I've read through this, and I have some autistic commentary.

- A few of you said she legitimately seems to be schizophrenic. I do not see how this is true. Drug-induced-psychosis isn't Sz unless it continues long after the use have stopped. Being in treatment for psychosis isn't the same as a Sz Dx.

- Some of you are using "malingering" wrong. It's not synonymous with Munchausens/Factitious Disorder. IDCP is malingering: faking a Dx for material gain. FD is faking or actually making yourself sick to get a psychological validation. FD seems like a realistic diagnosis here ("I love my feeding tube").

I knew some anorexics that loved their feeding tubes, but somehow I don't think that's the case here....

- One of you said she'll die alone. She has a female partner (or seems to).

- @Moogsy already said what I was gonna say, "The cognitive level of someone who "appears retarded" can range from childlike to genius levels." Not making the right words or body language makes people think you're an idiot even for norps, really.

-I've got a friend who was burnt on acid. He's....not like this.

Also I thought she could maybe have Downs Syndrome and complications maybe, but nobody else has mentioned it.

I think she might have been legitimately fried from psychedelics at some point, but that time is long past. The couple people I knew who did way, way too much acid for a period of years acted like they just hatched from a fucking egg or something. This lasted a couple years and slowly faded back into something more or less normal.

Never seen it from stuff like shrooms, though.

Maybe she just got used to being treated as a basically disabled nut and after that wore off, just started faking it. Almost all this bullshit looks like it was devised after reading about the symptoms. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she ripped off symptoms from case studies of other people.

Oh yeah. If the drugs made her psychotic that's totally legit. I just meant her current behavior isn't caused by it. (My friend is like a TV hippie stereotype, kinda half-lucid like he's busy hearing the colors...great guy though, super nice.)

I suppose you could trigger latent psychosis with them. Even pot can if you've got the predisposition. (But shrooms obviously don't cause "mysterious late-onset autism".)

This is exactly what I thought. Instead of being boring and ugly and normal, she got tons of attention and specialness from being in the mental ward post-drugs. Instead of people treating her as a worthless retard, she can attach a sense of noble hurt pride to her "struggle".... it must be extremely validating.

That's kind of why it's a disorder. She doesn't "get" anything from it. The media attention was probably accidental. There's no understandable material gain from it. It's a psychological gain, where for reasons they feel really good with the feedback from being sick. Like a particular flavor of asspats.

One of my family members had some experience with a patient with this disorder in a hospital. The patient would do things pee in their IV bag or put their shit in their open wounds to keep themselves ill. I think it's pretty plausible with Amanda.

She gets an okay amount of notes for her posts about her "symptoms," so the small amount of sympathy is a nice bonus. Especially since none of them realize that someone essentially going under an anxiety attack would most likely not be filming themselves.

She was born in 1995 and was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2. She apparently learned how to type at around the age of 11 and started doing it regularly. In 2008, she got a lot of media attention and something she wrote was read by Ellen DeGeneres.

The thing is, Baggs started her schtick around 2007, and had apparently started claiming to have magic autism beans around 2000.

Fucking hell, has she so much as looked at an autistic person? And how does she expect people to believe she can live on her own if she's so retarded that boiling water supposedly takes hours? Pretending this isn't staged, it begs this question above all: if she has to think for a few minutes about how to stand up, how does she even realize that boiled water is needed?
 
I don't know exactly what's going on with her but this kind of reminds me of the Treva Throneberry case. If I had to guess she perhaps has a personality disorder, or muchenhausens or something like that. I really don't know what is going on, perhaps even something we hadn't thought of, but maybe she isn't really faking on purpose? Maybe there is something seriously wrong with her.

It is possible she has muchenhausens or some similar disorder, but even if she did she can still tell right from wrong. Baggs must realize what she is doing would at least be seen as horrible by people, and the false claims keep getting worse. Honestly I think it was overindulging parents and narcissism that lead her to still point in her life.

She's threatened legal action against people who have spoken out against her claims and provided proof, which sounds like someone who's knowingly trying to keep some skeletons in the closet.
 
Is it wrong that I have seen people way uglier than her?

Pretty much everyone has said something that I wanted to say or agree with. So I'm just going to ask what exactly is she doing for a living for her to live by herself?

Also, as other people have pointed out, she is simply acting a little bit "too perfect" to be autistic. She has videos of her acting a certain way, that most people who do act that way would have bewn hospitalized or taken cared of, and yet here she is living all by herself.

I'd love to see what happens if she actually tries to bring a lolsuit.

Considering the subject of it would be the legitimacy of her public claims about her alleged medical issues, pretty much nothing about them would remain private for long.

This is why I'm saying people are using "malingering" wrong. I don't think she's malingering, I think she's Munchausens/FD, which is a real disorder. It's not exactly "faking it on purpose" it's "feeling the compulsive need to make oneself sick". Malingering would be putting zero effort into faking IRL and just pretending online (like most of Tumblr). FD is like an elaborate roleplay irl which often involves making oneself actually sick.
 
I read through this whole thread and still don't understand why she constantly stresses that she's ~a sensing being, only a visitor to the world of words and ideas~ while using about 50 times the words per post of the average tumblr user.

Does she think it doesn't count unless you're saying it out loud? I get faking an inability to communicate verbally but she's claiming to basically have the intelligence of a farm animal while writing paragraph upon paragraph of fairly eloquent text. Just... ??????
 
Funny that she mentions looking like a cat, considering that she looks just like an exotic short-hair cat.
