Am I the only one who mistook Saurva for a guy in the great jahy will not be defeated? I can't tell if the boyish look is intentional or if its just me being a degenerate

I thought that was a dude all the way up until the bath episode

I probably would have been confused by Saurva if I hadn't played Persona 4 since that game featured Naoto Shirogane, a girl wearing a male-type school uniform, and I recognized the same general androgynous girl archetype with Saurva, whose regular clothes kind of resemble a boys' school uniform. (Going back further in time, Ryuunosuke from Urusei Yatsura is somewhat the same archetype but in that case her father was deliberately trying to pass her off as a boy because [reasons].)

In the Dark Realm, all of the major demons seem to be female, at least that we've seen in the manga so far. (There's really only one important character from the manga who has yet to be properly introduced in the anime but she can be heard briefly in episode 14.)

Kaginado is actually really good, it doesn't fall in the same trap that Isekai Quartet fell into, which was trying to give every franchise the same screentime and focusing on the protagonists (who are usually the least interesting characters). It's pretty fun and wholesome seeing the different characters interact:

nigga, is that little buster?

Do Paprika next, it's like a spiritual successor since it's also by Satoshi Kon. Paranoia Agent, too.
watched Paranoia Agent many years ago. had a feeling it was made by the same guy. will watch Paprika

I just still don't get why it exists, though. It took until episode five to get a snort out of me, everything else feels forced/pandering and the music is distracting to me (not helped I'm not all that familiar with anything that's not AIR, Kanon and CLANNAD). I just can't hear the iconic emotional tracks working out in a parody setting at all.

It's nice seeing her and Sean Chiplock doing so well in their careers after so many people shit on them for years online.
I think the first time I actually heard of her was when she voiced Twilight Sparkle in Max G’s Pony.mov series. I remember seeing her name in the credits and thinking “…oh, well that’s a convenient name.”

I'm nearly finished watching Overlord, I thought it was pretty good so far but I don't get why isekai's have a tendency to not flesh out the "transported to another world" shtick

Is that elaborated on in the light novel or is it more there as a plot device that is largely irrelevant throughout the story?

And I don't care what anyone says Entoma is waifu material

As to you mean 'why' he was transported? IE: What happened?

Its not fully explained, but it is revealed that players have been transported more than once throughout the history of the 'New World' from this specific MMO. It is said that the 'Dragon Emperor' summoned players to the New World 600 years ago for some reason (possibly to consolidate his power) and either got wiped by them or is in hiding and that the summoning is still happening for unknown reasons or he's doing it. Ains does not really care, only in the respect that if there might be other players around to challenge him, and apparently there are not currently.

Also, you have to remember, a lot of the mechanisms are largely irrelevant sometimes or are basically there to act as a conclusion to stories and present a natural end-point to them (if they aren't pure resurrection stories). For some Isekais, it is such a huge plot point that it is basically drip fed because its discovery basically means the end of the series. Its in place for when the story it is seeking to tell is largely over and its the last 'big thing' to deal with.

In Overlord, the protagonist shows basically little to no interest at going home. Overlord is from the protagonist's perspective, especially in the Light Novels. Since he generally does not give a shit, it isn't really explored nor is any importance placed on it. He's not really interested in going back and is only interested in it in an academic sense, IE: How can it help him dominate in the world he's found himself in.

Trailer for Bisque Doll came out, ngl it looks pretty nice so far. Its a pretty cute romcom between a dollmaker and a cosplaying gyaru, I'd recommend it.

That being said, I wonder how much of a reaction there's going to be over the main character tanning for a cosplay and only cosplaying the characters she can physically emulate.

I gotta say I really love the gyaru trend that's been going on over the past few years. Galko-chan was a riot and I picked up Bisque Doll not long after finishing Gal Gohan; both are adorable romcoms with similar circumstances as to how the characters relate and connect. Can't say I'm too happy about the latter (mostly) dropping the cooking aspect and turning into a typical harem halfway, though. Would have liked to see more culinary school antics after Miku graduated and possibly open up her own restaurant with Yabecchi's help, but the married- and babies-ever-after ending was still satisfying.

FMA author Hiromu Arakawa is starting a new battle shonen next month

Series is called "yomi no tsugai" and looking for brief plot descriptions it seems to be about a boy and his imprisoned sister trying to find out a secret of a mysterious village.

I've seen a few people wonder if this will be another Kshimoto/samurai 8 case where "author who had a hugely popular series comes back and falls on their face" although I don't think it'll be as bad since I remember Silver spoon being fairly popular albeit not as big as FMA and iirc she has a series that's a comedic autobiography about her life growing up on a farm in Hokkaido which somehow sold over 3 million copies recently.

What's interesting is that there really is no reason for him to go back. According to the lore, Ainz world is a place that makes blade runner look like a kiddie park. His parents are dead too, so he's got nothing to return to.
