There is no sign at all that Demon Slayer has lost its appeal with its fans, and it didn't completely stumble into its ending like a blind drunk like Bleach or Attack on Titan did. Trying to pretend otherwise is just cope. It had a strong story and it had a strong ending that neatly wrapped everything up.

My biggest problem with Demon Slayer is that it’s VERY obvious the story was meant to have another 2-3 arcs in the middle. Even though plenty of time is implied to pass in-universe, narratively we jump from random jobbers to the boss’s inner circle in the span of like… 3 fights. I understand the manga’s runtime was cut short due to the author’s family/medical issues, and at the end of the day preemptively cutting some arcs out of the middle is preferable to rushing the ending (which I thought was very well-done overall). However the progression in the middle felt very rushed and jarring to me.

I'll defend Bleach's ending. The ending was rushed and Tite Kubo didn't exactly get to tell the story he wanted to tell. The light novel CFYOW was left to tie together a lot of loose ends. When you take that into account, you CAN see the story Kubo was ultimately trying to tell and there were enough pieces in TYBW alluding to events of CFYOW that do make me believe the stuff in the light novel wasn't completely pulled out of its ass. When you put all that on paper, you have a relatively decent story in theory. It's disassembled and you have to squint really hard to see it, but there is a good story there and the anime has made lots of good changes integrating parts of ideas from CFYOW.

I'm sorry, but having read Bleach's ending while it was coming out all those years ago, I just couldn't disagree more. I went from actually being fully invested in the arc when it began, to not giving a shit anymore by the time it ended. The only reason I even read all the way to the end is because of sunk cost fallacy.

I felt the same honestly. But I did rewatch it and eventually re-read it, and then CFYOW came out, and heard it provided a lot of context, and I really liked it. By the end, I really thought what Kubo was going for with the Soul King was pretty cool. I think on paper, the idea was pretty good but he just never got the chance to bring it all together. Then the anniversary chapter came out, and that was honestly very good. Some of Kubo's best work. Now that the anime is out, he started fixing a lot of those issues. Hopefully the trend continues.

I guess the best way to put it, is the post-Bleach content did a lot to try to salvage the story. Enough of it worked to get me interested in it again. I think it really does deserve a second chance.

AOT has no such defense. That ending was mostly planned out from the beginning. Hell, neither does Naruto. I am firm believer that the idea Kubo's health was the main reason Bleach was forced to end so quickly is a lie or a secondary reason at best. Kubo was claiming to have another decade of story left in him at the start of TYBW and I have a feeling that freaked out folks at who wanted the Big 3 era to end for whatever various reasons. Sure, his health probably was a factor but not the main one. I also find it very suspect we didn't get an explanation on the rushed ending until around the time the TYBW anime was announced.

It's not really a lie or secondary reason, certain Jump editors are practically known to be retards. Retards, who are retarded enough to make a man practically detest his own work, which is what happened to Kubo.

I read a bunch of ∀ Gundam manga lately. The main manga is a condensed version of the anime, so while it does skip some stuff, it's good to read if you don't have time or patience for the full anime. The art style has a surreal, tranquil feeling with nice detail; it's reminiscent of David Wiesner's work.

Also, the ∀ Gundam: Wind of the Moon manga is filled with tons of cool conceptual scraps. It's a prequel detailing Loran's life before he came to earth. It gets into all sorts of cool stuff like gravity generation and mecha racing. I highly recommend reading it because there is some really cool stuff in this manga that I don't want to spoil!

Finally, there's apparently a Tomica Hero manga. Weird, but I hope it gets translated some day.

Speaking of new jump series anyone else know what the fuck is going on with Kagurabachi?
TLDR for those not in the loop, new series called Kagurabachi just released, only has 3 chapters, and is already the 3rd most popular series on MangaPlus (700k which is impressive since MP resets its views every 4-5 weeks).
So far its just a generic magic sword/revenge story with maybe 1 or 2 redeeming aspects, but somehow its being treated like the old Morbius movie and getting memed to hell and back as "the manga of all time" and spreading like wildfire.

I actually have a bet with someone if this will actually translate into success or not. I'm airing on the side of maybe to none at all (my actual bet is on it getting moved out of the magazine and is turned into a a web manga on Jump+) because I remember how many western fans loved (or claimed to) manga like Zombie Powder or Psyren but said love never brought any revival or adaptation. But I've heard rumors that the main force behind recent stuff like the Tomo anime and the future solo leveling one is western fans so who knows.

It does show, and the drawing is honestly pretty scribly and hard to follow for the most part. But I do think it resolved it decently well (except for Zenitsu's arc which is where "I'm missing an arc here" shows the hardest) and seeing how most manga shit the bed at the end, Demon Slayer delivered something satisfying enough. The "fast forward everyone reincarnates" ending was a bit too much for me though even though I'm usually a sucker for any sort of epilogue. Though a part of me is still amazed at how Demon Slayer took off so hard.

I think the fundamental problem with Bleach is that Kubo loves designing 40 new characters every arc and then shitting them into the plot, give them zero development, and then they die or whatever randomly and you don't care. It's a general problem in the Battle Shonen genre but I think Bleach is the worst at dealing with it of any of the major titles. Also as a result you don't know the characters well enough to be impressed when they say "that wasn't even my real power" and Bankai/release limiters/stop playing with their opponent/whatever. Wow, a random character with 4 lines just had a new power I didn't know about? Cool I guess.

Oh, and the series should have ended after Ichigo lost his powers. Yeah that left a few plot holes about Ichigo's mom but regaining powers you lost fighting Giga Nigga 9000 is one of those things like resurrections that just cheapen the plot to a ridiculous degree.

Nip fans are also scratching their heads because said old Mobius memes never reached them so there's apparently threads on 2ch asking why the stupid white pigs are loving this mediocre manga. I think the first real indicator will come in a few weeks when its "official" ranking comes out cause if it drops like a rock it was just a forced meme, but if it somehow gets 1st and a stupid amount of color pages then its 100% being astroturfed. Second will be the actual volumes sales but that's not till a few months from now.

Watched the first 4 episodes of friren yesterday. Honestly pretty good. Tried getting into the manga in the past but never could. It's definitely a slow burn, but it let's you immerse yourself in watching this ancient elf learning to care about people. Heard its also about loss, and I'm seeing that. Also she sleeps alot and Fern is basically her mom. Lol.

Most manga is mediocre these days. Almost every single one is a “boy meets girl” story that’s been done before and the ones that aren’t are often extremely underrated.

Tbf, I was honestly waiting for the anime to try Friren out. The magic alone combined with Madhouse going all out is what I was looking for.

So far what has been added is:

A bigger role and backstory for Chojiro
More screentime for Uryuu
Shortened fights/extended fights
New fights altogether
Ichigo's training with Ichibei
Slowly incorporating bits from CFYOW about the Soul King

A lot of is flavor things but the biggest plot changes themselves come from their more recent episodes where they do show how Ywach came to learn of the Soul King through Ichibei. As well as a MUCH better showing for the Zero Squad.

I used to think this but re-watching the Fullbring arc made me pretty glad it was around. It was nice seeing Ichigo actually dragged through the ringer as a character. Tsukishima has a perfect foil ability for a guy who just wants to protect his friends and family. I blame the anime's poor handling of the Arrancar arc and Kubo biting off more than he could chew. I think that arc dragged on for far too long and really damaged the series overall as a whole. The anime only made this matter worse due to constant filler and egregious recapping.

I don't disagree he made 40 characters with no development. However, I will argue all Shounen have a tendency to do this and I think by the TYBW, Kubo cracked the formula better than most. The fights and villains don't really matter outside of the main antagonists and what's more important are the character moments. For the most part, the fights in TYBW do deliver on this. Especially since it's the end of the series and the villains simply don't matter anymore. MHA has particularly struggled with it's large cast and thus we've spent 2 years on the same 4 fights. Other mangaka seemed to pick up on this habit now seem to stay away from wide casts of villains altogether to avoid this problem and I don't blame them.

A new season of The Saint's Magic Power Is Omnipotent aired yesterday. that was a nice show.

I'm hoping that eventually it's revealed that both of the summoned girls are proper Saints, just the one who was coddled by the prince never had a chance to fall in love with the world
