Quess's personality is probably a criticism of Miyazaki movies, but this is still the guy who had to sign off on Puru in ZZ and all those shots of naked Puru Two. I've also heard Beltorchika's Children has Quess piloting the Alpha Azieru naked.

I don't doubt he would have an aneurysm if he were to watch Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, which was peak Tomino energy (due of nearly all characters suffering a terrible fate), with Uso being the object of desire from the mature women. But again, being upset that Japanese mangas & anime primarily meant for Japanese teenagers have fictional cartoon characters of similar age is pretty silly and very american-like too.

God damn it, it's one of the anime opening that brings a tear to my eye. Angel Beats was one of the Key anime that probably was better for only having a single season. Nowadays Key is pretty mediocre which is a shame.

Tomino said that you need to think with your dick a bit when writing characters. Char’s entire thing with Quess is abusive, he basically leads her on while being a sad sack about Lalah.

Quess is designed around someone who’d attract a young man despite how retarded she is and be easily be manipulated and groomed by an older man.

I can confirm it is pretty wholesome in its message as of the first 24 chapters (I was getting into it but I got distracted and haven't returned to it). But of course, it needs some comedic moments so there's shenanigans involving the husband's coworker trying to ask him out but she's a bit of a ditz and has a friend trying to help the two hook up, and there's drama, too, so the wife's mother is an abusive drunk and it's a bit terrifying. I'm going to assume she gets worse as the manga goes on.

I only started checking it out because Twitter was having a shitfit over it and a friend was weirded out by the premise, so I had to relay things to him as I was reading and the two of us warmed up to it. I think the opening premise is a shit-test if you ask me. It's also kinda tongue-in-cheek in its presentation right out of the gate 'cause it's aware it's a weird concept, especially since the husband is still madly in love with his wife and he and their daughter have discussed that they'd be okay with him waiting for the girl to turn 18 so they could become a family again. Naturally, the wife is weirded out by it and calls them out on it.

Also there's a short chapter at the end of every volume that're literal flashbacks to when the two began dating, and they're such fucking dorks. It's a pretty brilliant thing to include.

My suggestion is you give it a chance. If it doesn't work for you within that first volume, that's fine, just know that Twitter and other likeminded ilk are going to jump to conclusions like they always do.
