I always feel a little conflicted about Linkara. On one hand, I genuinely like a lot of his reviews, mostly the older ones but a few more recent ones as well. On the other hand, he doesn't seem like he's a very pleasant person to be around. His Tumblr posts would show up on my dash from time to time and he often seemed kind of snotty. I'm not really bothered by the smut; what he's into is his own business until he plasters it everywhere, really. But if it stays on adult sites I don't really care. But he's a pretty dodgy person.

tl;dr: I'll still watch his videos but adblock stays firmly on.
Once upon a time I assumed his arrogant attitude was part of his act since you can't judge someone's character from watching the video alone and lots of people review in character. It is disapointing to find out that really was his native state.

What killed Linkara and the NC for me were all the skits and I'm really glad it is not just me who finds them annoying. At first I treated Linkara's skits as though he was doing a parody of all the comic book plots, and they do a good job showing how absurd some of their plots really area. Then they started getting more intrusive and if you are not a regular follower of his series you are not going to know what is going. With how much continuity he has in his plots it would have done him well to just make it another series. I think Linkara's skits are his power fantasy which is why they are so prominent.

I stopped watching Linkara right around the midpoint of the Vile arc. A lot of my annoyance with him was mostly due to the fact that the skits would interrupt the flow of the review, have almost nothing to do with it, waste my time, and tick me off. The culminating factor was when he spent like 10% of the video building up to the review, then throwing in his intro, and then referencing a prior skit or something before he got into the comic. In retrospect a lot of his comic overviews were kind of trash in my opinion, since he sits there nitpicking every pissing page.

Also, I think in Linkara's case, he wants to make another Light Bringer, right down to making the character himself again. As an aside for those not in the know, he'll make a movie within the year, and since he met several stretchgoals, it'll be available online to spork... oh, and that movie made about 70% of the money that Doug demanded for the show he refilmed the same way 17 times. Dunno what that says really.

I got into Linkara's stuff too far in to know what on earth was going on. Because of this, I skipped them, and I even tried to watch his earliest stuff to when the sagas began. I couldn't find the origin and didn't bother since the skits were just very... awkward for me, like I was embarrassed for him, or if anyone saw what I was watching. If it was a satire on all the comics he reviewed, with clearer references and not taking itself seriously (because it honestly shouldn't), I wouldn't have been so turned off from it.

I mainly just skipped entirely over the skits to the review and closed the tab before the next 'episode' began around the end. Sometimes the episodes would go on for so long I wouldn't even bother trying to skip past and just went to another episode. He could easily make those into a separate show like Brad does with Cinema Snob and all his other miscellaneous skits, because he knows people don't want to sit through ten minutes of an adult man making a Star Trek/Dr. Who/Power Ranger larping session before and after a review on how goofy and awkward a comic is. It's kinda hypocritical, in my opinion.

I've not stopped watching Linkara because of his porn, though. It's more on the fact he didn't bother keeping it secret or to himself like normal people do that makes it more uncomfortable for me. If you want to be some internet celebrity - again, on the internet - you better keep that shit to yourself, or people are naturally going to have reactions towards it.

Nonetheless, the quality in his actual reviews of comics seemed to get more bland for me, with less explanation and just him trying to add in sarcasm on how bad it is, but if I saw that old spark he used to have for his older stuff, I'd most likely start watching his stuff again. I'd just happily know that I'd still have adblock on for every single video, though, so thanks for your immature reaction, Linkara, you've made me go out of my way now to never watch a single ad for you, but I'd definitely give a few bucks to others who handled opening a patreon like adults and didn't demand it from me.

The only good Linkara episode is Neutro #1 and that's final. The sketch only really happens at the end, all the 'in-continuity' stuff is irrelevant [you don't need to know or care where the magic coin came from], and it ends better than his other episodes even if it ends in a shitty one-liner.

But I'm biased because "HE RIDES A FREAKING WHALE" makes me laugh. I wouldn't watch that and give him money, though.

You forgot about the one where he does a dead on impression of Chris 'The Irate Gamer' Bores. That episode was the only time Linkara has made me full on belly laugh.

I used to like Linkara when he used to actually review comic books. Some of the things he said were insightful and let's face it he brought back Snowflame into the light of day so that can't be too bad but things changed when I tried to watch one of his riffs. They weren't funny. Then I found he was riffing on the comic books more than actually reviewing them. Then it was the whole "King of Worms" subplot where it felt like he was trying too hard and I really lost interest after that.

And looking at CA as a whole, there's really not much there anymore. I like me some Cinema Snob because we've got the same taste in movies. I'll watch some Diamanda Hagan for the same reason. And then there's Mike J but that's really it. Occasionally the Nostalgia Critic does something good but the skits seem to take away from the movie itself. Beyond that most of the actual talent has left the site for whatever reasons.

I think it was a good ride while it lasted but nothing lasts forever and while CA will last as long as it's profitable, I know I'm going to find myself going there less and less.

Speaking of "the second most stupid Chris in the universe", wich one are his most hated reviews? For me personally, it's his Ghost & Goblins one, when he is trying to make the difficulty of it the main schtick, but only a blind goose would miss that he plays the arcade game (wich infinite lives) after the first level already, not mentioning it even, i mean... blimey! Did he really think it would go unnoticed?

After reading about Dobson's patreon, I decided to look at Tacoman's (since he plugs it at the end of every episode). He's withholding doing episodes on certain games until he meets certain goals. For example, Conker's Bad Fur day at $1000 per episode, Banjo Kazooie at $1500. About $27 more he'll play Clock Tower 3 and Seaman.

Really want to see him play Seaman.

Seaman certainly looks out of left field, especially the fact that it comes from the creator of what is, essentially, a glorified elevator simulator.

So, some confession time from me. I used to be a very huge Linkara fan. Like... I religiously watched his videos. In fact, I could literally explain to you the entire Linkara continuity, with how his Magic Gun works, why he has a Pyramid Head, why he can turn into a Power Ranger, and why there's some sort of shit about Missingno trying to destroy the world.

I won't because I had a falling out with Channel Awesome in general about a year or two back and I've never really gotten back into them. ... And I've started to realize that, in fact, Linkara's schtick wasn't too great.

Going through this topic kinda breaks me heart too, but somehow part of me kinda realizes that it's probably true. I can't fault him on whether or not he got comic shit right or wrong or not, since I never got into comics and I just liked him pointing out bad artwork and stuff and laughing at it, but he does kinda ooze pretentiousness at times, and the fact that his "story arcs" have become so long-winded and drawn out, with all of this past gags coming back from previous reviews and all of this past referencing and whatnot have just overinflated the reviews to these drawn out "skit fights." Like, it was fun the first time, but Linkara literally does this crap to end every single goddamn arc, and that's where it gets boring.

To cite an example that did it better, AVGN. Yes, the Nerd's schtick also got a bit tiring at times since he seems to have the same jokes on a loop, but at the very least, when the Nerd did these high action fights and stuff, he didn't do them every 20th review and bore us with them.

More confession time, because I also used to be a very huge Nostalgia Critic fan. And... I actually sorta liked Demo Reel. What can I say? I have pretty shit taste sometimes. That being said, at least NC's skits are spread out more in the review and he actually uses the skits to do some more analysis of the film at the end and why some elements work and some don't. They're still a bit tiring, yes, but the fact that full NC reviews are a week apart and that the skits don't soak up some big chunk of the video make them a bit more bearable. Also, you get the feeling that Doug and his crew aren't trying to take the arcs quite as seriously as Linkara.

Seriously, I'm starting to get the feeling that Linkara thinks his continuity thing is brilliant, when it's barely a step above his old fanfiction work.

That happened. I guess this is the result of some InideGoGo the guys at TGWTG did back in 2013 that raised nearly $90,000. Anyone who can watch the whole thing deserve their own $90k.
Its pretty much everything i expected it would be. The only thing I'm genuinely surprised about is they got actual contestants to appear instead of just having Doug and his crew dress up in costumes and pretend to be different characters.

Also, according to Obscurus Lupa, they shot the pilot at least 17 times. On the same set, with the same contestants, and the same set of questions. Yep. Can't wait to hear LordKat's comments on it.

If that's true about the same set of questions, then those contestants are complete mongs to still not know the answer to about 70% of the questions.

The one I feel sorry for the most in this is Brad, he's much better than that shit.

Wow... I'm late on the whole Linkara revelation, but wow... I never watched his reviews, but I thought he seemed like a decent person...

Anyway, like others have said there was a time when I watched TGWTG and CA, but I stopped around the time that the long skits were added to NC's reviews. In my opinion though, while the skits were mostly a miss for me, I at least think that Doug still tries to put a lot of effort into his reviews. His reviews don't do anything for me anymore, but after watching the BTS of his reviews, there's obviously effort put into what is done. I watched Spoony up until his twitter meltdown, and I only watched nostalgia chick up until she started posting on ChezApocalypse (sorry if that's not spelt right). I also watched Todd in the shadows up until his "Worst pop songs of 2014." The whole "review" of the songs he chose was just him saying how much the song sucked (not why it sucked). It was just him complaining.

Again, like others have said, I really only watch Brad Jones because he doesn't take himself too seriously. His character is literally a parody of cinema snobs.

This whole CA thing erupted into so much drama that I kind of backed out of all of it until now.

I haven't taken a look at the pilot. It honestly looks kinda dumb to me and I know Doug's other projects haven't gone well in the past, hence why he returned to reviewing. I still like Channel Awesome but in kind of a 'there's nothing else on' way. Personally I think NC is starting to get better at integrating his skits into his reviews. I still prefer his straight reviews, but this isn't as bad as it once was. At least he seems to be learning and improving - or attempting to improve.

Brad Jones and MikeJ are the best reviewers on the site, IMHO.

If you notice the pre-recorded intro to the show, they recorded it before Brad started losing his hair. And if Lupa is to believe, he was still married. It's been that long in production. Poor, poor Brad. :(

And apparently, there's another five episodes already finished. Oh boy.
