I wish Alien 5 wasn't dead. Even though it would probably be a cashgrab, seeing the retconned survival of Newt and Hicks coupled with more Ripley badassery would be a million times better than a bunch of androids standing around sulkily monologuing about creation or other hackneyed "deep" shit.

I've heard the next movie planned is a prequel to Covenant.
That's a fuck-no since he's just an older Tim Burton now given his mancrush on Fassbender and how he only gives a shit about style. Even then, that should probably have been what he made anyway as a sequel to Prometheus anyway.

The Alien francise ended in 1986. I only bother with these new imposter movies because they're the only films with spaceships that cool-looking.

Same here. I really liked the hangar bay set in Covenant. It was a way more impressive take on the original Nostromo cargo bay set, with the big vehicles secured with a complicated network of metal chains. The hypersleep capsule racks and the bridge set were also pretty good, though I didn't like the design of all the corridors, as they were too generic sci-fi in style compared to those of the previous films.

Oh, the D9 guy's one is dead? Boo.

Bump because it's Alien Day (4/26 as in LV426 the planet from the first 2 movies).

I liked Covenant quite a bit. No idea what the internet hate machine targeted that one.

Like Prometheus, the problem is the Alien they shoe-horned in at the end.

Ridley just wants to make ponderous sci-fi movies about an evil robot with a god complex, but Hollywood won't greenlight his films unless he throws in Aliens. Its sad, really.

Dark Horse Comics is the true successor to Aliens fite me irl
Alright; the comics are actually worse than 3.

The happy ending from Aliens was ruined as hard if not worse than 3 if you REALLY think about it. Newt gets sent to the psych ward for years and drugged so badly her brain nearly broke. Hicks neglects and actually hurls abuse at her several times due to his own trauma. And Ripley fucks off for about 15 or so years.

This ignores the new trauma they had to deal with too, with Newt realizing and rejecting love with a robot whom she leaves to die. Oh, and also Earth is basically dead, and the Space Jockeys do climate change.

TBH Alien3 was kinder to those three than the comics, since at least they died in their own dreams or due to triumph.

yeah but Xeno-Zip

I'm cautiously optimistic but I know I'll just be hurt in the end
Same, cannot trust anything made today to be good. Didn't like Prometheus and Covenant for ruining the mystic of the xenomorphs but at the same time would be disappointed if they soft rebooted and didn't continue the storyline of the previous two.

The most funniest part of the trailer was when the britbong gone and went "There's somefin' inna wa'uh.". That was the most British way of saying "water" I've ever heard.

It's directed by the guy who made the Evil Dead remake and Don't Breathe. He's also a fan of the series. So we may not be completely fucked.

Serious question: has Ridley Scott made anything even sorta good since Gladiator?

Blackhawk Down and Matchstick Men came out after Gladiator (2001 and 2003), but since then, nothing. Unless you count The Counselor (2013) because it's so bad it's good, and has the hilarious and magical Cameron Diaz channeling her inner remora scene.
