I can't even bear to read all of that. My first teaching gig was in an area with a lot of black kids and we happened to have a large number of students with sickle cell. All total in the 5 years I was there I had a total of three students affected. It was awful and I felt awful for them. Maybe you've heard about instances of public drunkenness in Japan up to the point of puking and/or passing out and wondered where they came from.
