Watching the trailer and it seems the callsign this time is Rex. So basically king? Are we getting a Mikail (antagonist pilot of AC7) story here? I know very VERY unlikely but would be kinda funny.

Just waiting for the missions were you get "Missile missile missile" warnings every bloody second like in AC7 during the Stonehenge defense. I hope it gets some slapping music as well.

For me I would love to see a remake of AC5 which imho was one of the best in terms of story telling and mission variety.

What the fuck.
A lady in a wheelchair but still serve in an army?
Call me crazy but even Assault Horizon isn't this bad when it comes with diversity. I can sense DEI money is definitely involved in the background of development.
"Wings of Theve" is making me wonder if Project Aces saw all the "Ghost of Kiev" stuff and decided to make a story around that. It's not a bad story hook.
Did they run out of ideas or just trying to keep it relatable with real world modern timeline?

naval patch says FCU NAVY: _____ AIR _____ SIX, I could only make out half of it, but maybe some of you guys will have better luck.
CARRIER AIR WING SIX you blind dwarf

Maybe they're just rewatching Battlestar Galactica like me.
I like the premise but putting a gibberish fantasy place in the title was a weird choice.

You just know they aren't using the F-35C because it's not as 'sexy' as Super Hornets
Probs cos there's no two seat variant and the story seems to start with us being a WSO.

Assault Horizon was shit in other ways, I don't even recall any "diversity" (in the sense of it being forced). Yeah I hope it's not too bad, I can only play AC7 and PW so many times and I'd hate to skip it on principle.

One can only hope PA is as committed to the worldbuilding as they say they are and she ends up being a penultimate bossfight in the Sotoan superplane using a COFFIN, since the AC timeline is now approaching AC3 where they had neurally-controlled jets.

But that would be very optimistic given the extent of thought put into worldbuilding in previous games, like Long Caster's italian bistro. However the Famitsu interview did state that PA were putting more thought into developing Sotoa and highlighting its very distinct culture and history from the FCU.

On that note, are there any good sources for third-party Osean decals? I picked up a MiG 1.44 kit some months back and got midway through assembly before I got stuck on how I wanted to paint it. Figure I might as well do it up in one of the Strangereal liveries or Varcolac.

GLORY TO BELKA. DEATH TO OSEA. HEIL THE FEDERATION. SudBelkaNotNordOsea. Triumph to the Grey Men, Long May They Ride. HEIL RALD. No quarter for mercenaries. ZOE. Remember 1995. Remember 2010. Kill the demon.
Ustio is an artificial concept. Recta more like Rectum. Gebet is not a country. Yo buddy you still alive?
What does FATO stand for? DEATH TO OSEA TWICE OVER. Living space. Rule the stars. White bird
white bird white bird. Oured will burn. Erusea is a puppet. Yuktobania is a puppet. Estovakia is a puppet. Sotoa is probably one of ours as well. There is no escape. Where is your Razgriz now? HARLING IS DEAD BY THE HANDS OF TRUE PATRIOTS.
No collaborators. 8492. General Reources. Neucom. BELKA WILL HAVE JUSTICE. Nemo is coming. Century of annihilation.

ZERO.

Is it gonna work on the Steam Machine that way I don't have to wait like 5 years to have a computer that can play it like I did with 7?

Just wanted to add: i hope that in AC8 my teammates actually do SOMETHING for a change and not just be basic props I can't even command despite being the Squadron leader at one point. I mean in AC5 I at least have teammates that shoot down enemies once in a while and I can actually give orders.

Crossposting from the vtuber thread, turns out we actually knew AC8 would be set on an Essex class carrier last year when one of them did a tour of the USS Essex and asked one of the museum staff if he liked Ace Combat. He divulged that PA came to the Hornet to do 3D scanning "a while back" before December 2024. But then he also nodded when she asked if it was recent, so it's a bit fuzzy on when the scanning occurred - presumably when the museum was closed to the public.

It turns out she got the inside scoop that AC8 would be set on an Essex class carrier during her 'visit' to the USS Hornet. Pipkin could never.

I actually booted up AC5 in an emulator recently cause I had a notion and wanted to test it. I wanted to see just how much I could get my wingmen to do without me directly engaging targets myself. When I tried and really focused on what my wingmen were doing, they would shoot down one or two or three targets then their A.I. would basically turn off and they'd just fly around in random walks shooting missiles at nothing, miles away from the action. I know there was only so much that they could do back on the PS2, but that was still disappointing to see how lame the A.I. really was when you weren't just focusing on getting the kills yourself.

From my expeirence the AC5 AI seems still to be the "best" out there. I mean what does the AI actually do in AC7? I have never seen them shoot down a plane or blow up a tank as those tasks usually seem to be handed to the player only (though I swear I see the point ticker tick upwards in the "Achieve X points in x minutes" missions even when I didn't do anything)

AC6 was the only one I’ve played with functioning wingmen. I hope that comes back for this one.

I’m with the group that’s concerned about the DEI red flags. Not as concerned as I would be if it were a western franchise, but concerned nonetheless.

I've heard that the wingmen and enemies have better AI in the DLC missions for 7 but I haven't noticed anything that significant, they certainly aren't doing much to help reach the score target in Anchorhead Raid.

The damage done by NPC companions are severely toned down in the main campaign. Ergo, if you aren't shooting the planes/target down then they're not gong down, period.

Funny enough, the exception to this are the three DLC campaigns. You really notice the increased lethality of your supposed wingmen there as enemy aircrafts and targets do disappear before you can get to them. It's not a lot but at least they aren't sitting on their ass waiting for Trigger to bail them out.
