Strong enough currents and winds could have torn them free of their moorings. Not a nautical guy but a lot of ships are only moored with rope and metal hitches.

A high-end category 4 like this storm is basically amounts to an EF3 tornado, everywhere, at every place, with embedded gusts that can be a low-end EF4 tornado. Just the windspeed alone is insane before you get to the fact the storm is dropping actual tornadoes in addition to pushing a giant fucking wall of water everywhere it goes.

I'm looking forward to the news articles with headlines like, "Ida was a tragedy. Here's why the unvaccinated made it worse."

TBF Weather Channel field reporters have a tendency to exaggerate wind forces.

This is looking like an absolute worst case scenario with an almost dead-on full frontal impact.

The levee system got a 14 billion "upgrade" with the 2008 spending bill. However, the quality of this upgrade was questionable and still barely rated to handle a category 3 storm.

Also, power already being out due to "catastrophic transmission damage" this early is not a good sign. It'll probably be weeks before power is restored and looters will have a field day with any location without power to video cameras. (Those on generators will only last for a few days before going dark from running out of gas.)
