his best days though, which rules out "the best" right there.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm not refusing to watch or read Made in Abyss, I just currently have a lack of interest.

........................

On that note.... I decided to watch the first episode of the 1979 Galaxy Express TV series. Someone earlier mentioned that the ending is really different, but it turns out the beginning is really different too. I was kinda shocked that Count Mecha went down like a little bitch. Like geez, it took this half-starving frostbitten little kid less than a day to get revenge for his mom's murder.... makes you wonder what the fuck took Batman so long.

Someone was also concerned that Nyaa might not have the various TV specials.... it does. It totally does. Apparently there's four of them? ("Can You Live Like a Warrior," "Can You Love Like a Mother?" "Eternal Traveller Emeraldas," and "Glass Clair"). Can someone tell me what episodes they come between or effectively replace?
