Just to say, yeah I didn't read that whole interview beforehand, because I wasn't interested in doing so nor felt the need to respond to it. Second, that interview is a bit hard to understand probably because I'm sure it was translated. Third, nothing about that interview changed my mind after reading it since what I said was correct. Kira and Lacus don't change nor do I believe Shinn or Athrun did either.
"But in my opinion, both Lacus and Kira in destiny are not characters that change, Shinn and Athrun do, Shinn being manipulated into doing what Gil wanted, and Athrun being opposite, and in the whole series they are opposite to each other, Athrun isn't a good mentor at all, he couldn't help Shinn, and Rey and Gil reinforced his actions by praising him and promoting him to be a Faith member too."
How did Athrun change? Seriously. He essentially goes through the same arc he did in the previous show with only slight differences. Put another way, I don't see the difference between Athrun in the beginning of Destiny versus Athrun at the end of Destiny other than realizing he's been had by the main antagonist.
"REEEEEEEEEEE SHINN ISN'T KAMILLE AND PIERCED THE BAD GUY IN THE END!!!"
...dude, that isn't my position. That's somebody else. I've never seen Zeta Gundam yet, nor from what little I know of it do I necessarily think that would have been a good fit to emulate/borrow from simply because Gundam Seed wanted to borrow from the original Gundam. I couldn't care less whether Shinn is or isn't like Kamille.
"Hell, we are clearly doing what she wanted the public to do: "I was hoping that viewers would discuss the various characters with their friends."
You do realize that argument can be (and has been) leveled at any bad/unpopular/divisive work of fiction out there right? Like seriously...The Last Jedi, GoT, Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny, etc. I wouldn't even say its fair to say people want to talk about those things as opposed to ranting and raving about how badly and how ridiculous such things are.
How did Athrun change?
He changed by not being the guy who wanted to do things all by himself, to be patient with it, he learns that sometimes to let it go rather than trying to grasp all things by himself. He tries to guide Shinn to not repeat the same things that he did in the previous war and failed at that, since communication isn't the thing he is good at. He leaves Orb in the beginning and returns in the end different than before, his motivation for being at Orb was totally different from the beginning and the end, at first was to be with Cagalli in a romantic sense, now is to be Cagalli's supporter in a more broad sense, trying to make things better not by having things at his control only but by understanding others too. And this is one of the few things that tied Athrun and Gil, but Gil was way far ahead of Athrun in this sense, with athrun being much more immature.

Yeah, it can, but regardless of that, these writing choices and the whole context of both series and setting makes SEED and Destiny such a potential stories for these. It is a melodrama war series, and the writing of it reflects it in ways that I wouldn't compare directly to other series, even Gundam itself. Even when the premise is similar to zeta for example, I can really like one and not like the other because the writing intent and the format fits so much better to my own tastes.
Someone speaking some common sense.
As I said before, the point wasn't for Shin to be like Kamile, my point was that Amuro in Zeta Gundam...NEVER TOOK THE MAIN CHARACTER ROLE FROM KAMILE! For fucks sake, the third and fourth openings of Seed Destiny reflect the focus on Kira again with Strike Freedom on the title screen, not Destiny Gundam.

He never took because he always was a main character. The difference is that he was doing nothing, but even in the first part we see he and Lacus a lot, even when the focus was on Shinn and Athrun. The difference now is more of the sides having more screentime: At first was Minerva with its introduction, then it was the confrontation of both sides and the conclusion.

Not even Destiny fault actually, and it wasn't even the first time they did this: In SEED, Andrew was supposed to die, but Fukuda brought him back because he was too cool, and before the airing of Destiny began, back in last decade, there was the Gundam SEED: Special Edition, where the scene of Mu's death was changed and they removed his helmet from the destruction. And it was exhibited before the airing of Destiny.
And even right now they keep changing stuff, after the troubled production of Destiny, they did the improved OVA Final Episode plus, then they did Destiny: Special Edition and one decade later, they changed it more with the HD Remaster.
Just by using Mwu alone I can say that what you probably watched was the TV Version. Or did you watch the later versions?
So is Seed even worth watching if the Destiny half is shit? I've always like the mech designs but stayed away because of what I heard of Destiny.
Yes, I recommend SEED if you are a woman or it is your first Gundam series.
It is a strange series overall, for example you have the intent of making a gundam series for the 21th Century in the sense that all technologies used in the UC are updated and makes more sense, all the worldbuilding is there and it is plentiful in material to make such a lived world if you are interested in the further works of it.
But at the same time, the writing of it is melodramatic soap opera in its own design, so you have the technologic idea versus the drama idea (for example in the scene I was discussing in the previous posts, Character X dies protecting the ship and it is retconned later. But actually they all would die regardless because it was fired by an Anti-fortress, and a single mobile suit wouldn't matter at all. But the series puts drama over consistency all the time. So it may bother you a lot because there are multiple events of this happening.
SEED and Destiny are such strange series, but if you are going to watch, watch subbed (Most of the budget at the time went into hiring the voice actors, it is an early 00's digital series where they did not have the full grasp of it, so it may look wonky) Also the character design is rather divisive since most character looks the same of the main cast with the hair differentiating (Hirai in later years does this kinda like Yu-Gi-Oh, where you can clearly see who is a Main cast and who isn't)
And yeah, SEED have the most useless character in all gundam, so it is pretty important for us to remember Kuzzey
