The original quote
"Instead of relying on the dualism of evil / good, he wanted to represent how two characters can responsibly live their lives despite having different ideas. Exactly. I wanted both of them to keep their case. Kira is Kira, Lacus is Lacus, Shinn is Shinn. Athrun had recently begun to decide what to think, initially he too shared Dullindal's points of view."
What does what you just said have anything to do with him sharing Dullindal pov from the original quote?
Because it was his motivation to do ANYTHING, he had to be on Gil's side to do anything he could, if he stayed up at Cagalli's side, he wouldn't be able do make anything. Him being separated from her but still together (doing what they believe, not the romantic part) is what he could do for both of them could act in their limits. It was quite clear in that scene that she removes the ring and he notices.
His motivation is to be an active player, not just a pawn, but in the end, when he wasn't a pawn anymore, they tried to take him out.
On another note...ok so the writer's pov was that Kira, Lacus, and Shinn wouldn't change as characters then? So no character arcs...for any of them (or for that matter almost all the characters)? And you wonder why people don't like Destiny. That's one (emphasis added) reason why. At the very least they should have gotten rid of Kira (something I heard they did consider doing by the way in the previous show) and Lacus, or at the very least, essentially write Lacus off early on say with an attempted or actual assassination. As for Shinn, I might not have mind if essentially he ended up being a tragic character so long as he or the other characters weren't sidelined in the end by the old characters. Especially the older characters that don't change (i.e. Lacus and Kira).
Did you read the link that I first posted? Chiaki motives for this are in that. But in my opinion, both Lacus and Kira in destiny are not characters that change, Shinn and Athrun do, Shinn being manipulated into doing what Gil wanted, and Athrun being opposite, and in the whole series they are opposite to each other, Athrun isn't a good mentor at all, he couldn't help Shinn, and Rey and Gil reinforced his actions by praising him and promoting him to be a Faith member too.
But just read the whole interview, it will shed light to her thought process, something that made me fit the pieces better than just REEEEEEEEEEE SHINN ISN'T KAMILLE AND PIERCED THE BAD GUY IN THE END!!!
Hell, we are clearly doing what she wanted the public to do: "
I was hoping that viewers would discuss the various characters with their friends. I don't think Shinn is the kind of character that can be liked when judged at first glance. But as in the case of Fllay, looking at them closely, everyone can find small fragments of themselves. This is why I didn't want him to accept Kira's request, but to remain a
dark hero until the end."
Speaking with Dullindal, he seems to have the right answer for anyone who questions him.
If you listen to him. Even Kira would have thought Dullindal was a good leader if he hadn't attacked Lacus. This is the difference in receiving information.
In fact, Kira had a similar phrase.
If Athrun doesn't want to do something he doesn't, he doesn't have the indecision of a child. He is much more serious and kind than Kira and Shinn. Since in the previous battle there were negative implications, whether you risk death or remain alone, it is something that must be done because it must be done. And this is where Dullindal falls. While it is reasonable, it cannot deny the pain caused, much less simplify it. With his back to the wall, he seems undecided. He does not understand it, and for this reason he cannot justify it. And at that point, whoever doesn't follow him… He's in trouble (LOL)
He changes sides, but Athrun keeps fighting for what he believes in.
I wrote Athrun with this in mind, and if it is not clear, I have not succeeded in my intent. I also apologize to him.
So what kind of character is the Kira from "DESTINY"?
I think Kira is easier to understand if she remembers what it was like at the beginning of
SEED . He was a dull and rather ordinary boy. He's not the type to be arrogant. It all begins when he gets involved in the battle, is surrounded, is forced to face Raw Le Klueze, the end of
SEED is like a terrible souvenir. I think Kira is completely exhausted. She steps away from the battlefield, and lets Lacus heal her wounds like a mother. In the meantime Athrun and Cagalli went around the world trying to stabilize the peace process, but I think Kira's state of mind, her "tiredness" are much more understandable.
We fought a lot, and then the crime happens ... He has finally achieved peace, and as he was relaxing he sees Junius Seven fall down, and the friction between Plant and the Earth Alliance flare up. At that point he does not want to believe that it is his duty to enter the scene, not being a soldier. But then there is the attack on Lacus and the realization that if you don't fight, the people we care about are in danger of dying.
The crisis becomes reality, pushing him to action.
It is so. He has to protect Lacus and his loved ones, so he is forced to enter the scene. To give an everyday example, it is as if you find yourself a thief in the house, it is normal to react. One would wonder what happened to the politics, the police or the army that should avoid these facts. This is the
turning pointof Kira, and I wanted to make sure that if he wasn't involved in the first person, he would never come back to fight. This is the biggest difference with Athrun.
Could you remind us of this difference once again?
It means that Athrun moves and works by opening his horizons, looking at the world. The father was a politician, and he was a soldier. When he knows that Patrick Zala's ideals are still alive in space, he sets out to fight them. Also, since Cagalli is the head of a nation, she feels it is her duty to protect Cagalli by protecting those countries she is trying to defend herself. He does not ask Cagalli to leave his country and go with him. He's like the father of a family who works hard for his family, but before he knows it he's gone. (LOL) Isn't Kira the one who puts family before work? From this point of view Shinn is the most immature, after all he is still a boy. At first he has a reason to fight, but then he finds himself completely shattered. For Dullindal, Shinn is just a pawn to face the Freedom. When the Freedom enters the scene and proves to be the most powerful machine, Dullindal immediately takes his position.
But it cannot be denied that Shinn believes in Dullindal's ideals, and fights for them. From Shinn's point of view. For Shinn Dullindal is a charismatic leader, and if you don't think so you have problems. I created Dullindal with the intention of representing the danger that can arise from kind words.
The nice thing about Dullindal is that he never openly denigrates the failures of his underlings.
When you follow him he treats you kindly, if you question him he does not react violently, because for him people are pawns to be kept at bay. He does not have an awareness of the reality of the person in front of him.
So he assumed that Shinn had his use anyway, while Athrun and Meer were eliminated.
Athrun alerted Kira during the attack on Lacus, and Meer lost his role once the real Lacus returned to the scene. There is the scene where Meer and Lacus appear on TV at the same time, and as Meer plays a script, Lacus gives his open opinion. It was interesting to see Tanaka Rie double up like that.
