The only Left Field choice was Mad Max Fury Road. It's like you said, aside from Fury Road it's made entirely of obvious choices. All of his choices come up on a clickbait site. So the video is essentially a ripoff of a clickbait site.

My own personal choices for great sequels:

Friday the 13th Part 4, part 6, and Remake.
Nightmare on Elm Street part 3. Special mention to part 2.
Hellraiser part 2 and part 5.
Halloween 3: Season of the Witch.
Evil Dead 2.
Robocop 2.
Alien 3: Assembly Cut.
The Purge: Anarchy (the Purge part 2, actually it's the only good film in that series).
Day of the Dead (third part in Romero's Dead Trilogy).
Return of the Living Dead 3.
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.
Nekromantik 2.
Rambo 4 (AKA Rambo).
Addams Family Values (Part 2).
The Punisher: Warzone (debatable if it counts as a sequel or it's just a stand alone/reboot)
Batman V Superman.
Ilsa: the Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks.
Escape from Los Angelas.

My list is mostly made up of horror entries but there's a lot of great and underrated sequels.

Did he seriously just say Star Wars had a much more difficult sequel to pull off than one of the most celebrated movies in film history on the basis that it had to impress more people?

I don't know what's worse, trying to compare two movies of totally different genres (because Star Wars is SO similar to The Godfather) or insinuating that The Godfather Part II had an easier job being made because it didn't have to appeal to a wider audience such as kids (never mind that following up what many considered even at the time to be one of the best movies ever made is a Herculean task in and of itself). Doug clearly did not think that statement through.

Lol "I don't want to spoil the ending, but..." He fucking did that when he was trying to shit on Harry Potter and the Deathly (or according to Doug, DORKY LOLOLOL) Hallows, stating that Harry lives and Dumbledore dies. He'll gladly ruin the endings for popular works he finds beneath him, but for the Star Wars hipster trend thats going on now? Better not give away too much!
 
I think the "Empire Strikes Back was riskier than Godfather Part II" comment shows a lot about him. He really doesn't seem to have any sort of interest of anything that's outside what's popular or what he personally grew up with. Why the hell does he call himself a critic in the first place?

I think he's just very consciously pandering to his audience of manchildren. By stating that Star Wars is more important than a "grown up" movie like Godfather, he validates them for only consuming media aimed at children and teenagers eventhough they're pushing 30.

Knowing Doug is becoming more and more like WatchMojo, it seems I've dodged a bullet. Knowing how Doug approaches this subject, I'm convinced he thinks all sequels are bad, too - but for no good reason.

Probably wants their viewers. Wouldn't be the first time he pandered to people he normally doesn't bother with.
 
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a substantial amount of Channel Awesome's audience hasn't seen The Godfather. If I'm not mistaken, the first episode of Pop Quiz Hot Shot hosted by Doug had the contestants fail at identifying a quote from The Godfather. They had no problem regurgitating Nostalgia Critic memes, however.

What kind of memes? Like "frying the Coke"? Even when I was a fan of his it seemed pretty obvious that he wanted to make "fetch" happen with that saying.
 
Sorry in advance for the double-post.

Two personal picks for best sequels are Blade II and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (it's probably a coincidence both were directed by the same guy).
 
A while back, I discovered a rather underrated YouTube reviewer called StitchedTogetherPics. The guy who hosts it plays a character called Andy, who is supposed to be schizophrenic so he has two other personalities who crack jokes at the movies he reviews.

They aren't technically angry reviews, they have a very chill atmosphere about them and Andy seems to be a pretty cool guy and is entertaining in his own right. The only thing I don't care for is the death metal song that opens most of his reviews.

His main series is called Boots to Reboots which reviews remakes and stacks them against the original movie, and amazingly it's not as spergy as you'd think, he's definitely a lot smarter in his critiques than other so-called critics. Plus he's a pretty good editor.

He's also been branching out to reviewing movies as they're released in the theater, such as Suicide Squad and Rob Zombie's 31.

Personally I find this guy criminally underrated, he puts more effort into his videos than most YouTube spergs and I think he's actually kinda funny.

Doug seriously believes kid's media nowadays is more important/entertaining/relevant than adult media. He made a whole video about it some time ago. And I remember he finished it with saying "Steven Universe is better than Game of Thrones." I knew he hit the autism rock hard there.
