Agreed. Like the saying goes, you don't necessarily have to be a carpenter to know the table is wobbly.

However - and I forget who brought it up earlier in the thread - the fact that the Walkers don't associate with other filmmakers - only other hobbyists - says a little more than it should.

Side note: Back when I was a regular NC watcher many moons ago, I recall Doug Walker doing a commentary (I forget off hand if this was a commentary track to an episode or a dedicated video) in which he disclosed that he'd be afraid to collaborate with a Hollywood studio or entity because of how they'd try to alter his vision. Thank Christ we have the purity of Kickassia to show us Doug's unfettered capabilities.

Fair enough. I didn't mean for it to come off that way. I was thinking more along the lines of "maybe he could've done something like this but he either barked up the wrong tree or couldn't access whatever college program could've helped him down this path"

It's more I've noticed this complaint about how kids deserve better movies has been a bit of a recurring theme. I'd like to believe he's truly passionate and that maybe if he made some different decisions he could've done this. I mean, it was to my understanding that Doug worked as an illustrator or something and wasn't very successful at it, then quit when Nostalgia Critic got big. More likely though, it's probably just me reading too much into things and forgetting to separate Doug the person from Doug the Nostalgia Critic.
 
Honestly if Demo Reel and his movies are anything to go by, anything out of Doug's "media" would be mediocre/average products. I'd reckon even kids would get bored with his bajillion 30 year old pop culture jokes.

I think Doug actually did admit somewhere that he wouldn't be up to the task of working in Hollywood. Not for any creative shortcomings mind you, but because he'd be no good at playing studio politics and would just get screwed over even if he did make something successful.

Which, to be totally fair, is something that a lot of budding actors and creatives never acknowledge, either due to excessive pride or a lack of self-awareness.

I honestly would be amazed if they even knew what those references would be from.
 
All this talk about that Jones/Walker collaboration made me truly realize about how awkward it must be to be a member of CA.

Cinemassacre for example, you can tell Rolfe, Matei and Kyle Justin (read: guitar guy) and anybody else involved are actually friends IRL and you can see that they have some actual chemistry.

CA on the other hand is a crowd of people that are plucked from the interwebs and are thus likely many many miles away from one another. There's nothing that really indicates that these people even like each other once the cameras stop rolling. The most contact these people have with one another are comments on blog posts and Skype calls.

I think Brad is pragmatic, he gets a bit more exposure on CA, and he gets free rein as the Walkers know how popular he is.
 
It looks like that video might have done the trick. The total raised appears to have increased dramatically since I last checked it over the weekend. That being said, I'd like to think that we're now past the point where the CA contributors can start a crowdfunding campaign and expect the money to flow forth just 'cause. Had Pop Quiz Hotshot actually been delivered on time with a slight (and I do mean slight) increase in quality, Channel Awesome would have probably mounted at least two more campaigns by now.
 
Doug hopping the bandwagon of Pokemon. Doug's opinion about Pokemon is like, so important you guys


you gotta love how they defend Ninja Turles and Transformers even though they have the same shit as Pokemon: dumb concept and over-merchandised as fuck.

One thing I can't stand is when Rob does that "whiny voice" when he imitates someone. He just sounds so pretentious.

EDIT: In the preview image Doug looks like 60...
