Sword Art Online's coming to Adult Swim! Maybe now I can get around to actually watching it!

I decided to watch the 4Kids version of Yu-Gi-Oh season 4 for shits and giggles. I'm watching the fourth episode now, and from what I know about the series (thanks to the manga and Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged), I can tell that this is going to be a stupid season. It literally comes out of nowhere. They should be starting season 5 right about now, but instead, they made a filler season. Season 5 starts right after Season 3 (sans the virtual world filler) in the manga. What's really stupid about this season is that the events of the series started up when Yami Yugi held up the God Cards in front of the stone tablet, which then caused a bunch of monsters to appear all over the city (it's explained that a rift has been caused between the real world and the world of duel monsters that's making this happen). It seems like this could've been easily avoided by simply NOT holding the cards in front of the tablet, but I haven't seen enough of the season to know for sure.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that in the fourth episode, Joey punches Tristan over the head. It's not censored.
Speaking of Yu-Gi-Oh, the Japanese intros are the best:
Season 1:

Season 2:

Season 3:

Season 4:

Season 5:

I also really loved season 0. I liked how it wasn't all about card games, and just about games in general. It made a lot more sense.

Season Zero is awesome! At first I was a little hesitant to watch it due to its animation style (my first contact with Yu-Gi-Oh was through the 4kids dub), but that was immediately left behind after the first episode. :)

Speaking of lulzy dubs, has anybody here ever seen the English dub of Gakkou no Kaidan (School Ghost Stories)? It's just like an abridged anime parody!

Here are some examples:

Chris and Jissouseki.

I don’t know why it took me so long to think of this. Jissouseki is a perverse parody of an anime character named Suiseiseki, from Rozen Maiden. Long history short this was born after some Japanese guy posted pictures of a badly made doll of this character. It was so ugly and retarded looking, it became a hit and the Jissouseki mythos was born. Over the years the fans created art and fanfics depicting this creature’s anatomy, breading habits, behavior everything. Gore, scat, all the good stuff.

Why is this relevant to Chris? Because Chris and the jissouseki are so much ALIKE it’s scary.

Similarities:

1 Heterochromia. :tomgirl: Like the original character all jissouseki have this condition, one eye green and the other red.

2 Hygiene: This dirty critter turns his environment into squalor, jissouseki too. They are famous for shitting themselves and living with shit stained panties :briefs: . Have poor dental health and nasty hair sometimes full of lice.

3 Eating habits: Like Chris they enjoy eating candy and are voracious. Although jissou eat anything (even their own shit and offspring), giving the chance to eat McD every day they would not stop until they become little landwales.

4 Egotism: Although they’re ugly, they think they are cute pets and every human would want them.

5 Lack of empathy: Jissouseki have a great disregard for the pain and suffering of their peers. It’s rare to find a compassioned and caring jissouseki.

6 Entitlement: Once a jissoseki enters the home of a human fool enough to feel compassion for it, the critter starts demanding and bossing around as if it owns the place.

7 Naiveté: jissouseki are portrayed as being very easy to troll. A human can make them do the craziest things just for the promise of pet hood, like tearing their own hair killing each other, etc.

8 The Home Quest: analogous to the “Love Quest” Jissouseki are always pestering humans into take them as pets. In the delusional pretense that their lives will become idyllic once they get a master, who, is going to be on hands and knees serving to their needs. They think they will be pampered and loved doing nothing in exchange other than being the precious and sweet little darlings they are.

9 Weak and stupid: they threat with violence but are unable to deliver. They are fool cowards like CWC.

10 INTERNET: Jissouseki is an internet phenomenon, created by the minds of anonymous. Chris would exist with or without interntet, but we cannot denied that his current form and many of this misadventures where influenced by the web.

Diffences: Jissou are all females, except for the occasional phallic jissou(which sports a large un bend penis) and they do get laid once in a while(like it or not). They do reproduce.

You mean the jissouseki or the comparison?

Jissou is a interesting phenomena quite similar to CWC, a lot of people interpreted and modified this meme like a collective history. If the comparison, well I guess I like a little of violence and guro whit my fries.

Unpopular opinion time

I really dislike Attack on Titan ;;~;

I tried watching the first episode and I can't. I just can't, man. The show just comes across as vore fetishist's dream.

I'm watching the first episode of Squid Girl.

I was thinking about giving Slayers a try. So I looked up how much I'd be reading/watching.

Original run 1989 – 2000
Volumes 15

Yeah, no. Maybe in another life.

Yeah, no. Maybe in another life.

There are five seasons, with the last two seasons being produced in the mid to late 2000's. It's not like Naruto or Bleach where it's over 200 episodes or something. There's a movie, a handful of OVAs, a few video games and only 8 of the novels were ever released stateside and neither they or the manga are in print over here anymore. I was lucky enough to get to most of the merchandise before Tokyopop stopped producing it.

If you want to get into it I'm pretty sure Funimation has the anime subs for free on its youtube channel. The anime is by far the best place to start and the second season is nothing short of fantastic. The first and second seasons follow the original 8 novels but it keeps things a fair more light-hearted. Third season is entirely filler but the story is good in its own right. If you like those you'll like the two new seasons.

The manga you can pass on. It's short and underwhelming compared to the anime and the artist got REALLY lazy as time went on. The manga focusing on Lina and Naga though are really funny, give those a try if you like the OVAs. The novels are fantastic naturally with Tokyopop doing a hilarious job with the localization but I don't know where you could find them outside getting lucky at second-hand bookshops or ordering online. There are some fan translations but with my experience they're on the Engrishy side and not that fun to read.

I could go on. I...really like Slayers. I've been a dedicated fan since I was 11.

...Or if you want something short but really fun go watch the dub of Baccano! plus the three episode OVA. Seriously. Go watch it. It's funny, it's violent, the characters are spectacular and the animation was done by one of the finest animation studios out there. For a Japanese show basing its environment in 1930's America they did better with the environment than most mindless Hollywood productions do. Not to mention Funimation has a ton of fun with the slang of the time. Also there's no obnoxious chibi moments or moe stereotypes in sight.

Everyone, go watch it. It's only 16 episodes if you count the OVAs. The fact it did so poorly in Japan is a crime.

Well, doesn't sound that bad when you put it that way. I hardly knew anything about it until my brother thought they were showing it on Adult Swim, went off on a tangent, and I told him I'd check it out to shut him up and because stuff he freaks over tends to be pretty good (JJBA, Panty and Stocking, etc.).

Baccano was another one he loved and forced me to watch. I liked what I saw, like, a lot, but we lost the external drive it was on, and when I say, "I'll get back on it," that usually means, "haha, guess that's the end of that, lol." Maybe I'll get back around to it.

Haha, jk, guess that's the end of that, lol.

Your loss.
Hey, I'm not saying I'm not gonna watch it, just that it's gonna take a while. Like, a few days. Or a week... Maybe years...

Oh God, I'm an awful person and the last time I saw it was in like, 2010 or however long ago it was when I first heard of it, I'm too lazy to have fun, I only show initiative when I'm working.

But I can probably get around to Slayers after I get advised for next semester's courses tomorrow.

Alright, alright, I'm downloading it. Sheesh.

Oooh, never mind, they got the whole thing on Hulu. This'll be just like the time I watched ten episodes of Gurren Lagann and stopped because my browser closed myself and I didn't feel like picking it up again!

Er... I mean, I'll change for the better this time. Or whatever.
