Something like this could be passed off as a study of sorts, it's particularly popular with beginner artists who don't have a defined style yet or any sort of mental database built up for original works and it's usually passed off as a learning tool by more experienced artists- after all, they all have to start somewhere. However, I doubt Wedge took the time to build it up from
sketch, to color, to rendering and instead just painted ontop of the picture to pass it off as built from the reference up. What's hilarious to me is that even though Wedge took the easiest fucking option for this "study", the values are muddled to hell and everything looks so goddamn
mushy, and there's no creative liberties taken that would have made the piece more interesting
