One of the worst takes I've ever read on this forum. This is the rhetoric they hammered into the people of South Korea after the Korean War and they now work 16 hour days and live in a anarcho-capitalist hell hole.
Imagine using the threat of "you'll get replaced with jeets" to try and make people accept worse working conditions. You work to live, you do not live to work. And don't give me that 'game devs are all woke and deserve it' shit because that's a shitty tactic to make people not care.
You're inputting code not carrying slabs of stone while building a 3 storey house. And paid more for that too.
You're recording lines not chopping down trees in a forest. And paid more for that too.
You're shifting pixels for marketing not working the mines. And paid more for that too.
Your job is secure if you're not replaceable. People who want unions are replaceable.
How soft are you? Next you're going to tell me accounting, hr need unions cause stress.
You get into a creative job for the passion of it. Film editors don't need a union yet they have one (you're in a dark room hours on end). Screenwriters don't need a union yet they have one (my laptop is soooo heavy I could injure my wrist and lose my job! I need this union). Actors don't need a union yet they have one. (Oh man these lines are more difficult than driving a forklift)
Creative/static jobs don't need a union.
Shit needs to get done. Take it up with management that promises unreasonable deadlines to ensure contracts. Talented vfx studios are scared to lose a Disney contract so they agree to terrible deadlines that cause unions.
It wasn't an issue with the first 3 movies but the 4th one really put a nail in the coffin. Lol. You don't need to work at weta or rockstar if you can't handle it. Work at hello games or jellyfish pictures.
Every union I've worked for rewarded the "tenured" and punished the "new fish".
"Well I've earned it!" Is the attitude of the common union worker who barely does anything because they worked for years and years and years and lost the drive but love the pay cheque. Everyone else has to pick up the slack.
You can always quit for better working conditions if you can't handle it. Don't demand better working conditions. Find a job where you can have those things until it gets big and contracts roll on in, and money begins to flow and an 8 hour day becomes a 16 hour day.
I really don't understand idiots who go into a field that they thought was cool, got some hands on experience and thought that a union would make it better. For most of these you need to have gone to a creative college and creative colleges usually line up all the projects together. You experience a modicum of crunch time. If you did all the work with a smile on your face you can handle the big leagues. If you complained that it's late and you need sleep, you can't.
As for the woke aspect... Lol. Lazy replaceable people want unions. That's not woke. That's just being soft and preserving something you don't deserve.
None of this would be an issue if people didn't settle for their jobs when they didn't like the first few years of it but liked they pay cheque.
If you got hired at one of the biggest studios and the working conditions are abysmal to your standards you have the golden ticket to work for any slightly lesser studio.
