What about Victor Salva?

And what about John Lasseter?
You can still make films on your own, of course, and that's how a lot of these guys are still persevering. Woody Allen may keep making films but he can barely find a distributor.

Lasseter was just a sexual harasser, but even though he got a job somewhere else, I haven't heard anything from him since.

So in kind of related news, a few days ago the author of "Oshiete Galko" was declared missing by his family, though he finally showed up again. But then its revealed that apparently the reason he's missing was because he's arrested for importing CP stuffs from Germany. Its still a developing story
According to the authorities, Suzuki stated upon his arrest that he "desperately wanted to acquire nude photos of foreign children that cannot be acquired in Japan."

What a way to learn that the charges for importing illegal material are much, much stricter than those for possessing child porn in Japan.

Wasn't the issue with the Rorouni Kenshin author was that he bought it legally but continued to possess it after laws were changed?
I've read that he was caught because he asked online how to get rid of it, but I don't know if that's true or just a cope.

What I still can't determine is if the CP was imported because the photos are legal there and the artist just traveled to buy it, or that he found some sort of CP peddler in Germany and flew out to make a purchase.

This CP case is strange because the images are physical photos in what I assume are a binder full of plastic pages with pockets to hold the photos in. Most cases like this are some degenerate downloading from an FBI Tor honeypot site.

Did he download then print the photos? If so why?

Or did he buy the book with the photos already in it?

I just really want to know why he had to fly out to Germany.

Apparently that's one of the reason, pure technicality. But people also say the other reason was because he snitched on his sellers or something like that, or the investigation was aiming for sellers/maker not just owner like him. I don't know, its still scummy nevertheless

Gundam understanders have logged on.

The worst of Ani-twitter has gone from "Char's Counterattack is bad and wrong because my husbando Aznable wouldn't commit genocide" to "CCA is great because Char commits genocide but for proper, woke reasons."

My reaction to this long, long thread

Pretty convenient how I managed to get a DDOS update when I was trying to talk about the Galko-chan situation with Kenya Suzuki. But let me reiterate before the Internet times my connection out:

I remember reading Rurouni Kenshin before I found out about Watsuki admitting that he harbored CP.

I remember watching Toriko after I found out that Shimabokuro was caught with hyper factionalized drawings of naked children in his apartment.

Difference was they paid for their acts towards society and both of their respective Shounen works left me entertained over the years. The same thing could be applied with Galko-chan as well, since the mantra still stands: Separate the art from the artist.

We live in a world where there’s more sex trafficking and child abuse scandals that go unnoticed mainly due to this moral grand standing and disingenuous hypocrisy where we are trying to rationalize reasons as to why a mangaka artist from Japan had to hilariously go to a different country to get old erotica that may have been mixed with photographs of naked children from the 80’s, and it’s causing more people online (because they’ll never say this out in public due to social stigmas out in full force) to dictate how anime should be censored and banned pure to protect the children.

Meanwhile, the article being linked from the news surrounding Suzuki’s Curb Your Enthusiasm-like predicament had a comments section filled with stuff like this:

B167E071-1642-4F40-92A0-9866DF046FA9.jpeg 370D8664-28FE-4379-8C16-B9E0EE5ED263.jpeg

These people arguing for the “red flags were there from the beginning” attitude would be the same ones to like anime where the mangaka artists may/may not have old school drawings of teenage kids doing unadulterated stuff that would send social media users into a state of rage, but they’ll never talk about stuff like that.

Either way, I don’t want to turn this into a Culture War post. People are still allowed to like Galko-chan while hope that Kenya Suzuki gets the rehabilitation and help that he needs.

It’s not as mutually exclusive as these people online want you to think.

God, I hope he gets a harsher punishment than Nobuhiro Watsuki the Kenshin author, or the author of Toriko.
Wait, I didn't know that the guy who did Toriko got involved in shit. Last I heard of him, he did this manga for Shonen Jump, Build King. Not that anyone read it, of course.

A Japanese news outlet posted a censored spread of the imported magazines they seized from Suzuki's home:
The Japanese greatly prefer having printed copies over digital, so it makes more sense for him to do something like this vs torrenting CP.

A friend of my Mom's at her office has a kid who's around 15 and is "into those Japanese books right now" and then knowing I have a collection of them myself asked me to recommend her friend some series to get her son for Christmas. What do you guys think? I tried to go for stuff I actually read and liked. Here as follows:
Blame!
Demon Slayer
Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin
My Hero Academia
One Punch Man
Mob Psycho 100
Tokyo Ghoul
One Piece
Psycho Pass
Chainsaw Man
Black Lagoon
Fullmetal Alchemist
Hunter X Hunter
No Guns Life
DeathNote
Jujustu Kaisen
Natsume's Book Of Friends
Vinland Saga
Rurouni Kenshin
Vagabond
Akira
Ranma 1/2
Spice and Wolf

I just gave her a list of these and told her that some sites allow you to read them for free if she wants to look thru them first for anything she wouldn't like her son to have.

The incident with Toriko's author happened years ago, long before even Toriko. The manga he was drawing at the time was cancelled and was sentenced to 2 years for paying a 16 year old to have sex. Although ultimately he served no time in prison.

If you really want to go down a rabbit hole, there's rumors that One Piece's Oda helped him out during the incident as they are good friends. It's likely how Toriko got a crossover with One Piece for no good reason. Want to keep digging? Oda was an assistant to Ruroni Kenshin's author. You can even see his work in background characters who look like early OP characters in Kenshin. Did Oda have a hand in getting Kenshin's crimes basically overlooked by Shueisha?

IIRC, the Toriko one wasn't at fault. The prostitute he got lied about her age & that was proven in court.

Pretty good list! Covers all the bases pretty well. Unless the friend of your mom gives you a list of what type of manga the son is into it is hard to make a better list really.

What kind of 15 year old boy are we talking about, because I find that there's two main types when they first start watching anime, the ones that find the edgiest shit they can get there hands, and the ones who pretty much stick to battle shonen.
Aside from that maybe avoiding romcoms and SOL heavy shows since I cant think of too many boys who's first handful of shows included either in those genres

Well these aren't porn mags but still...I'm glad this shit isn't legal anymore. These nude mags where probably first invented in the 70s because the culture in europe was weird like that back then. And as we now learned there is still a niche market for them and sick fucks will even travel to different countries just to get them.
