Maybe this is a controversial opinion, but I really feel like Speed Racer is the best American live action anime adaptation. It's appropriately campy and honestly does some interesting stuff in terms of translating the visual quirks of anime into a live action setting.

Plus it helps that it is adapting something that most Americans just know as a cheap Saturday morning cartoon from the 1960s. It wouldn't exactly make a lot of people mad if the movie ended up sucking.

I like a lot of things about the "live-action" Speed Racer but the Wipeout XL-like racetracks give me nausea to the point that I'm glad I didn't see it on the big screen.

Interesting manga books that recently got translated:

I have to confess Kiwis, that sentence plus the ending lyrics made me shed a single manly tear. Made in Abyss might involve the author's creepy fetish, but god damn it might be the most aptly named Abyss in fiction. There is no going inside the abyss and coming out in one piece.

I liked it (classic OP), but it felt all over the place in tone. They did a great parodying the genre but sometimes the show would take itself way too seriously and shove a bunch of random grim shit in there.

Apparently it's a controversial opinion, but I liked Prince of Darkness more than the TV show and wish it had been a trilogy/full OVA, in large part since Prince of Darkness picked a tone and stuck to it.
man, oil countries money are definitely involved in the new grendizer project.

Imagine having so much money that you can produce content just because you enjoy things but in a total different scale

I'm still waiting for the Filipinos to fund a Voltes V remake.

Ever check out the manga? Or those games that connected the TV series and movies?

Shame it doesn't have a translation. Yet.

They should fund Captain Tsubasa, man... The manga has a bunch of new arcs that hasn't been animated yet.

PSG even came to Japan recently to meet with Takahashi:

Road to 2002 was top tier imo.

Next year mate.
It is kinda funny to see how other countries does sequel and reboots to japanese properties.
Brazil announced their Juspion live action some time ago (but they did release a sequel comic) and they are doing a Jiraya comic right now

The French did the Grendizer sequel comic and the Captain Harlock comic (And the same guy who worked on the art will do the 5 books for the new Saint Seiya book.

And two weeks ago I guess, American publisher announced their Kamen Rider comic (not something new since Brazilians also had their toku decades before, but Americans doesn't know about stuff like that)

I've never read the manga but I still remember watching the series from 2001 back then and thinking: Hyuuga is so fucking cool.

While the site was down, I finished Kabukimonogatari and Hanamonogatari

Kabuki was amazing, especially loved to see a lot more of Shinobu

Hana really fleshed out Kanbaru as a character and her dunking on Rouka is wonderful

Heard a lot of good things about the last 3 arcs of S2, so I'm excited

The upcoming Gridman X Dynazenon movie was officially announced over the weekend. Gridman Universe is coming out sometime in 2023, presumably in April to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the original toku series. Cast listings confirm the main cast from both shows (Except Akane and Gauma) are returning.

Odd watch order, most people stick Hana after Koi (as in, watch "second season" as the series as a block, then put the associated OVAs at the end)
Don't get me started on Onimonogatari though ;_;

I have fallen behind on currently airing stuff but I was enjoying Engage Kiss

Gridman series was pretty underrated, even when it was at one point gaining popularity. I hope this one is good.
