Update, 2:05 p.m.: The incident began with a confrontation in Millennium Plaza between Dalton Eatherly, aka “Chud the Builder,” and another man, according to District Attorney General Robert Nash.
One unnamed witness said the man punched Eatherly, and another said three to four shots were fired.
Nash said Eatherly was the one who opened fire, and Eatherly appears to have shot himself in the arm in the process. Eatherly was taken into custody and removed from the scene by ambulance. The victim was going to be flown by LifeFlight. His condition has not been released.
Eatherly has made a name for himself locally trying to get social media attention by taking video of himself using racial slurs against Black people, challenging them to fight back.
In November 2025, Eatherly claimed during at least one confrontation to be with the Clarksville Police Department. CPD responded with a statement on Facebook: “We want to make it clear that this type of behavior is not condoned, and the individual seen in the video is not affiliated with the Clarksville Police Department in any capacity. We take this matter seriously and are looking into it further. The Department will be seeking legal advice to determine what type of action, if any, can be taken. We also recognize and support the rights afforded to all citizens under the United States Constitution, including the First Amendment right to free speech.”

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Clarksville Police Department responded to shots fired outside of the Montgomery County Courthouse early Wednesday afternoon.
The shooting reportedly took place at around 1:15 p.m. The scene has been secured and there is no danger to the public, said MCSO spokesperson Lt. Bishop Delaney.
The courthouse was locked down when the shooting took place.
Both law enforcement agencies are at the scene of the shooting, where one person has been taken into custody, according to people at the scene.
Witnesses told Clarksville Now that it appeared two people were injured.

The Clarksville Now has updated their article reporting that the man he shot is in stable condition.
Eatherly was taken to Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital by ambulance for treatment. The victim was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was in stable condition Wednesday afternoon
