I'm on the third episode and it's fun so far. Appropriately gory and there's still plenty of titties floppin' around. They even changed back a couple of the names that Viz had changed when they brought the manga over, but I've only got the vaguest recollections of reading it. The new cast mostly does a good job. The new DS voice actor is no Kazuki Yao (But, Yao barely sounds like himself these days since he's a 12 pack a day smoker) but he's growing on me. So far so good. Hopefully all the weirder shit I remember stays in.
12 packs a day and the kind of voice he has to do for FRRRRRRANKY, his SRW cameos and what characters he still does can't have been good for his voice.

He sounded rough as Shinobu in SRW 30. I thought that dude was gonna go into a coughing fit every time.

So who's Schneider in the dub? Anyone know?

Speaking of sports anime anyone remember Yawara?

https://youtube.com/watch?v=2un0aile_Yc
Yawara is weird series for me. I did like it but to this day I still can't figure out if its better or worse the Happy which being perfectly honest are the same series aside from slightly different motivations of the MC.
I felt Yawara had a worse pacing with alot more romcom shenanigans that went nowhere (although that might because I can only find the anime of Yawara not the manga), but Happy tried to be darker and tbh said darker moments save a few either ended up being more stupid then anything.

Still find it funny that iirc the two series might be some of Urasawa's best selling works. I know 20thCB is his most popular series but Yawawa was his second and I think I remember seeing somewhere Happy was either in between Monster and Keaton or slightly above but I'm not completely sure.

A bit late, but I just saw the second Macross Frontier movie in theaters.

At the risk of sound hyperbolic, it may just be one of the most visually stunning anime films I've ever seen. Seriously, that last action scene was like Top Gun Maverick on crack, mixed with aliens and space combat. Along with it being bolstered one heck of a stunning final insert song.

...Yeah, I think this film gave me the same feeling I had watching TG:M.

So Sheryl best girl or not?

I started reading Cells at Work, first volume was fun, but jesus there are LOTS OF SPINOFFs

She definitely is, though I did find myself feeling bad for Ranka there at the end, as she was actually very likable as well (though I heard she makes some questionable choices in the series proper).

At the very least, the two girls had one heck of an awesome duet performed alongside the final battle.

The only one worth going into the most of all spin-offs is the Black one. The anime version of it censored the nudity & tuned down the gore a bit
I just finished the second volume and damn, the platelets are super cute.

Cells at Work! - c004 (v01) - p138 [dig] [Scrape Wound] [Kodansha Comics] [danke-Empire] {HQ}.png

Reading this almost 20 years after I remember watching some Ozzy and Drix is so strange, since I really enjoyed the cartoon back then.

Bastard!! has A grade T&A, nice to have an anime with so much blatant fanservice that is also (so far) with good quality.
It still suffers from muted colour pallette that plagues every anime today. I have a feeling that if you just run the series through a contrast filter it would look far better.

I don't think very highly of the dubbed version they produced in the early 2000s. If you're going to watch it dubbed, watch Robotech. The acting is all-around better.
I like how they had Mari Ijima ching chong it up for the ADV dub. Her English voice is not that bad, but for some reason they made her really lay on a thick Asian accent.

Discussion of older anime elsewhere lead me to a discussion of Star Blazers, specifically this clip. I don't think for the time period the dub was that bad but it can sound kind of goofy.

His chanting minions sound somewhat like a high school cheer squad. "Desslok Desslok Desslok! GOOOOOOOO DESSLOK! YAY! GO! FIGHT! WIN! "
