For those unaware, Pirate Software is the son of Joeyray Hall; ex-Blizzard dev for 23 years. The reason "Thor" even has game dev experience is because his dad got him a QA job for WoW for a bit. His entire background and logic is built on nepotism and a game model that depends upon server uplink. So when you have insight into his background, you now know why the fucker takes Ross and his campaign personal.
Wasnt he also a mod or gm (whatever they're called) in WoW too? Damn janny scum.

Weird how things work, huh?

Also, apparently "Thor" commissioned a minor to make a NSFW furry avatar for Second Life. If someone else wants to look into this, go ahead. I need to move concrete slabs. That sucked shit. Anyway, here's possible proof.

Meanwhile, gamedevs that according to piratesoftware will be most affected making supportive statements about the campaign on xitter. Curious.

Any developer who would be okay with their game being lost forever because it would be "too hard" to release server code or make a single player component that can be played offline is not really a dev and should not be listened to.

It just kills me that this retard styles himself as a 1337 haxxor, he goes to HACKING CONS!!!! And then sucks the cock of some of the worst business practices in existence. And the wholesome chungus fake deep voice.

He has a good mix of deadpan humor and utter bewilderment that makes Game Dungeons entertaining. Like the moment in Fahrenheit where the narrative goes off the rails and the main character starts doing superhero moves as he runs from the police, he doesn't even question it at all until a few minutes later when he basically says, "hey wait a minute, what the fuck happened?" Or how he describes the opening area of Rama as being your typical sci-fi environment, listing off the various things rapid-fire, then casually mentions the nuclear bomb off to one corner like it's no big deal. Phantasmagoria 2 is probably my favorite episode because it's full of both of those, from casually observing Curtis going through his day with all the bizarre shit that happens to him, to being dumbfounded by Sierra adventure game logic that won't let Curtis finish his damn paper unless he does a bunch of unrelated stuff first.
That's a part of it. You can never know what to expect from a review by him, sometimes he goes more in depth than anyone else without needing 5+ hours (his Deus Ex reviews), sometimes it's just comfortable anecdotes (The Crew), sometimes it's standard game + plot summation. It makes every video unique.

Gaming might very well be the most incestuous media type in existence. Both AAA and Indies dominate social media and god forbid you don't fall inline.

I'm not particularly surprised by the bad take from an Ex-Blizzard developer
I kinda am, because thats a seriously AWFUL take.

I'm kinda surprised BOTH linus and running with scissors are pushing this, but some furry nepo baby isn't. Logically speaking, linus AND rws would have bigger personal motivation to be against it.

This just shows even more how the guy who got a stick up his ass about how it would "kill the industry" is full of shit.

RWS supporting the petition isn't that surprising since a possible pro-gamer ruling wouldn't force them to change anything as their games are fully playable offline and the studio has always had this against-the-grain, almost contrarian bent to it. It'd be on brand for them to side with the gamers on this one.

Also one of the earlier quests in Postal 2 is about soliciting signatures for a petition.

RWS has never released a game with a permanent, crippling online component, they have 0 incentive to be against this and gain some goodwill from loudly supporting it.

I can't stop laughing while watching Ross' FAQ video without laughing because it looks like he took me hostage.
RWS are on board when it's other devs fixing games, but they won't fix their own fucking games. This is them going "guys we're cool we swear! see we agree with the thing!"
Couple things. First, that pissbrain retard needs to actual say what needs to be fixed. Just complaining that "postal 2 am broken" without saying what is broken or how makes you look like a massive bitch and should be told to fuck off. Maybe it's because I'm a Linux user, so hearing whiny faggots complain about shit not working without giving details boils my piss, but I'd probably start telling those people to suck me good and hard through my jorts after enough time. Likewise, saying "stop putting effort into your new project so you can keep working on this decades old game" like they hadn't spent years working on it as penance for Postal 3 is just ignorance. Lastly, like I said, RWS has gone past and updated/fixed Postal 2. For fuck sakes, they literally had an update on the game's 20th anniversary to make the game fully compatible on the Steam Deck, added the original VA for Claptrap to the Pisstraps, added a new difficulty, backported expansion content into the base game, and tons of other shit. So, yeah, that dude on twitter should be told to suck dick because he/she/it probably likes it.

Also, completely ignoring that the initiative is about giving the consumers the ability to keep enjoying the game after developers stop supporting it. And the community has kept supporting the game with the xPatch that RWS has folded into Postal 2 as part of that 20th anniversary update that added dozens of other things. You can say "oh, the consumers are doing RWS work", but I would see it as developers working with their community to improve the product so all parties have a better product.

Nah, dude has a point. Devs releasing broken games and expecting the userbase to fix it for them is not as destructive but is cynical, exploitative and only worsens the gaming sphere. While RWS supporting the movement is nice, my immediate thought was also that the last game that they released was an unfinished pile of shit. Not being able to access the game doesn't matter if it is dependent on other people (or the devs) actually finishing it the months following the release.

Again, the issue at hand has nothing to do with games being "finished" but "being able to be played long after the developers are done supporting them". Yes, Postal 4 has it's issues. It also got an update literally yesterday with the goal of addressing the main complaint of optimisation. Also, again: Postal 2 is two decades old. The fact they updated the game at all is more than what many other developers are willing to do.

Figured I'd share this comment RWS made on the video

Thanks for the shout out! We feel obliged to explain our position now, and why we care about what is going on here.

We’re just an indie dev with no ‘live service’ plans, but we are a publisher and developer that have worked to keep our own games playable for literally decades at this point - even if it’s not in our best business interests, hence why we wholeheartedly support this initiative. In the unlikely event we did end up with a live service game, there would be an end of life plan built into it - if nothing else but so that our own developers, that would have spent years working on it, would not see their work just vanish one day.

For our part, as long as we are around we endeavor to keep our games playable, at the very least on PC. We’re not perfect, but we do try ,given our limited means as a truly independent studio. Here is our (obviously written with our own bias) track record:

POSTAL (1997) - We no longer update this game, so we made it open source and made it free. We have in the past rolled community updates into the base game, and will always try to make sure it survives any OS version updates. But if the time comes we’re not around, at least the source is out there for anyone interested to fix it up, should some OS update breaks it.

POSTAL 2 (2003) and its DLC Paradise Lost (2015) - We sell and even update this game to this day. We’ve had to fight to keep it working during Windows and Linux updates. Sadly, Mac support is no longer that easy due to them dropping 32-bit support, although we did make a serious effort to try and get it sorted. We can’t release the source code because Unreal Engine 2 is not open source, which is a shame. The Mac situation bothers us though, so hopefully we can work that out one day. It was sold to Mac users, so they should still be able to play it, regardless of the paradigm shift Apple introduced with their hardware and software. Postal III (2011) - Not a game we developed or published, but we fought hard to get the game working again on Steam after the DRM servers went down (that we never agreed should have been a thing in the first place). We didn’t profit from that, it was just the right thing to try and do for those that paid for the game, and thankfully it worked out.

POSTAL Redux (2016) - It’s come to our attention that there is a generation of CPU’s the game now crashes on due to it’s very old Unreal 4 version, so we’re currently looking into fixing that by updating the engine version, but it’s turned out to be more complex than we thought so it’ll be a while. This game is not a massive seller for us to be honest, but we can’t ignore the inconvenience for those it affects.

POSTAL 4 (2022) - Still very much working on this game, about to add co-op, and soon workshop/modding support. Thankfully Epic does allow the source code sharing of Unreal 4 and 5 games, unlike Unreal 2, so once the workshop is out, it’ll be safe in the community's hands should we ever fold. And we’re looking to make sure that the servers for co-op can be maintained as long as anyone wants them to be.

Anyway, to anyone that made it this far, thanks for reading. We just figured it was worth explaining why we’re supporting this cause - it’s because our own game preservation is important to us, and therefore understand why overall game preservation is vital.

We obviously do care about money and paying the bills so we can keep supporting our devs, but we also care about the community - so we take the L in some situations financially, in order to look after those that help get us here.

Best of luck in your endeavors Ross! And those supporting him!

i just want a new game dungeon man
It's in the works. Ross just wanted to get his FAQ out because that fucking furfag Jason decided to just go on the internet and tell lies.

Everyone's just gotta keep banging the drum. This is it when it comes to anything related to this increasingly tiresome issue.
