As others have mentioned, Amber doesn't really have any reason to change. Looking at her life from her perspective, what else could she possibly want? She has an enabling girlfriend, an endless cash flow from Youtube, and all the delicious treats in the world. The only thing I can think of is her wanting to get Destiny back, but I don't think Destiny would take her back even if Amber miraculously lost 400 pounds. Amber's problems are deeper than just her weight, and she's proven time and time again that she will never change her manipulative, selfish ways.
People who manage to get as big as Amber absolutely have to find motivation to both lose the weight and keep it off for good. For example, many patients on My 600 Pound Life are motivated by their kids, their significant other, their dreams, etc. Again, what does Amber have to work towards? As you said, she has food and that's all that truly matters to her. It's somewhat tragic to think about, but there's nothing that can be done to change the ways of a stubborn deathfat like her. I doubt she'll outlive Twinkie at this point.
Not to mention, it really is just a lot of weight to lose.
It’s really not that hard to start losing weight, and AL knows it. She does tend to lose a tiny bit of weight for a short amount of time nearly every time she revamps her weight loss efforts. But to really be successful she needs to be consistent. She does all this prep work to lose weight, gets herself all excited about it, but by the time the first five or ten pounds come off she’s already over it. I hate to even slightly defend AL, but it is an awfully daunting task. She could lose 200lbs and still be well into the morbidly obese BMI range. What’s the point in dedicating all that time and effort into losing weight if she could lose 200lbs and still be so far from healthy? And 200lbs would take a long time to lose even if she followed the ideal diet plan for her size. And the more weight she loses the more likely she’ll stop losing because her diet ceases to provide a calorie deficit. That’s why her goal weight doesn’t really matter, and she openly acknowledges it. The best she’s hoping for is a slightly smaller form of morbidly obese and why bother trying for that?
For AL to really complete her weight loss journey she would need to commit to years of a completely different lifestyle than she’s been accustomed to for most of her life. AL is not the kind of person who can fall off the wagon for a few weeks and at least maintain their progress without putting pounds back on. If she did fall of track it’d be highly unlikely she’d ever really start back up again anyway. Worst of all she has nothing going on in her life to really distract her from food and eating. She starts her diet and all she can really do is sit around the house or do laps in the driveway.
So from AL’s perspective, I kind of get. Not saying it’s okay, or that she should have ever let it get to this point to begin with, but it’s easy to see why she’s stuck. She’s got no real support system. As long as she has a doormat of a girlfriend to boss around, she’ll never lose the weight. It’s easier for her not to.
