There is no way they would use Iris except to kill her off. Doing anything else with her risks pissing off the fujoshits.

It's a shame she's probably never going to return to the series. I don't care about shipping, but I liked her. She could've had an interesting relationship with her remaining family, Pearl and Maya.

Plus, I don't think they would've paired her with Phoenix since Ace Attorney doesn't do romance anyway.

I think the closest thing Ace Attorney did with romance is Gumshoe and Maggey.

Oh, but Pearls is adorable. I wouldn't want to see her die. I do wish they would have matured her character (and also Maya) more in SoJ, but maybe they were afraid of a fan backlash after how they changed Ema Skye in AJ. I liked what they did with Ema and it made sense for her character at the time. I mean, they can't stay children forever unless it's The Simpsons and we all know how stale that show is.

It's probably that eastern style of writing, but by DD and SoJ it feels weird to see Pearl and Trucy still acting like little children. Aren't they like 17 or 18 by then?

This is considered to be very likeable in Japan, actually. Teenage girls acting 'cute' and childlike is encouraged because it's endearing to people. It's also reflective of Japan's weird sexist view on age for women (for example, 25+ yo single women are shamed and considered too old to date).

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, though, since Ace Attorney treats many of their adult female characters just fine (esp Maya and Ema). Maybe they just can't quite let go of how adorable Pearl is, so they don't really want her to grow up (which is reflective in her character design).

Funny that you mention this, because this is precisely the sort of mentality Dahlia showcases towards Mia in Trials and Tribulations as early as in Turnabout Memories.

So it's interesting to see this implied cultural contrast between Mia and Pearl even outside the games themselves. And Mia wasn't even that old in this case, she was only five years older than Dahlia at 25-years-old.​

I remember her calling Mia a spinster, too! Pretty evil, considering she was responsible for Mia's bf being out of the picture.

The only reason Maya and Phoenix aren't together is due to the blight on humanity that is fujoshi.

The series director/writer literally mocks this ship through Pearl. They were never written as anything but friends, ever.

Even the most ardent retard should catch onto this by the third game, where Phoenix is pining for his ex, with extremely overt romantic flags that were never displayed towards Maya (or anyone else), and Maya does not give a single fuck but instead makes jokes about Phoenix having a crush.
 
Replaying the original trilogy in time for Investigations. I forgot how “simplistic” the writing is for the first game. It’s still great ofc, but the jump in complexity from Turnabout Goodbyes to Rise from the Ashes is very noticeable.

And also, Will Powers is not that ugly, he looks like Wolverine.
 
Will is interesting. Don't ask me why but I can hear John C Reilly voicing him.

Also speaking of Rise from the Ashes....I do find it depressing that they completely disregard Lana Skye and Angel Starr in subsequent installments. Angel would have been perfection in the Investigations series.

I'm sure Ace Attorney 7 is still coming. It's for the best that they take their time with it this go around, considering how burnt out the developers got on Dual Destinies/Spirit of Justice. Besides, if Capcom truly didn't give a shit, they would've just released ace attorney investigations by itself and not translate the other game.
