I kinda wonder if Funi's just trying to wight their options with Super. I mean the show's first half is a rehash of the films, but with much worse animation (especially for television animation, and for Toei's own standards).Funimation's already licensed My Hero Academia. Still not a single word about Dragon Ball Super.
With Super, it's one of those Toei examples of if it's a good episode, it's pretty damn good, and if it's a bad episode, it's pretty shitty. Super has its ups and downs but even then it wouldn't be hard at all to capitalize on its popularity. Especially with the Universe 6 tournament where things are starting to get interesting.
I find Mika is... he's already seen hell. He knows what's combat's like and has matured before the series even began. He may be a mad dog at times, but some of the things he says would be in-line with what a protag would say towards the end of their series. He's also one of the only members of Tekkadan that feels like a child soldier. They try to add moments where they show how his upbringing has affected him, like difficulty expressing his feelings or illiteracy, but really it feels like they just don't know what to do with him. He's more like a mentor to Kudelia and a driving force for Orga than MC.

The latest chapter was released back in July 2014. Seems like the series is going to go the same route as Hellsing: The Dawn. At least the anime has enough material for a 1 or 2 cour series. Maybe they'll do an original story altogether
