So just out of curiosity, does anyone here happen to have information on the (clearly cheap) U.S. distribution of Hyper Police, an obscure series from the '90s that Pierrot adapted in '97? Some unicorn in my home state had the DVDs they sold to a local thrift store I ended up picking up, but looking into it has me running into brick walls. There's like nothing about this series, closest I can get is that back in 2002, Image Entertainment (now RLJ Entertainment) got the license from this M3 Entertainment Corporation for the dub and sub distribution rights, and released them onto six cheap DVDs presumably to no fanfare. These DVDs give me "catalogue/website purchase only" vibes due to how cheap they look on top of lack of volume numbers. The only known voice-actor is Dorothy Elias-Fahn, but it wasn't through the credits themselves, of which there are no English credits given.

Tokyopop released the manga back in 2005 to 2007, some years after the anime's U.S. release, but they weren't behind the anime. Spain was apparently the only other Western country to have known of the series and might have a small following.

There is a defunct fan-site, but even that has scarce information.

This is just to satiate a curiosity of mine and a friend's, but I can at least safely say that Hyper Police may be the most obscure title I have on my shelf to date.

About the only Gundam-esque aspect of IBO that I can remember is the ongoing conflict between Mars and Earth, sort of reminiscent of the A.O.Z sequel set in the same viscinity, but that gets chucked out of the window long before the start of the second season. I wanted to at least give it a chance and see if it could redeem itself but the longer it went on, the worse it got.
Ngl, as someone who isn't big into the UC timeline or really Gundam at all since I drop most of the shit I pick up, IBO would have been my favorite if either S1 was a bit stronger and stood on it's own or S2's second half wasn't a fucking coat hanger abortion that didn't deliver at all on any of the buildup that came before. Sucks because I absolutely love the mech design and a lot of the characters but they all get done dirty and I think the show was ultimately ruined by our Char Clone also loving the mech designs but a little bit too much, he literally ruined everything over wanting to ride in a cool robot.

As someone who read the manga for this just months ago, I’m actually interested to watch this. It’s no Komi Can’t Communicate, but this one was pretty sweet to read.

Plus, I will laugh out loud if they ever tried to animate these scenes from the manga:

They already showed the scene of one of the schoolgirls cutting their toenails while no one else was in school in the classroom, until Akebi shows up. I’m optimistic in thinking the anime adaptation will be much better, if not as good, as the manga.

Tried to watch Witch Hunter Robin and I forgot how convoluted and mostly forgettable it was, at least the music and character designs were cool.

I've been watching Baki lately. Ludicrous, unapologetically homoerotic and quite grotesque, both in terms of gore and character design.

All the main characters are hulking steroid monstrosities who pull hideously unsettling facial expressions that would make even Bubba run from the showers with his arse cheeks clenched.
Yujiro confirmed for Father of the Year, every year.
Say what you will about Itagaki's art but the guy can create some absolute chads in his work (See also: Garouden). Right up there with likes of Tetsuo Hara, Ryoichi Ikegami, and Tetsuya Saruwatari

I just watched the new Attack on Titan episode;
mini rant, but why is Eren never
competent in battle? If it's not fodder Titans then he's absolutely helpless without backup.

The only thing more annoying than a pacifistic protagonist is a weak one. That'd be fine if they didn't present him as a badass. Imagine if Goku got his ass totally whooped by every single enemy he fought, but the show still treated him like he's hot shit.

That's how I feel about most anime, I think it's because much of it simply isn't that good. I just watched a bunch of anime a couple months ago, and I wouldn't be able to name even half of them.

The first season of One Piece definitely holds up, I thought I might just be nostalgia baiting myself but it's legitimately good.

But did I just blank out on the warship island arc or did it get skipped in the dub or something? Cause I don't remember any of this I could of swore after Logue town they went straight to princess Vivi.

It's a filler arc. Was skipped by 4KIDS so they could get through the series faster, and it was dubbed by FUNimation, but it's perfectly skippable.

Makes sense I guess, I guess even 4Kids looked at this and decided Luffy helping some little girl escape some Baron Harkkonen looking mitherfucker and was kind of dumb. It also lets me know which dub Hulu has cause five minutes of the dub and I switched to the sub.

It's either that, or it was so they could get to Vivi faster. That's why they skipped Little Garden, so they could quickly get to Drum Island despite being a canon arc.

Now, I'm not a fan of CLAMP series, including xxxHOLIC but I am interested in the recently announced live action film, mostly because it's directed by Mika Nanigawa.

Nanigawa, who is also a professional photographer, her color-suffused visuals first came to my attention with her 2012 film Helter Skelter, based on Kyoko Okazaki's manga about a popular entertainment industry star with a dark secret. Her mental and physical health starts breaking down, in part due to the pressure, the need to stay Number 1 and not end up a has-been, but also very much due to the dangerous extensive full-body cosmetic surgery she underwent in an illegal clinic, which requires heavy medication and frequent touch-up surgery to maintain.

She also directed the film Diner. An adaption of a crime novel by Yumeaki Hirayama (followed up with a manga series) about a woman whose response to the wrong posting on a job board ends up with her kidnapped and pressed into service at the titular eatery, a garish, exclusive establishment that only caters to professional killers. Overseeing this is her tyrant of a new boss, former hitman turned master chef Bombero who makes no bones about what will happen to her if she steps out of line. Sadly not available in the US yet. Though it might end up dumped on streaming services with little fanfare sometime this year, perhaps, maybe, from what I've heard.

Turns out vid related is getting an actual anime adaption. The author writes some comfy romances, though my personal favorite is still Fujiyama-san this one is nice too.

To say nothing of how they replaced Laboon with a goddamned iceburg, which would've cause serious issues if 4Kids actually held onto the series long enough to get to Brook (which, thankfully, they didn't).

That was stupidly silly and Toei let them do it, but I'm kinda willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they might've not known that Oda never forgets. I don't think anyone at that time (2005) expected Laboon to have actually been super-duper important to a Straw Hat.

Today officially marks five years since Miss Koyabashi‘s Dragon Maid would be introduced to us for the first time. Let us all be thankful that Kyoto Animation created an adorable and lovely anime that all kids and adults can enjoy.

New Nagatoro drama has dropped.

Apparently the English VA for her is black,,which has of course got Twitter screaming about how the character is black/getting made at people making the “black Nagatoro” jokes.

That said, apparently the English dub is apparently pretty good.
Considering the state of Western anime localization I wouldn't put it past them to be stupid enough to think Nagatoro's black when it's clearly obvious that she's tanned.
