Call your Kokiri cousins and blow the Ocarina of Time, because the internet just exploded with Triforce-sized hype. In what may go down as one of the most deliciously nerdy casting rumors of the decade, Hunter Schafer the ethereal, otherworldly star of Euphoria, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and the upcoming Blade Runner 2099 series is reportedly being eyed to play Princess Zelda in the long-awaited Legend of Zelda live-action film.
That’s right. The rumored casting was dropped by industry insider Daniel Richtman, and while he’s been a bit of a Gossip Stone in the past (some hits, some misses), this time? Fans are hoping it’s the real deal. The rumor was first spotlighted by Screen Time, and now every enchanted bottle in the fandom is rattling with excitement.

“She Looks Just Like Zelda”: The Tweets That Summoned the Goddesses

Within minutes of the rumor hitting social media, Twitter turned into Hyrule Town Square. The people did not just react. They transformed into sages of validation.
“She looks just like Zelda that’s actually perfect,” one fan tweeted, probably while clutching their Master Sword in joy.
“I swear to God if they cast a man as princess Zelda I will riot,” another declared, invoking the wrath of Din herself.
“Literally the most perfect candidate but they won’t want her to play Zelda,” lamented a prophet of fan-casting history.
“Please lord almighty I hate the idea of live action Zelda but she would actually save the movie,” one fan admitted with honesty we rarely see on the timeline.
“I do not care what a bunch of phobic assholes have to say, she literally looks like Zelda and would be perfect,” wrote another, defending their queen like a true member of the Sheikah tribe.
“The comments are making me so mad she literally is Zelda. Like she looks exactly like I’d imagine Zelda looking IRL,” someone else echoed, probably shouting it at the Moon.
“If Zelda is played by a trans woman, I will be so, so happy,” said another tweet that’s now being embroidered on tunics across the fandom.

Zelda Movie Is Real, And It’s Already a Cultural Event

Let’s not forget. Nintendo officially confirmed the Legend of Zelda live-action movie in 2023 in collaboration with Sony Pictures. It is being produced by Avi Arad, the man behind the Spider-Man and Uncharted movies, and it is already facing massive pressure to get casting right.
No official casting announcements have been made yet, but we know that the studio is reportedly seeking a younger actor for Link, with Walker Scobell (of The Adam Project and Percy Jackson) being the type they are circling like a Poe in a graveyard. Meanwhile, Tom Holland’s name remains on everyone’s lips for reasons that defy logic, gravity, and possibly good taste.
But Schafer as Zelda? This is a casting that makes sense both narratively and visually. She’s got the ethereal beauty, the royal poise, and the kind of quiet magical energy that makes you believe she could literally shatter a Moblin with one glance.

Schafer’s Resume Is Already Hyrule-Ready

Let’s not kid ourselves. Hunter Schafer has range. She’s already brought nuance and mysticism to roles in Euphoria and Hunger Games. And with the Blade Runner universe on her horizon, she’s proving she can handle high-concept genre storytelling with ease.

“This is Miyamoto,” wrote Miyamoto.
I was going to ask why he felt a need to state that but I see he's posting from the Nintendo account.

Which makes it funnier that he opened his statement like a hostage with a gun to their head, "my name is Miyamoto and I am making this casting decision of my own free will."

A lot of people were roped into this delusion. And while it's easy to quickly dismiss it as the hopes of non-gamer tourists who wanted this solely to make progressive points, I think the reality is a lot less conspiratorial.
TLOZ isn't some obscure find; it's practically as famous as Mario, especially after BOTW increased the fanbase tenfold. I don't find it any stretch of the imagination to consider the vast majority of those clamoring for that outcome were actually people who like Zelda.
I really think people were genuinely thinking Schäfer was actually a good fit, based solely on select edited photographs, particularly a single one that if you look at the news post from Nintendo you will see plastered all through the replies (and has been posted several times in this thread). They thought he was perfect (despite being too old for the role) and even if you pointed out that the photographs were edited they'd retort back that editing appearances is exactly what the movie industry is all about, and after years of gaslighting themselves into thinking he was the only choice, the only reason to shatter that worldview would be purely transphobia.
There's a few shit-stirrers in there, and a few disingenuous envelope-pushers, but far and wide it was just a case of being stuck in a false reality.

All-in-all I think the funniest part of it was the insistence on casting him as Zelda because he supposedly looked like the Twilight Princess Zelda, whose role took a significant backseat to Midna, and whose design was only used in that one game of the series, and is probably the least iconic Zelda unless you were just really attached to the WiiU/3DS/Brawl versions of Super Smash Bros.

He wanted to make sure we knew it wasn’t actually Clyde Cash this time.

He's on brand, he's always been pretty spergy. The most relaxed on camera he ever was was for the Japanese Nintendo World promotion, and he was a sperg then too. He's definitely a clunky writer though.

So it was all worrying over nothing and the trannies will rage about ‘discrimination’ over their he/she never even being considered? Oh boy!

I'm not well versed in The Last of Us, but isn't Ellie supposed to be special in some way? Bella Ramsey definitely looks "special". Not quite Down's syndrome - maybe FAS?

I dunno I never played it just watched some YouTubers one time but I think she’s pretty much just a kid who’s weird from growing up in an apocalypse not ‘special’. Oh and she might be the way to find a vaccine against the whole fungus that destroyed society. She’s pretty much just another Ellen Page expy that video games used quite a bit back then, outside the one that literally used her.

"So lets let her become a lesbian, let her wander around outside and take point in dangerous missions, never encourage her to breed, and let her go on a roaring rampage of revenge against the genderspecial that killed her father figure." ~ Liberal video game developers.

Troons on suicide watch because a multinational corporation didn't want to self-sabotage by casting an obvious troon in a movie they intend to market in China. I can't believe how easily these retards fell for obvious astroturfing on the part of Honter's PR people. He attempted to play a non-troon teenager in a recent movie called Cuckoo and he single-handedly ruined it because of how miscast he was, on top of his performance just sucking in general. I have to believe the people pushing for Honter as Zelda either didn't see what a trainwreck he was in Cuckoo, or have personal biases in his favor (i.e., they're chasers, future troons, or troons themselves).
