Double standards I presume.

"Yeah, fuck your childhood, mine was more important! You say you watched Sesame Street too? Screw that, I'll still make fun of this other thing you liked with no remorse because I say so!"

I'm more than certain that Doug will find something to complain about. Even if it's something incredibly stupid and minor.
"This movie doesn't have enough pro-imperialistic overtones. Dare I say, it's actually against imperialism."

In his Disney-cember review of Lilo and Stitch, he complained about the inclusion of the sci-fi and fantastical elements in the movie, stating that the more compelling movie would have focused more on the relationship with the sisters. That's what's going to get those families' butts in seats!
Don't you know all children want to see a drama about grief and dead parents?

Pretty sure he didn't know the source material for Power Rangers or why really the original cast left.I have realised his fanbase seem to share the same hive mind when it comes to his reviews.

I remember the two times he ever talked about the Power Rangers and both times he states "I can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to fall for this", like it's some underhanded trick & as if five year olds are stupid for watching karate super heroes on Saturday mornings.

Doug gives me this impression that he thinks he is intellect supreme. He only bends on this notion of being always right when a tidal wave of people force it on him, because disagreeing with a popular opinion isn't exactly profitable.

The number one example I can name is Steven Universe. Funny how he described the show that rips off Power Rangers as the next step in cartoon evolution because of its moral fiber. Only adults give a shit about moralfaggotry, especially in kids cartoons. He literally put that pudge-fest above titles like X-Men when he said this.

Whenever I hear about Steven Universe, my mind goes to the image of that parent that wants to put rounded corners on everything, because the show features rounded corners on all the artwork. Oddly enough, I get the same effect from Undertale.

And all I can think is "These people are today's adults."

Then the next thought follows; "I'm an adult."

Then the next; "What am I doing?"

Then when I wake up tomorrow, I'll be refreshed. I'll start all over again at the beginning, completely bereft of any of the perspective I obtained the previous day. Nothing accomplished, much like always. Such is the ouroboros nature of brain chemistry.

There is only more futility in change than in complaining, such is the heat death of the cosmos.

I'm going to go & stare at the ceiling for a while. Perhaps I'll forget.

And another CA producer just jumped ship:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=NJGRejEbqc8
Never really checked out his videos. Went on his website to look for the FAQ he mentioned (tl;dr: He's not gonna do a "burning bridges" text or explain why he left out side of it beinge "personal reasons"), but I checked out his video on Godzilla (the first from 1954) and it was insightful, informative and to the point.

So yeah, apparently this guy's a good contributor and he's choosing to leave CA. Indeed, the ship's been sinking.

I doubt CA will keel over anytime soon, but at this point, the number of quality contributors dwindles. When other people like Brad go, the page will sink into a sea of shit without any merit. Some die-hard fans will still be loyal to it, but I do expect a notable exodus of fans down to a certain number on which it will be stuck for quite some time.

Why do people go nuts over Steven Universe in the first place? I swear folks nowadays sperg for the most basic bland shit...You'd think Doug being an "intellectual" would like something more mature.

I blame the tumblr following it's gotten. I understand why kids would like it (the colors, art and action, mostly). But really, it reminds me of the Brony culture- a show that somehow got a dumb following that has entered past the point of no return.

Kids actually don't like it if the viewership stats are correct. By comparison, the ponies actually have viewers in the intended age range.

Like I said, his fans forced him into it. Well, when I say "forced" I really mean "begged" but they're synonymous in this context so it doesn't matter which I use. As for why "people" like it, it's the same reason why they like Undertale; rounded corners. There is nothing challenging about it, emotionally or intellectually. Neither are even visually impressive, they're basic & rudimentary.

It used to be that kids couldn't wait to embrace the independence of adulthood. Now adults can't wait to embrace the lack of responsibility in childhood.

Maybe it's because these days people aren't primed to reach out for what they want in defiance of an authority figure & they thusly lack reason to become their own person. I really am curious about this.

I noticed that Doug just started doing Adventure Time Vlogs again ... Just why? At least with Steven Universe he's vloging a show that's currently popular at the moment, barely anyone cares about Adventure Time now.

Do these even count as kids shows at this point? Do kids even watch them? Would it be a surprise to anyone if they were watching the Walking Dead instead?

Kids get into more adult media while actual adults obsess over kid's media.
The hell.

Every kid wants to be an adult because kids are vicious bastards that want to watch people being dismembered. Adults want to be kids because they are nostalgic for when they didn't have to pay bills and when they didn't have responsibilities.

Effectively, our whole society is autistic as fuck and at the very top of the pyramid sits Doug Walker, he remembers all this shit because he's the only one who cares.

Can I see a source? This sounds interesting.

I agree with the whole "Doug shits on everyone else's childhood" thing. I was into Power Rangers as a kid, and we've all seen what he thinks of it. Like Ninja Turtles was so mature and serious.

I would love to see Doug try to tackle Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Just for the size, complexity, politics and themes present to see how he reacts. This is a show where people talking strategy can get you on the edge of your seat.

@Kamen Rider Black RX, he'd probably either brush it off because it's anime (remember, he needed help to review Digimon, and had jack shit of a clue with Pokemon. If had trouble with those two, show people likely grew up with, then LoGH is probably not up his alley). He'll skim it and make a half-assed review on the whole series, or he'll do a V-log thing with it.

And odds are, that second option, the one where he half-asses it, feels more likely.

Remember when he criticized Miyazaki and people completely told him off.

Honestly I'm kinda surprised that he hasn't put some racist joke here and there whenever he reviews anime. It would be so easy for him to add in a "Yellow Peril" joke or something

kind of like with the Thomas the tank engine movie which again he was unfamiliar with the source material and continued to bitch and whine when he saw things the show does all the time, it's probably one of the easiest franchises to do research on, and again its a movie for kids making him look even more pathetic about how much he was sperging

In his defense (and God, I can't believe I'm doing this), the review was actually kind of funny. Mainly because of Alec Baldwin's interpretation of Mr. Conductor.

I do, and while I commend Doug for going against popular opinion. In this case he probably shouldn't have. Given how his fanbase is just as, if not slightly more, dumb as he is when it comes to media.

He did make a joke (about not making a joke) about the 2011 tsunami. Not really racist but it certainly is tasteless. Dude didn't even wait a year.

In that case, Alec's the funny one, not Doug. If the only funny lines are coming from the supposedly bad movie, It's not a good review.

You don't commend a guy for doing this alone though. Doug only does this because of a mixture of wanting to be more unique plus since it wasn't in his childhood, he can give less of a fuck about it. Plus he seems the type to just not like anime in general due to autistic tribalism.

Yeah, you're right. I retract my previous statement.

Then again, most of Doug's reviews from 90s movies feel like he didn't grow up on them. Heck, even the "retrospectives" he made on Ninja Turtles, DuckTales and Transformers feel the same.

I remember he made some snide remarks about Mako when he reviewed the one TMNT animated movie as well.

Most people who do review franchises such as Digimon at least do research on it. Such as it was part of the whole Tamagotchi fad and so fourth. He's kind of harsh on any movies made by Don Bluth as well.
