Swedish researchers this week unveiled burial costumes in graves from the Viking Age with the words ‘Allah’ and ‘Ali’ written on them.

Muslims use the word Allah for god, while Ali is the name of Prophet Muhammad’s cousin and son-in-law.

The Vikings could be influenced by Islam and "the idea of an eternal life in paradise after death," Annika Larsson, a researcher in textile archaeology at Uppsala University, told Anadolu Agency on Friday.

The words which appeared as ancient Arabic script’s Kufic characters were found in silk costumes in boat-graves as well as in chamber graves in Sweden's Birka, the historic Viking city.

"In the Quran, it is written that the inhabitants of paradise will wear garments of silk, which along with the text band’s inscriptions may explain the widespread occurrence of silk in Viking Age graves," the researcher said in an earlier statement.

Similar Kufic characters were also found in mosaics on burial monuments and mausoleums, primarily in Central Asia, the university said in a statement.

In 2015, Swedish researchers at Stockholm University also discovered a ninth century ring in a Viking grave with an inscription that says ‘for Allah’ or ‘to Allah’.

These viking artifacts existed for hundreds of years, but its amazing that they've only surfaced now that mass Islamic immigration is a major political concern.
Sweden was a multicultural, Shariah country all along, who knew?

Technically doesn't prove anything in this case because they are literally just looking at the tie off points in strips of tablet weave and then asserting that it is the sign of allah when it is clearly just a (very) vaguely similar shape in weave of the fabric.
It's like they're not even trying, since they could have pushed "muslims were vikings!" using actual islamic artifacts which were bought/stolen by vikingr and taken back to Sweden.

Well blacks already think they were Vikings, Poles, Russian nobility and British royalty. So this isn't much of a stretch. Without more evidence than some patterns that look like words in another language there's really not much to go on.

If you find a tomb of a Muslim Viking you've probably just found the tomb of someone who joined a Viking warband. It's not rocket science lol

Probably something like that . Or the ring and fabrics were plundered or traded. Today's Swedes are fine with cultural enrichment. They're probably thrilled that rapefugees can now claim a common ancestry with them.

If they were Muslims, it's pretty meaningless. Religious converts are common in any widespread trading empire. There was a thriving cult of Isis in the Roman Empire that spread as far as Britain. Britons based in India in the 19th century often converted to Islam, Hinduism and Sikhism. And lest we forget, the most popular religion in the world today started out as a weird Jewish sect in Roman-era Palestine. All a Muslim Viking proves is that they were just like any other society.

Also Viking, and European warrior tribes in general, understanding of these religions was spotty at best.

To the Viking, Saxon, etc... a God was someone who could provide them with victory in battle.

This is like finding an image of the Mother Mary in your grilled cheese and taking it as a sign that you should buy more lottery tickets.
