Doug Walker does indeed live in the Chicago suburbs (don't know where currently, but there's some open-source mapping site where some sperg doxed the addresses of Brad and Spoony). Not sure if Rob lives with him though.

Also, since Gurnee's about a fifty minute drive from Chicago, it's a plausible commute for anyone who lives around that general area. I'd look up more, but it's probably a goose chase, anyway.

I was able to also punch in "Doug Walker" also to a Gurnee, Illinois. I'm pretty sure it's the same Rob.

I'm sorry if I'm late to this thread, but am I the only one who gets the vibe that people will think something is shit just because Doug Walker said so? I can't help but feel that his fans are among the worst examples of sheep I could imagine.

Oh it happens, except in the case of something like James And The Giant Peach, which was apparently well-loved beforehand (I thought it was OK, nowt special). You only need to see those idiots responses to new Adam Sandler/Michael Bay movies to see how much they follow Doug.

Doug's fanbase was the one thing I ignored when I was a regular watcher. It preserved my sanity, but CA's site design was always so shitty that it was impossible not to see autism immediately below the video within minutes of it going up.
His fans seem to spend more time at war with themselves than Doug's opinions, though. Conflict between certain posters over whatever-the-fuck ruled the comment threads on the NC videos for years. The rest was just thoughtless praise - the norm for anyone e-famous.
His "Top Nostalgia Critic Fuck Ups" videos exist because he was angry about people repeatedly isolating his more obvious mistakes. I imagine most those complaints came from the camp of his fans who seem to get off to disliking him and making that clear to anyone who will listen.
Edit: Above all else, though, the success of their crowdfunding efforts is probably the best measure of how "loyal" his fans are.

You should see the forums! All it is is constant warfare, at least it was the last time I looked, the SJWs have massively taken over, driving off the more interesting, sane and entertaining posters, replacing the warzone with constant feminist circle jerks.

Lord in Heaven, has there ever been a forum for any internet critic which hasn't been a total mess? Spoony's forum is the first one that comes to mind. They're designed from the ground-up to be an incubator that produces sympathy from the creator, and this is self-reinforcing: these forums tend to attract either sycophants or spergs looking to pick a fight, so it's not surprising that the admins and users inevitably develop self-destructive "you're either with us or against us" attitudes that crushes reason between their colliding skulls and dooms the place.

Only when the property in question was obscure enough to not develop a fanbase of millennial sperglords. The shots he took at Jim Carrey's The Grinch and James and the Giant Peach were none too popular. But none of these have a thing to do with the quality of Doug's arguments. It's all just because his fans are giant fucking autists and he's done nothing but encourage their spergery since day one.
Those fucking Douchey McNitpick videos make me want to punch Doug in the throat with brass knuckles made from Nick Bate's teeth. Hell, some of the "fuckups" weren't even actual fuckups.
"ZOMG, y'guys, Optimus Prime's death not on the Saddest Deaths list? The Nostalgia Critic is worse than Hitler!" Boo-fucking-hoo. The toy commercial your parents used as a babysitter wasn't properly recognized for its moving drama by some loud, balding loser from Chicago who makes videos on the Internet. I think Ashens is a reviewer who will be around a long time (as long as he wants to keep making videos) because he's critical but he doesn't scream or have weird plot lines taking up half the video, he still manages to be very entertaining, interesting and funny. Also he does unique reviews because he's not reviewing movies or video games, he generally reviews cheap chinese knock off toys, games and food and I don't know of anyone else who is doing that these days because there are 100's of people doing games and movies

I concur. Ashens' style is pretty original, and because he's been around for awhile, it has pretty much become his trademark. Also, he doesn't try and force humor down your throat. He makes jokes in passing a lot, rather than constantly screaming and swearing.

When watching the videos of him reviewing something, be it a Chinese knock-off of Playstation or some cheap toy from the British equivalent to a US dollar store, his jokes are passing as you said. He doesn't try to use some derivative of the AVGN's style but rather just makes some bit of commentary before and after trying out the item in his video. Compare him to all the other critics and Ashens does come off as original.

Even when I used to watch NC years ago. Those "fuck up" videos stood out to me, especially the whole nonsense with Optimus Prime's death. Not putting it in his top ten is not a fuck up, especially since he never grew up with that movie in the first place. Even I thought back then that his fans need to chill out.

Its inclusion just encouraged them from what I remember. They started claiming that Doug not mentioning famous people that appeared in a film was a fuck up.

Like, why the fuck would anyone prefer to parrot someone else's opinion on any form of media than sit down, view it and make your own judgement?
