On Wednesday, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled in favor of a motion to allow the state to execute Kenneth Smith with nitrogen hypoxia.

The use of nitrogen hypoxia as an execution method has never been tested. The gas has a history of being extremely deadly and could pose a threat to the staff and spiritual advisers present in the execution chamber.

Attorney General Steve Marshall posted a statement on X, formerly Twitter, after the court granted his motion to allow Alabama to use nitrogen hypoxia on Smith.

Alison Mollman, interim legal director of the ACLU of Alabama, made a statement denouncing the use of nitrogen hypoxia. Mollman stated that Marshall and Governor Kay Ivey could be putting the lives of staff, spiritual advisers, media, and victims at risk if they do not stop Smith’s execution.

Alabama previously tried to execute Smith last year but failed due to a botched lethal injection. Now, they are trying again, only with a method never tested before and could harm or kill others.

I think that other states should adopt nitrogen hypoxia , it gets rid of all the rigmarole of drug suppliers.

Nitrogen hypoxia (in theory) is probably the way I'd want to go.
Its painless and you dont even experience 'suffocation' You just keep breathing until your vision darkens then you go to sleep and never wake up.
Its just about the most humane pussyfoot way you could reliably execute someone.
Yeah, I remember an interview a few years ago with a woman who volunteered to help people who requested assisted suicide, and that group had rigged up a hood contraption that people could trigger on their own that just released nitrogen gas in the hood. Quick and painless.

Air that is 1.28% carbon monoxide causes unconsciousness in about 4 seconds and death in about 2 minutes. Let's do that
Ehh I don't know about that. Friend of mine died last week accidentally from carbon monoxide in some trailer he just bought. Turned out the 'winterized' trailer had a pellet stove that was badly installed, not properly ventilated and dangerous as fuck. Thing is he was one of the unlucky ones who got enough of a dose that it turned him a weird pink color and apparently he puked his guts out while semi or unconscious so it was pretty messy. Not that I give a shit what happens to prisoners being executed but the witnesses probably don't want to see that

That said, if anybody is planning to buy a winterized trailer or winterize their own, do it right, make sure the ventilation is sufficient and working properly and test everything to make sure its safe

You can't. It stretches after use and messes up the drop length tables. Aside from that though, you're dead on, and you could replace the rope with steel cable that has a padded noose section so it doesn't cut into the person's throat.
Thats why they should take a tip from the germans and hang them with piano wire instead

More than 1% carbon monoxide in your lungs is way more than you'll get from a not ventilated pellet stove in a trailer. It's poisonous af it doesn't take much

Nobody tell this guy how much nitrogen is in the atmosphere.

The reason they won't use CO is because in quantities sufficient to kill you quickly, it causes a panic-escape response, whereas in quantities that avoid that response, it doesn't act consistently enough to be used in an execution. Hypoxia has a predictable and sufficiently rapid effect, with none of the dramatics.

Also apparently carbon monoxide can travel through drywall, so just because something is in a different room from you doesn’t mean you’re safe.

Fuck firing squads, bullets are getting expensive. Find a rock you need two hands to lift; then find another one. Put the first rock down on solid ground, put your prisoner's head on the rock and drop the second one on his head. Pol Pot might have been a communist dictator, but he had some interesting ways to deal with undesirables; and you could sell it to the leftists as an organic, chemical-free, all natural execution.
Bro 5 guys with 30-06 bolt actions is like a buck a shot. That's only 5 bucks of tax dollars. We can do better than rocks

80% of the air we breathe is apparently deadly...... what a joke.

Nitrogen bonded to itself, N2, is one of the most stable compounds in the universe, it is practically inert.

To be fair, in context, he's talking about incidents where pure nitrogen leaked and displaced the oxygen in a confined space, killing or seriously injuring whoever was present in said confined space.

That doesn't mean that the author of the article is smart or right in whole. Some of the other stuff he said in the article was pretty stupid.

Why dont we just go back to hanging people, firing squads, electric chairs, etc there's tons of ways to kill people as history shows. We could even charge to watch people getting there heads cut off with a guillotine or something

Fox News Radio is reporting that the execution has been carried out. No other details yet. Good riddance.

That happened to someone near here in a trailer a bit over a week ago. It was posted in a local group. It didn't say what kind of heating or oven he had but his carbon monoxide detector wasn't working. Apparently he passed away peacefully in his sleep though.

Honestly, even if you live in a house with gas appliances you should make sure your detectors are working and don't be a nigger and make sure you change the batteries.

The Gestapo and NKVD each had their own unique way to blow peoples brains out with pistols. They should probably look into them. How could getting a 9mm lobotomy be as bad as getting poisoned? There has to be some fucked up people out there that need a steady paycheck that would do it.

You could always bring back the guillotine. It was one of the preferred methods of execution by the Nazis and the East Germans. No one had seen a guillotine in operation till the Nazis started using it again and the East Germans. The headsman is also a solution. If he likes you, he will make sure the axe is nice and sharp. Then there are old fashioned hangings.

The kind of childfuckers deserve a blunt axe. Your comment reminded me of Anne Boleyn saying had a little neck and would make the executioner's job easier.
On the eve of her execution, according to the Constable of the Tower, Anne joked “I heard say the executioner was very good, and I have a little neck” before putting her hands around it and laughing heartily.
