May as well talk about more bizarre 3D platformers.
You know what is a weird combination - a 3D platformer mixed with Horror. Given that most 3D platformers are aimed at children, you don't really see this combo come up too often, which is incredibly weird given the indie boom for both.
That is why I want to mention American McGee's Alice into Madness as a good recommendation to add to any Steam, PS3 or XBOX 360 library. While the first game was a Doom clone, this follow-up is a combination of hack-and-slash and 3D platformer with a gorgeous Tim Burton type style and a decent story that goes into mental health. Funny how this came out around the same time as Tim's Alice remake, yet is arguably a much better Burton Alice in the Wonderland then the one made by Burton.
In terms of flaws, will warn that levels can get to be a bit long in this title. The story, while starts strong, also kind of tetters into weird territory by the end (
Child Rape and exploitation). In addition, the hair physics can get a little wild.
As an aside, I remember seeing an in development Cinderella game taking inspiration from Madness Returns, but cannot seem to find it. Would be nice to see another game in this vein as McGee has pretty much given up on getting EA to greenlight a 3rd entry or even start a new IP with Wizard of Oz.
