Part of my brain wants me to find the next 4chan, but when I actually go looking it's like the entire internet is full of mentally stunted manchildren and the only sane choice is to not really spend time online anymore.
Funny how I lived through the entire "internet era" from dialup usenet forums to the algorithm-driven gigasites, including the scant two decades or so when it was useful and good. I feel like an old man yelling at the clouds for telling people about things that happened in the 2000s, like not giving your entire life, IRL name, address and everything on registering to a site. All the funny shit, the joy of discovery, the cool discussion places., the hidden little forums each with their own unique culture are all fucking gone. It is the age of the slop and the doomscroll now and I'm left chasing a dragon that the zoomies did not even know that it existed.

I feel ya on this. I was just thinking about how I miss the sound of a dialup modem to get on the net. Back then, if you heard that, you knew something magical was happening (as a kid anyway). For a brief minute, you could hear what it sounded like inside the network. Of course, the fastest connection I had growing up was an old 14k system until 56k came out. Once that happened, I thought the connection was fast…then DSL and Cable came out. That shattered my sense of reality because the speed with which things loaded and downloaded was amazing. Or so I thought. The fastest connection I’ve ever experienced was on a Verizon 5GUW connection when I visited America a few years ago. I saw 3GBPs on my fucking phone. 3GBPs. I stood in silence for a good five minutes trying to wrap my head around numbers like that on a handheld device with no connections to a fucking modem that was plugged into a wall socket.
Zoomers and the generations that come after them will never understand the significance of the technology they hold in their hands every day. They will never know what life was like before any of this tech existed. Those of us who were born during the Cold War era got to witness the leap in tech. Not old enough to be GenX, too old to be a true Millennial. We are feral like Gen X was, but we are more tech savvy than anyone born after 1992. The net was the Wild West for us. Between IRC channels and very basic forums, we could discuss and get info about anything we wanted. Information wasn’t curated and pruned to meet any standards, and the net wasn’t censored by big tech to control narratives. We were the first and the last generation to know what true freedom on the net looked and felt like. We have also watched it be stripped away from us by corporate interests.
I remember 4chan for what it used to be, not what it became. Once the younger kids came in and started fucking everything about it up with unfunny jokes and fucked political ideologies…it went to hell. At the conclusion of Project Chanology, I stepped away. It was around then that it started to go full retard. It’s a shame that 4chan will never came back as it once was. It would be best if 4chan just burned out and faded away at this point because it’s a rotted out shell of what it used to be.
I don't understand why the S/AGDQ threads still draw in this many people. Those events have been taken over by trannies for years now so why would anyone pay any attention this garbage ?

I suppose that's ok, but that must run its course quite quickly no ? There are trannies everywhere, with the same "Trans rights" message every run. The cringe has been part of it for years, same with reminiscing about the past and I don't even know if there are any good runs happening at all at GDQ. There must be a point of diminishing returns with this.
Not saying you can't have fun with it, but year after year, and I am just done with this shit. I watch RTA in Japan and apart from that I stopped caring about speed runs even though I liked them in the past.
Late night scheduled runs can often feel like old GDQ, but a lot of the fun is just watching an online event with other anons. Seeing a thread melt down when one of the absolute disgusting troons appears on screen is amusing to me. When it comes to events where speedrunning is the focus ESA is usually pretty great if you can stand autistic european accents.

The ban request was ignored and I got straight back to posting. The new janitors are as pathetic and corrupt as they always are, but more importantly, they are as powerless as always.

I don't mind since these dumb motherfuckers are easy to scam and make money off of. If you're just going to despair over what was lost you're going to be miserable, all these newbies that don't know better are a golden opportunity and that's the silver lining here. Old internet isn't coming back and nu-internet sucks, nothing more to it, but nothing lasts forever, plenty of online games I would like to play again or IRL events I would want to attend again or communities I would like to reconcile with. I can't have them back, so I just appreciate what is still there, and enjoy knowing how much better I have it than these dumbfucks now who willingly dox themselves and then get surprised when some petty psycho ruins their life.
Zoomers genuinely cannot understand how life functions without a smartphone anymore. I had the misfortune of having to converse with some of them before, and when I told them we didn't have internet like this on our phones when I was their age and we had to use the computer to access it, they just gave me the flouride stare. Then I dropped the bombshell on them that I haven't used a phone in 15 years(not true, I still have to use a phone for work but I hate it) and called them morons who can't live without their little toys, which send them into impotent, soyelent fueled zoomie rage. I think this is why most of us here have some appreciation for technology, since it didn't come freely to us, we had to learn how to use it and then evolve with time. These were not all large forums and compared to the modern internet they were nothing. There were entire threads of praise-filled conversation coming from a single IP. When called out, they claimed that it was simply the employees of a shill firm shilling in their free time and had nothing to do with the company itself. My guess is that they've become somewhat more sophisticated in the last 20 years. In 2004 they learned not to say the quiet part out loud and quickly deleted mentions of their shill gruppe. There's long been accusations on 4chan directed at them, mainly on /v/, after they picked up some high level clients like Ubisoft. Internet shilling and bot use are basically normalized now. 4chan has been raped, but it's still a well-known name. The cost vs. potential gain of saturating the internet with marketing bots leans heavily towards gain. Universal Pictures is not a company that needs to carefully allocate their 3 New Delhi shack dwellers.
