Sorry, I didn't literally mean black people. Tbh, black men tend to really like Shonen and action shit which has a fair amount of black characters so I don't see them bitching about it online all that much unless they have a BLM and pronoun bio on twitter and don't even watch anime. I've met a lot of black weebs irl who are pretty cool too so my racism can only be so powerful.

Can confirm, niggas love Dragonball and MHA. If I see someone wearing anime shit in public, nine times out of ten it’s a black guy repping one of the big Shonen anime.
 
Does anyone knows if the live action Ajin movie is good? I want to see more of this dude.

Hey, any of you people read Five Star Stories?
I just wanted to know where a specific character appears, so I can read those bits and skip the rest, as art style makes me dizzy for whatever reason (had the same problem with Aeon Flux).

I read just the first 2 volumes so long ago that I should read again. So no clue.

Just finished Ajin, man that was great.

It's even worse when you compare it to LWA, which it clearly feels like they are being 'inspired' by. If there's one thing that show had in spades was its fun fluid animation. That's not even considering the fun cast that helped carry it during its weaker story moments.

The whole situation going on in the former felt exhausting just reading about it. Yokoi is an absolute saint for being able to handle Saitou's constant meltdowns and her hurting people physically or verbally. At the same time, you can totally understand why she feels the way she does and why she does certain things due to her upbringing.

The latter actually made me shed a tear. Sazanka isn't even really that badly effected by her Asperger's, she just has low self esteem due to the few quirks she has. It's a shame that you can only find it on a hentai site, it definitely needs more exposure.

It isn't the exact same since none of the characters are explicitly autistic, but I think Mousou Telepathy may count as something similar because it does still have some elements of the whole "people with self-expression issues dealing with socialization and interaction". But I mean, that's my thoughts on it.
 
Can anyone recommend something that fits the following very specific niche?
Very powerful being is stuck with a less powerful one, hijinks ensue. (Bonus points if the powerful being is literally trapped in like, a prison or something)
E.g. Inuyasha with the necklace.
(Technically even Billy and Mandy counts, but I always found that show off-putting)

Same-ish, Back when it came out it seemed like a dumber, uglier, and less polished overall take on the Genndy Tartakovsky* house style. But in retrospect and compared to what came later in western toons, it's its' own thing, and has enough charm to justify it's existence.
*Supervising producer on Billy & Mandy, I learn while googling the spelling of his name

I just finished reading Dorohedoro and the last nearly 70 chapters were just a huge slog, it was an incredible disappointment considering that I liked it so much, it could have became an absolute favorite if it stayed as good as it was. Has this happened to anyone else where you really fucking loved a manga but this after a certain point, it kind of ruined itself for you? Another example I can think of for me is Kengen Ashura, I absolutely fucking loved that manga until about the last 1/5th where all the worst people who I didn't give a single shit about made their way through the tournament and the subplots came to a head and all ended up being terrible. It just makes me fucking depressed when something shows potential to be fucking amazing but falls flat on it's face towards the end or there's a piece of something that's really fucking good but it's marred by so many other issues when it was totally possible for the entire package to be great but it just wasn't.

Dumb but serious question.

Is dubbing anime (as opposed to subbing it) actually profitable? I realize that anime is more mainstream now than it was in the days of downloading fansubs over dial-up, but it is still quite a niche industry, yes?

Or, god forbid, they're capable of enjoying media without needing the characters to be a cartoon version of them.
 
I've seen a bunch of attempts at translating this, and I'm not sure I found any that are completely good, but I think this might be the best choice for the lot in English [there was a French one that was closer than the other English ones, so take it as you will]:
Ao Ashi, a realistic-ish sports series, focused on J-Youth clubs, starring your typical teenage striker who wants to be the best in the world.

Ashito Aoi, a kid from the small town of Ehime, is noticed by Tetsuya Fukuda, coach for the Youth team of Tokyo City Esperion and former Ehime resident. After taking note of his potential and drive, he makes Ashito an offer: to go to Tokyo take the selection test and join the club so he can, some day, become good enough to compete in more than just high school sports but rather, actually become a professional player.

Of course, things aren't so easy, as Ashito's current skill level is quite below his peers and he has to learn the very basics first, as well as adjust to the needs and demands of such a high level sport as the Japanese Youth Football.
I'm gonna call it 'realistic-ish' because this series isn't like Kuroko, Inazuma 11, or even the slightly more 'out there' elements from Captain Tsubasa where Hyuuga had his special kick taught to him by a drunk guy. The players are normal people doing normal things and most of the games shown in the mangá so far are the kind that anyone could play in real life, given the right circumstances.

It's certainly more believable, at least, than aliens showing up to destroy high schools by kicking balls really really hard.

Dorohedoro was great. You have no idea what the fuck you are talking about, some years ago Q Hayashida said it was going to end in the next volume and if she did, it would be fucking terrible, because lots of things that she worked on before weren't very developed to end so soon. Good thing that she changed her mind and added I guess 3 or 4 volumes more than she intended.

And it was great, I prefer to be kinda sloggish to cut early (not that I think Dorohedoro was sloggish, it was actually quite well ended, I just remember only other manga that gives time to breath in the end without ending it so soon)
