I think this is a bit of a skizo idea, but when it comes to manga I am slightly convinced there is a weeb filter in the west where 90% of all manga the gets popular on reddit or /a/ is weebshit because 90% of the scanlators are weebs that will only translate that shit (anime not so much but that's besides the point).
Every so often I find a series or two that seems interesting but gets left on the wayside because the autists translating them can't grift any internet points from them, and said series are extremely unlikely to get an anime to drive up any interest because one part volume sales, one part any adaptation in store is more likely a J-drama.
This is one of the reasons where I grudgingly give mangaplus some praise because even with shonen jump's popularity, only half the magazine was reliably translated at best beforehand and I will argue there are 5-6 series currently running that would of never gotten picked up by any scanlation team and would of never had any following in the west.
