So I finally got around to finishing the Trinity Blood Manga. It was pretty great and based.

The art is pretty gorgeous and It's a real novelty to have something unapologeticly catholic in design and themes. It starts out a little rough with Abel's characterization and the monster of the week plot, but it gets a lot better. Towards the end it even starts getting game of thrones-ish with all the Vatican assassinations, and political intrigue.

The biggest issue however, is the fact that the author died and left the series unfinished. This was way back in the early 2000's so that understandably put me off from trying this for a long time. I had hoped against hope it would be finished in the manga, but no such luck. They still did a great job finishing the last arc on a high note. Esther in particular gets great closure to her character and I felt the ending was a bit more satisfying then say Berserk.

Its interesting to look up the story notes left behind by the author, as there was enough material to keep the series going if they wanted.

There was an entire war arc between the Vatican/British/Vampires plotted out and they probably could have done a decent job with it, but his writings end right at the beginning of the final battle. There's even more detail on a complete origin story, where the colonists on mars ended up turning into vampires though alien technology.

Part of me wishes japan would have more balls to continue the works of departed creators, but I respect their dedication.

If your a big vampire hunter D fan, I think you'd have fun with it.

Dunno if this helps, but as someone who absolutely HATED seed, I enjoyed Seed Destiny. I liked how it constantly shit on kira and made him a secondary character in the grand scheme of things.
I remember trying to watch the anime for this around 2016-17, I just saw Trigun at that time, & then later completed the whole manga in a single day eventhough I started from the 1st chapter. I also saw Hellsing (both OG & Ultimate). I went into TB Anime expecting the same, but for some reason, I fell asleep by the 5th episode, I don't even remember what it was, I can't tell if it was the anime, or was it me.

The HD Remaster of both SEED and Destiny removes the recaps episodes, so if you want, go with that.

And If you drink every time you see Buster Gundam shooting the same animation in different directions you will die of alcoholic poisoning. And this is in the HD Remaster, so there even could be more in the TV version.

Also Impulse > Destiny, I love the transformation sequence of Impulse and fucking love the lasers for the combining sequence. Destiny Gundam otherwise has a good design but the color scheme is complete ass, here some edit and you can see how good it can look

Just fund out that I am a Hero got a new epilogue (70 pages) in the next publication.

And holy shit, it is kinda insane. Way better ending.

One problem with the HD remaster that should be noted is they tweak things that I personally think mess up the story somewhat and make Kira even more perfect. Big one is changing how Nicol died from it being Kira swinging at him out of instinct to Nicol literally just running into Kira's outstretched blade. It took some of the responsibility away from Kira which I feel weakened some later parts and was overall just a dumb change. Don't know if there are other parts that got changed but I know that's one of the big stand outs often brought up.

Neeko wa Tsurai yo is kind of a depressing manga, but also unrealistic in current year because any lazy but cute NEET chick would just become a twitch thot and onlyfans model.

It's not just you, I remember being bored by the anime at the time it came out as well. Manga is more faithful to the novels and did a better job keeping me entertained. Ill have to give it another watch for curiosity's sake.

I thought it was me because I was having a burnout due to as I said before, I saw Trigun before & read the whole 100+ chapter manga in a day, just a day after binging the anime. I got mainly into anime pretty recently at the time, Trigun was my 12th anime I saw & 2nd manga I read (1st was Gangsta), I was getting rapidly into some known loved series. I only got into TB because someone on 9anime once referred to TB Anime being similar, so I went in there too.

Just the next day after the full Trigun binge, I got into binging the TB anime & I think it may have been boring cause I don't remember shit about the 4 episodes I saw (granted it may be cause of the sleepiness & that this is an years old thing). I think it was around the 4-8 min mark of the 5th episode that led me to fall asleep, until my mother woke me up an hour later. Also, it's not the first time either I fell asleep watching something, trying to read the HxH manga was a hurtful experience of it own, & I mean literal, physical, self-harm.

The show, to put it nicely, is very wanting. Oddly, enough probably like you, it interested me to get into the books and manga which personally I also find wanting as well, but I think it's fair to say they're better than the show.

There's no doubt in my mind that if the creator had been around to finish it, it would have gone down as a classic.

Here's the creators notes in full, http://newhumanempire.weebly.com/canon-summa-theologica.html What we got is good but it could have been so much more.

Even so, the world building and lore is excellent in my opinion. I love how it's one of the few series that has a scientific explanation for the supernatural, that doesn't ruin the mystique and appeal of it. I think that's because it takes a warhammer 40k approach to technology.

Saw Belle in theaters (friend and I were the only ones there, but it's a weekday). So uh...

I can at least say the visuals were nice, and the music was actually well-done for the dub. That's something that you don't get much often in dubbed anime is dubbed music that's pleasing to the ear. Lyrics might be different in Japanese anyway, but the music I doubt was changed, and Suzu's voice-actress did a great job.

But I don't really have a lot of positives in terms of the story itself. It just felt bloated and the surprise child abuse reveal for the third act just comes off as disingenuous because the build-up to who Dragon was was so full of red herrings that the reveal of the kid was just a "Dafuq, really?" moment, but it also was clearly used to strike emotional climatic beats instead of being a natural part of the narrative. As a result of that and other things going on throughout the movie including Suzu avoiding her dad majority of the film, it doesn't feel like Suzu really grows outside of being able to have the courage to sing around people again as herself. That's not an engaging character dynamic.

Also I'm sick and tired of Mamoru Hosoda putting in visual and storybeat references to his previous works into his movies. Stop reminding me of Summer Wars, The Boy and the Beast, Wolf Children, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and even Our War Game and be more original in story and art (if there were any references to Mirai, I missed it because that movie didn't really do much for me). You want me to watch Belle, don't you? Reminding me of these other movies isn't helping in keeping my interest.

Oh, and there was near plagiarism of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, like lmao, so I guess in order to do an "homage" to the most iconic version of the fairy tale, you have to rip scenes, lines, and frames directly from the movie itself. :story: Just made me want to go rewatch that for the gazillionth time instead of continuing to watch the movie.

So yeah, chalk that up to another Hosoda movie I'm not gonna watch again any time soon, if at all. I swear he peaked with Wolf Children.

The same dilemma I keep seeing with Makoto Shinkai and his movies lately. The last peak was 5cm per Second and everything else has either been over-referencing past films or just complete visual garbage. It makes one wonder how bad the anime industry is if anime originals have been massively garbage (Wonder Egg Priority) compared to vidya and movie originals, and the recent seasons have been nothing but sequels/continuations of already popular IP. I even forget what to watch this year so I just stuck myself rewatching Akira again.
