The new 2.0 Update feels mostly like what New Leaf Was. Still missing the Tropical Fruit though.

Also. Another interesting tip when trying to get fast deep sea creatures like Gigas Giant Clam, Red King Crab, Sea Pig, etc. Is to approach it 1 meter away. Stop for a few seconds and dive. It takes a few tries but that's the best way I found it.

New Horizons is pretty good, especially since the update added Brewster, Gyroids, furniture customisation, more stuff to craft and basically a whole Happy Home Designer mode into the main game. It’s a lot more about the decorating than the general life sim stuff in the community now though, be prepared for a lot of people sperging about their island’s theme/aesthetic. The biggest problem most people have with the game is the lack of depth in villager dialogue, like new leaf. But most of the criticism honestly comes from the fact that everyone and their dog tore through New Horizons during lockdown, played it nearly 24/7 and then got pissy when they inevitably ran out of things to do more quickly than usual due to their increased amount of free time. Which wasn’t helped by the fact Nintendo took like 2 years to do a content update for the thing.

I’ve taken a break from Animal Crossing for a while to focus on other games but I’ll probably get back into it at some point especially since the new update is a thing now and I still have a large chunk of island that’s pretty barren. I haven’t played new leaf in ages but I have been kinda missing Desert Island Escape so I might pick it up again soon. Plus I never got round to finishing my basement.
 
I've been playing Animal Crossing GC again and enjoying it. My town isn't very old at this point, but I've setup a small orchard in an acre that's both unused and out of the way, have upgraded the house, and I'm desperately trying to get it setup in a way that even makes a tiny bit of sense.

Most of the villagers are good, except for Coco because her vacant eyes are terrifying. One villager is constantly pissed off at me and I really wish he'd chill the fuck out, but instead he chooses to lob insults at me any chance he gets.

I wanted to play New Leaf, but the prices for a used 3ds are insane and I don't want to deal with critia so fuck that. The GC version definitely has less than others, but I still really, really like it. It's definitely not a game you can play for hours at a time though, I give it about 20-30 minutes a day right now to get everything done.

I've decided I'm gonna attempt to get into Animal Crossing, so I have New Horizons and just bought a used copy of New Leaf from the local thrift. I took a peek at the file and actually felt sad. The last owner hadn't touched it in about eight years to the point a villager didn't recognize the mayor at first, had a fellow friend dream pass saved whom has likely moved on as well, and let a house full of books and musical instruments get covered in dust and cockroaches.

I'm a n00b, is it possible for this town's dream address to be saved as a time capsule to visit even after I start a new file?

Yeah the dream address will persist. But I think the service for the 3DS no longer functions. Could be wrong about that.

Also don't let anyone give you a billion bells or a bunch of rare items if you are playing for the first time. That ruins the entire experience.

I know the 3DS servers are offline and I guess there's fans working on getting a server going for it like what happened for Pokémon. So as long as I write it down somewhere, I can potentially visit the previous owner's town? That's wonderful, I didn't want it to die like that.
 
I recently setup my old Wii in my room and have been playing the OG animal crossing for GameCube and it's so refreshing that villagers can actually be assholes. It feels like in every game after Wild World the villagers universally kiss your ass and love you unconditionally for no reason at all. It's creepy and weird. In the first two games you could get made fun of for being poor or get called dumb and that gave it personality.

Late but if you could homebrew the 3DS and have a save backed up for it. I have tons of towns that way. Its kinda sentimental to see ones old towns. I remember when I was younger and I went to Aika Village and Shep (One of my favorite villagers) moved out. I did not get rid of the doll when I first started.
