If you needed any further evidence that this shit was traced, here you go. I put the trace job on a separate layer over the original image and changed the opacity. The proportions are too accurate to the reference picture (especially for someone at Wedge's skill level). Someone who's better at articulating why this proves the portrait was traced, feel free to elaborate. I'll take my puzzle pieces now.

Something like this could be passed off as a study of sorts, it's particularly popular with beginner artists who don't have a defined style yet or any sort of mental database built up for original works and it's usually passed off as a learning tool by more experienced artists- after all, they all have to start somewhere. However, I doubt Wedge took the time to build it up from sketch, to color, to rendering and instead just painted ontop of the picture to pass it off as built from the reference up. What's hilarious to me is that even though Wedge took the easiest fucking option for this "study", the values are muddled to hell and everything looks so goddamn mushy, and there's no creative liberties taken that would have made the piece more interesting- another indicator he just slapped on a layer of paintbrush and called it his.

I'm very inclined to agree with this. Not paying attention is exactly what it is. He's so stuck in his own little self-centered world, so hyper-focused on whatever's bothering him that day--getting BTFO'd on Twitter earlier, the dress code at work, his future amhole--that he's not paying attention at all. And, again, socially anxious mess, he's probably the type of person who thinks saying, "Sorry, I zoned out for a minute. It's an open wound, and he's forcing hard plastic into it. Of course it hurts like hell, and there's no pleasure. The only part that's supposed to feel good, the prostate, shrivels up on HRT. It's definitely an overpaint. If he was just doing it as an exercise to learn how to block in color, that'd be fine. But if you do that, you don't pass it off as a finished piece. This sort of thing is fine as practice, but it's the sort of thing you delete afterwards, or just file away in your "Studies" folder and don't post it.

It is, but as you alluded to, Wedge and his circle are not serious artists. They're all ripping off other, better artists. If anyone rocks the boat, everybody ends up in the water. Funny would be watching some big-time YouTube artist expose them as tracers. I vote ergojosh: he's brown and so has the minority status going for him, is pretty calm and mild-spoken so he won't come across as fishing for clicks, and he's juuuuuust close enough to the more spergic corners of ArtTube that the message will definitely get out.
