I look forward to it because I love medical shows. They're all so fucking stupid.

Pretty sure I'd get arrested if I stabbed someone in the chest because I thought they had tension pneumothorax.

is it possible to like disney if you weren't exposed as a kid? I never gave two shits about it, if I watch some movies today, what is the likely that I will enjoy it?

already an anime fan btw

I'd say start with the 30s-50s era movies (Snow White, Pinocchio, Bambi, Cinderella, etc.) as they heavily influenced anime in the first place. If they don't appeal to you, I'd say about 90% of their other stuff won't appeal to you either. The other 10% consists mostly of their movies from 2000-2002 and Wreck-It-Ralph. Also, Pixar. Did you grow up with Pixar, or did you ignore that studio as a kid as well? If so, I'm surprised you haven't been crucified by your fellow peers yet.

Same, but I do like Neil Patrick Harris, so it does piss me off a bit.
Same man. He always seems like a great guy in every interview I see with him. Plus, I will always respect him for standing up to the twitter mob and saying it is perfectly okay for straight actors to play gay characters and gay actors to play straight characters and it is all about hiring the best actor for the role.

“I’m not one to jump on to labelling,” he said in a new interview with The Times. “As an actor you certainly hope you can be a visible option for all kinds of different roles. I played a character (in 'How I Met Your Mother') for nine years who was nothing like me"

He added if he were the one casting, he "would definitely want to hire the best actor.”

You'll have to keep in mind Walt Disney was a legit kid at heart, so he had very idealistic views that were there in his work, both animated and live-action (hence the coined term of "Disney magic"). If it appeals to you as an animation fan or if you want some charming cheese, I think you can appreciate his vision. Some of that even still managed to carry over after his death, but it definitely changed during the 2000s.

I guess I grew up with pixar movies at least more than disney, my first movie at the cinema was a bugs life and I loved it to hell, even had the VHS. Also liked Toy Story, UP, Wall E, but never watched anything beyond TS 3.

It is funny because I thought that my favorite animated movies were by disney, but it wasn't done by them (El Dorado and Prince of Egypt). The movie by disney that I remember liking it were Tarzan and Hunchback of Notre Dame. (Some time ago, I did watch the Mulan one and thought not much of it)

You are a person of culture. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Also, don't be ashamed about mistaking those for Disney - people thought Anastasia was Disney for the longest (and still do, as a matter of fact!).

Oh, if you liked those, you'll definitely like at least some of their Renaissance movies (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, etc.) although your mileage may vary on each individual one. I'd also say to give their early 2000s movies a shot (especially Lilo & Stitch. That one, in my opinion, is Disney's best original movie NOT based on a fairy tale, for reasons I've already elaborated on in the past here on this forum so I'll STFU about it now).

I am not sure I will ever get the meme disney magic. I can understand the idealistic view, but I am also a gigantic fan of Osamu Tezuka, I fucking adore the man, and even in his adaptations of similar works that Disney also did it (Pinocchio). He puts the more mature stuff too, to not even talk about his original works that I can sure as hell guarantee that are all over the spectrum of intent, darkness, playfulness and so on, a complete author that could tackle any type of story.

I remember watching Anastasia as a kid and liking the non singing parts and not the animals, it was very pretty and well animated. My favorite take on Anastasia story is and will always be Spring Breeze of Sunegurachika by Hiroaki Samura.

About those other movies, I have the impression that I did watch it when I was a kid but never left me any impression (different from Tarzan and Hunchback from example). I kinda feel like when I first watched harry potter back in the early 00's, I was at the right age (9 years old), when the first movie came out and watched the second too but never got hooked up, even after the teen years when I randomly watched the fifth movie (that people told me was the best) and still never got it.

I guess I will never get the disney magic, the time is over. Just like I never did get the harry potter stuff.

But holy fuck, I went to watch the original version of It is tough to be a god and it sounds so... stiff, there isn't the mischievousness that I was accustomed in each damn line. Gonna try some anastasias songs soon to see if I like it.

It doesn't help now that Disney bought 20th Century Fox, so Anastasia technically is Disney now. The movie's on Disney+ which is bound to cause even more confusion.

I did watch some clips of Anastasia, man the human animation on it is impressive, but I did find the character design quite plain to be honest. The main dude looks like the common 90's pop star. The petersburg song was really cool, the paris song had an amazing use of old paintings, wondering if it was used live action footage as reference for the dances.

I'll always find this interesting. Walt grew up in the time period where humanity's horrors were on full display with mechanized warefare and the Holocaust and that dude was STILL optimistic about the future.

This last year had a comic book talking about the history of animation and it was pretty nice, It didn't focus on Walt, but Walt is a funny character on its own, what a strange man

I'm going to have to find a copy so I can see whether they get anything wrong. I get you have to simplify when you cover so much ground but...

Though I did like their series about comic book history.

Yeah, actually, the dancing was rotoscoped.

I recommend reading with youtube open in the side to look for the examples used, it was pretty cool seeing the images on the pages and the actual animation mentioned.

Figured it was, it was too human like, but it kinda feels that the whole movie was rotoscoped. Actually, disney/fox should do a live action version of this movie instead of the others. This one kinda feels like it would be a bit better without the animals, and they could develop more the historic context of the movie.

Not really surprising, Don Bluth used rotoscoping in other projects to varying degrees. But hell, many Disney movies have done similar by filming a reference for animating a specific scene. Many of them involving, yup, dancing. And Don Bluth is also a former Disney animator so there you go.

IMO his output is much better when he isn't doing faux-Disney, but others may feel differently.

How ironic that decades after his death, the company bearing his name would end up being one of the biggest sources of evil in the modern world.
