Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

The US media didn't have much of a choice but to press Biden since the rest of the world's media were doing that. It doesn't help either that he is refusing to even answer prepared questions nor the fact that his decision left some reporters from US media in danger.

If Newsom is recalled, the new governor will only have ~14 months in office before the next election where they will get handily beat by whoever the official Democratic candidate is if they try to run for a full term. Only ~16 months until this term ends. They might not even run.

Really all Elder could do is fight against the bureaucracy with maybe some successes to get the organizations he controls as governor to not be quite so pozzed.

European media has been kicking Biden's shit in almost as hard as the Taliban. US media gargling Biden's balls would be so fucking obvious in this particular case would completely cripple their credibility.
