This was my thought process at first, but I thought about it more. There have been plenty of movies that starred black protagonists that were successful. Black Panther, Jordan Peele's recent filmography, 12 Years a Slave, all these movies were successful financially and in some cases critically. Go back further and you can find more movies such as Men in Black, Blade, and the entire blaxploitation genre of the 70s.I ask this question again:
Instead of just transforming old stuff and pissing people off, why not just create new ideas and characters for black, female, gay, and trans characters?
I'm starting to think they are legitimately trying to stir controversy just to get people to pay attention, because otherwise nobody would care.
Pretty much, yeah.It couldn't be because the studios want to use brand recognition to bring eyeballs to the project and a overblown controversy to get people talking about it? Nah, that couldn't be it.
