It's been said before, but what do you want them to do? She's an adult, and not fucked up enough to be commited. They could kick her out, but that wouldn't help her since its a mental issue, not drug abuse. Idk what Pennsylvania law is regarding mentally ill adult family members, but what I do know is that Abby NEEDS structure and stability in her life. She needs someone to watch her, like an at-home caretaker some special needs kids have. I’ve said it a million times before, but Abby can take all the meds and see all the doctors, and neither of those will do shit as long as she lives with her parents.

Kathy and Bill have money. If they can’t force Abby into a treatment program they should consider placing her in a group home or hiring a couple caretakers who can keep an eye on her 24/7.

I suspect Kathy has done her share of screaming at her, and Abby “blacked out” and beat her for it. I know she claims not to be borderline, but like a typical borderline, when someone pushes back, they always go one step further. Abby has admitted that she hit her parents in the past. Kathy is at an age where a punch could do some major damage. Physical abuse combined with suicide threats when she doesn’t get what she wants and history of “cutting”, I’m sure her parents feel like hostages in a way.

She is not disabled/mentally ill enough to force her into a group home against her will.

She would probably end up in one anyway if the Brown’s actually kicked her out.

Here's some workable solutions:
Admit to yourself that your adopted daughter is too unstable and your behavior is toxic and contributes to it.
Fix this by doing the hardest thing most parents end up doing with hard core addicts. Cut Abby off. Permanently.
Again, this is HARD. But sometimes necessary to save someone's life and sanity.
Abby needs to live possibly in a group home setting or move out of state AWAY from her enabling parents and from Will.
This is a HARD decision, but sometimes letting go is the most unselfish and caring way to solve problems like this.

The adoptive parents have demonstrated time and time again they are NOT willing to do the hard thing and set healthy boundaries. This is toxic and they need to let Abby go. Because people like Abby NEVER make it to old age. She is that unwell.

Iirc the criteria for being committed to a group home varies in the US since they’re all privately owned. Some focus on cognitive disabilities while others focus on personality disorders.

I was thinking the same thing! Unless the store is under entirely new management or her parents found a loony loophole to shuffle her through, there is no way in hell any store would rehire an employee that was as combative and destructive as she claimed she was acting. She bragged about stomping off in a rage quit tantrum and then setting her work shirt on fire in the store parking lot. Now, I’m a little skeptical of the shirt burnery, but if she actually did do that, I’d be shocked if she wasn’t at least banned from ever setting foot on the property again.

Maybe her parents went in with a big sob story about their poor little crazy girl and how she just desperately needs some tie to normalcy, and how they're adjusting her meds again so she'll definitely be normal this time, and how if she doesn't have a job to give her some security she'll end up killing herself or some shit.

I've worked at plenty of places where people should have been fired years ago but weren't, or they quit under terrible circumstances and came back. And almost none of them had the excuse of being mentally ill, just assholes and bad workers.
