They are are arguing in bad faith. They know Trump meant that him being involved is the hoax but they are deliberately misinterpreting it due to them being deranged retards (left wingers).

The Epstein stuff only got dragged out again a few years ago by a journalist attempting to use it to smear Trump. So it makes perfect sense for Trump to call it a hoax meant to smear him. From his perspective, Epstein was a random weirdo he wrote off years ago who already went to trial for his crimes and he has no idea why people are still talking about it.

We're not talking about some random old man in a retirement home, who has checked out on the world and is completely alone, but about the president of the United States.

The president has spent months making insane and suspicious comments about his association with Epstein and the nature of the Epstein files, comments that contradict claims made by his own family and close associates like JD Vance during the election season. He cared enough to have his personal lawyer interview Ghislaine Maxwell and put her into a nicer prison in return for her saying on the record that she never saw anyone molest children (apparently a silver bullet that completely exonerates Trump somehow). Trump also made very sympathetic remarks about Maxwell after she was arrested for child sex trafficking and other crimes back in the day.
The way he talks about the Epsteins it sounds like he really couldn't give less of a shit about what they did with children, it's all about whether they were nice to him or not. He doesn't dislike Epstein because he raped children, but because he poached children working at Trump's spa. Maxwell was always nice to him, so he bears her no ill will at all.
It's incredibly difficult for him to maintain the line that these are bad people who did bad things, which is baffling to any normal person. Surely child rapists are easy to condemn? Not for Trump, which absolutely says something about him.

And now we've had months of current government figures lying about the Epstein files and Trump's association with Epstein on top of that. Like today Speaker Johnson admitted that he lied about Trump having been an FBI informant.
It's a clowncar of incompetence and corruption on every level, and lies piled on top of lies.
 
Has there ever been a satisfactory, non-partisan reason why the intelligence departments had “the files” but never released them 2021-2024?

Probably the same reason the Trump admin initially gave when they got pushback on the files. Basically a mix of protecting the elite and not wanting to cause political and social upheaval. Lots of powerful people are associated with epstein from all over the world. Especially the sacred child Isreal. While Isreal would be fine as the country loves pedophiles, it would definitely cause issues for the US and maybe the UK.

Protection of victim privacy and Maxwell's ongoing appeal of her sentence. Some files started to get released in 2024.
