Oh they're running a premium service now? Smart idea. Idiots will always pay extra money just to feel like a special member of an elite few.
I think that's part of Doug's contract with Vessel.

Whenever I see anything by Doug these days, all I can think of is this:I will never watch their clipless reviews. They're worse than Demo Reel.
Doug needs to just start making original content and I don't mean anything like Demo Reel. Demo Reel was still a show about nitpicking other people's movies, it had horribly unfunny humor and it was filmed poorly. They need to pay James Rolfe to teach them how to not suck at studio filming, budget their fucking money & how the equipment they do have is meant to be used; I still remember when they had Brad Jones talking into a shotgun mic that was meant to be mounted on cameras when he was standing at a podium.
Also, no, absolutely NO game shows. Nobody wants to watch a scripted reality program & everybody knows that's exactly what he'd do, because that's exactly what he's done. If you're going to use a script for something, make it worthwhile.
Actually, now that I mention it, why did people fund the gameshow anyway? Surely to God they all knew what Demo Reel was like and that Doug was balls out incompetent. He should set up a Patreon given that his fans are retarded enough to continue funding his dumbass.

I'd argue that scripted reality programs is probably the best way for them to go. Obviously they don't have a massive budget and reality-style programs are notorious for their popularity and cheapness to make. Not to mention their original content (their movies, demo reel) have been shit. With the right set up and post-production decisions a game show or fake reality show or whatever could be more profitable. As it is they just made a cheap game show with fanboys. Also, no, absolutely NO game shows. Jesus Christ. Spergier then the sum of it's parts.
On a somewhat positive note, James Rolfe recently released an AVGN episode all about the series' 10th anniversary. A decade producing stuff on YouTube is pretty insane to imagine, but anyway, congrats man.
Say what you will about James, but I have an immense respect for the guy on a variety of levels. The "angry expletive-spewing negative critic" spiel has long since worn out its welcome thanks in part to the Channel Awesome chucklefucks and its wannabes (who are all by proxy derivatives of the AVGN) driving the concept into the ground, but even the more recent AVGN episodes are still 100x funnier than anything CA as a whole has shat out in the last 5 years alone.
Thus, nobody ever makes risque jokes, unless it happens to be Doug Walker who owns everybody at Channel Awesome.
I think it's actually because everyone on CA takes themselves and their reviews WAY too seriously, whereas you can plainly tell that Rolfe is still just fucking around and having fun. Plus while he does play up the "angry" aspect of it, he doesn't rely on his screaming as the sole source of comedy for his reviews.I believe a big part as to why this is would be because the members of Channel Awesome hold each other back by putting a limit of what's acceptable to publish. We've seen an example of this with Spoony's basement fucking joke on Twitter, the one that Lupa didn't care about until months after he wrote it. It's very clear that this bungle of so called "friends" will strangle each other at the first opportunity and force each other off the site.

It also doesn't help that the majority of their viewers come from Tumblr.
Not giving a shit is also one of many reasons why these hack frauds are so funny and worth watching:I think it's actually because everyone on CA takes themselves and their reviews WAY too seriously, whereas you can plainly tell that Rolfe is still just fucking around and having fun. Yeah, it's obvious that James, despite the whole AVGN thing having far worn out its welcome, still wants to make this out of passion. And knows a thing or two about filmmaking, even if his movie wasn't all that great (though still miles better than any CA clusterfuck).Say what you will about James, but I have an immense respect for the guy on a variety of levels. If Doug ever tried doing legit reviews, you'd see his audience drop off the face of the Earth.
It helps that only a handful of AVGN episodes are produced now a year.
I think it's a similar reason as to why Rhianna has to keep pumping out music. Her handlers know if she slows down she'll become irrelevant. Same thing with CA. If they don't pump out a review every week to satisfy the fanbase, the fanbase'll get bored and go elsewhere.Quality over quantity, a idea that seems to have gone over the idea of most of the "reviewers" on channel awesome...
Didn't she also take a years-long hiatus and came back with more hits?I think it's a similar reason as to why Rhianna has to keep pumping out music. Which just goes to show that even her handlers knew when enough was enough.Didn't she also take a years-long hiatus and came back with more hits?
