Indeed, I know nobody in their right minds was actually watching Euphoria and I only have the misfortune of knowing this because it made the rounds on TERF tumblr, but you can see his normal male body in plenty of scenes. It likely started as many gay internet rumors do-some troon on Reddit probably asked "hey wouldn't it be totally heckin wholesome and valid if a T girl were cast as Zelda?" and from there it just snowballed and in the grip of their hubris and delusion, trannies came to believe that Nintendo would hear their prayers and oblige them.

TLOZ isn't some obscure find; it's practically as famous as Mario, especially after BOTW increased the fanbase tenfold. I don't find it any stretch of the imagination to consider the vast majority of those clamoring for that outcome were actually people who like Zelda.
I really think people were genuinely thinking Schäfer was actually a good fit, based solely on select edited photographs, particularly a single one that if you look at the news post from Nintendo you will see plastered all through the replies (and has been posted several times in this thread). They thought he was perfect (despite being too old for the role) and even if you pointed out that the photographs were edited they'd retort back that editing appearances is exactly what the movie industry is all about, and after years of gaslighting themselves into thinking he was the only choice, the only reason to shatter that worldview would be purely transphobia.
There's a few shit-stirrers in there, and a few disingenuous envelope-pushers, but far and wide it was just a case of being stuck in a false reality.

All-in-all I think the funniest part of it was the insistence on casting him as Zelda because he supposedly looked like the Twilight Princess Zelda, whose role took a significant backseat to Midna, and whose design was only used in that one game of the series, and is probably the least iconic Zelda unless you were just really attached to the WiiU/3DS/Brawl versions of Super Smash Bros.

The other thing about troons is that with photos and filters is that even if you bought into "that's a good Zelda cosplay" grift that gets shattered when they start walking around because troons, even if they've been a "girl" their whole life, don't carry themselves like women. They will have a gait like a normal man (obvious tell) or a gait like a drag queen (obvious tell). There is no in-between.
