I know what you mean. Before I found out about A-Log's infamous six-inch foxdick, I just thought he was just a criminally unfunny hack who made boring YouTube videos about how that "dang dirty CWC makes autistics look bad". How he got 5,000+ subscribers at his height is something that I will never understand, but I feel that I just answered my own question.

I know what you mean. There are numerous terrible performers on Youtube that make video game reviews and Lets Plays that get upwards of that many fairly easily, and have large fanbases that plead them to make more videos.

Believe me A-log getting lots of subscribers doesn't surprise me. Pretty much anyone will subscribe to someone who puts out enough content on a regular basis.

Probably not. Considering that someone here said that there are more LP'ers that try to be like PewDiePie than "critics" trying to be like the AVGN, the angry reviewing is not really that relevant.
 
The only reason why angry reviewers like AVGN, Armake, and Jedite where popular in the first place is because there was literally nothing on youtube back then. That was when 06-07? Besides some really grainy music videos and extremely unfunny v-logs you didn't really have much selection.

Nowadays it's kinda more of the ironic game reviews or shit LP's. As such.

Indeed. Back in 06-07 these guys were basically new to the scene, giving these angry reviews that had gotten them some e-fame. Once they became popular, you get a ton bunch of wannabe teenagers who had more dislike/less stars than that of AVGN or Armake. I guess one funny thing to say about the AVGN is that it was like one of CWC's trolls. James Rolfe only did the AVGN thing as a joke but then decided to roll with it, just like how Alec (I think, didn't he become a troll after Chris called him.) trolled Chris with the phone calls.
To sum up what I'm saying, James Rolfe didn't find the angry reviewing, the angry reviewing found him.

People just like others that puppet ideas they agree with. Like JonTron makes videos that talk ad nauseium about Nintendo games he likes.

Then there's also GameGrumps, which lost all amusement once they plainly showed they didn't intend to finish any of their games. Which infuriated me personally since it just feels so lazy when you put such low production values into your video as is.

Like when someone does a Lets Play and doesn't finish the bloody game it annoys the crap out of me. All your doing is turning your mic on and talking while playing a video game, if you have an established fanbase they're going to watch your crappy video anyway you might as well finish the game.
 
I gotta admit, I do like AVGN and James Rolfs other videos, and there are a handful of people on TGWTG that I follow, Doug, Linkara, Phelous, and Brad Jones. And I like Red Letter Medias movie reviews, but those aren't "angry" reviews anyway. Although one thing I never got was the whole "lets make these reviews also have a story." I gotta admit, even through I really like his reviews, I always skip the story segments in Linkaras vids, I like how Phelous spoofs that, but I understand that his vids people either love or hate, I actually like the meta jokes.

It mostly all started when reviewers claimed that they were "characters". Like the Nostalgia Critic is a "Character" as opposed to just a more brash version of his own personality. Once they realized they were portraying "characters" then they started to thrust their romantic dreams about being filmmakers and actors into their reviews without realizing they don't really have the talent to pull it off.

The cameos pissed me off more with TGWTG videos. Mostly because a lot of the reviewers there usually didn't really do much except be a more obnoxious other guy. The only one I liked was when Spoony cameoed with Pat the NES punk to talk about Highlander 3, mostly because Pat is a huge Highlander fanboy and knew a lot about the original cut of the film.

I can get over the fact that Game Grumps don't finish any game but what I can't get over is the fact they are so painfully unfunny. After watching some of their videos and scrolling through the comments basically saying everyone is "LOLing at the commentary" it really makes me wonder...is everyone stupid except for me?

Game Grumps and Jon Tron huh. Well I've seen one Game Grump video that did mock the "angry" gamer but I never seen Jon Tron. I honestly do not care if they are popular, overrated, or annoying as long as they aren't like Game Dude in spamming and lack of originality or DSP in terms of a lack of skill and constantly dying.

Game Grumps got 100% more watchable when JonTron left. Nothing personal against him, I just don't think his brand of "humor" is enjoyable.
 
I think it has to do with their real personalities, for example, AVGN and The Nostalgia Critic are just characters, James Rolfe and Doug Walker are just people that want to entertain the others with their work, and they do it the best that they can, they don't take themselves too serious, they don't go around creating flamewars or hating and cursing, that's why i like them, because they don't think that their opinion is 100% true or something like that, they do their jobs the best they can, they actually make fun and criticize their own works, Pat the NES Punk always do his homework before talking about some game, he takes away the "angry" part and just talks about everything he knows about the game, and gives his opinion, because he, just like James Rolfe, is a good collecter that just wants to have a good time... and what about Cr1TiKaL?? that guy also takes away the "angry" part and just makes fun comments about the game, the game might be shitty but he still knows how to make a funny gameplay of it, and he doesn't want any kind of benefit of that, that's why he donates all the money that he recieves from youtube...

Most of the ripoffs doesn't understand that those are just games, or movies, they take them too serious, they want popularity and fame with no effort, but they also don't admit any kind of critic or commentary about their works... so, it's all about ego, people that think that they're perfect and so is their work...
