The Burned Furs were just a bunch of dumbass misfits who acted like tools and were appropriately excommunicated because of it. They became a joke almost immediately.

I also think it has to do with the fact that these SJW types have some degree of entitlement issues. Most of them likely feel that the world is ethically obligated to bend backwards for them so they don't ever have to feel bad or improve as people.
If anything, the SJWs should be bending backwards for the rest of humanity, to see what it's really like.

But alas, that's never going to happen, considering that they're this stupid to think furries are an oppressed sub-culture and not just a bunch of people living out their (admittedly questionable) fetish.

The fact that they think they can show up and try to run the place is offensive, and it upsets me that the only people I've seen giving pushback to these pieces of shit are furs that are my age.

...

20 years ago there wasn't an issue with political correctness because people weren't a bunch of pussies. Our community had at least some modicum of respect for each other, even if we disagreed, largely because A) we're all from a different generation and B) nobody was petty enough to be an SJW in 1995. As far as I'm concerned, Fliffums & Co have no place in this fandom. Fuck them and their stupid Tumblr hivemind. Fucking homewreckers.

I know a number of furries in their early to mid 20's who push back against this kind of stuff. Sadly I think most are afraid to be too loud about it out of fear of these whiny cunts and their cronies coming after them.

I have personally crossed paths with a few furry SJW's, and I will agree that "whiny faggots" is probably the best term for them, especially when they're talking about fandom-specific "issues" that they made up themselves. From whining regarding bans of wearing blatant fetish gear in public spaces during cons ("Oppression! These are supposed to be "safe spaces" to show off our kinks!") to getting angry at what other people gender their own characters as. You wanted your sparkledog to have huge tits and a cock? Well the SJW's have decided your character is transsexual, even if you just say they were always that way.

I'm hoping that they'll succeed in creating their own little "safe spaces"/hugboxes/echo chambers to the point that they never come out and we don't have to hear from them anymore.

Heh, that implies they won't migrate to another thing and start this nonsense all over again. The fact that they're bringing back the notion of being persecuted for fucking werebeasts when that ran its course years ago really shows just how much they need to feel attacked and how much they want attention/false power.

And to add to the thread. Jesus honking chris.

It's kind of funny when furries complain about still not being publicly accepted. Like, just because there's more than just one lolcow rich group now doesn't mean people forget the genesis, literally the first one of its kind.
Not only that, but it has a history that's different to those of all the other groups. They tried to fly their freak flag high before anyone else on the internet, before the internet because mainstream and enabled as many people to lead double lives and nurture their inner Weird Shit instead of repressing it like usual. Society snapped at them and they created the internet's Alpha Hugbox, the Echo Chamber Prime. The furry fandom is like a huge cyst at this point.
Probably around about the same time people decided that it was socially acceptable to walk around in public dressed like Klingons. Or openly live their lives by the codes and rules espoused in the books of Gor. This type of shit's present in more fandoms than most people realize.
But none of those are as reviled as furries; they didn't go through the transition to becoming gigantic misfit traps. Speaking of which:
Because of a little thing that's Always Unique Totally Interesting Sometimes Mysterious. Some of them just really don't know that it makes them look retarded.
I can't help but wonder: when did people decide going out in public as a furry was socially acceptable? They do creepy shit and get pissed when people make fun of them for it. I don't hate furries, but they seem way too surprised when that happens.
I don't know if that's how the fandom began but wouldn't be surprised if it does attract a lot of autistic people due to the fandom's indiscriminate inclusiveness (which originates from Geek Social Fallacy #1: Exclusion Is Bad). I remember someone on the old Portal of Evil putting it like this: an autistic person discovering his sexuality is like a person lost in a cave calling out, "IS ANYBODY THERE?" The following is my addition: the first person he finds is a furry and he is lost to us.

I only mentioned the whole thing with being tied into SJWs and the whole "let your freak flag fly" movements that are big in some major cities because that's the kind of thing furries were waiting for. Much like how Chris uses the fact that LGBT communities have an unwritten rule about letting people be no matter how socially unacceptable they are.

You know, back when I was in college I just liked to read comic books with anthropomorphic animals in them, and maybe I had a pinup of Zig Zag. Or two. You know, like a normal comic book nerd.

I don't understand "freak flag" culture, and I don't like it either. (:_(

FurAffinity almost died this weekend because someone was able to take advantage of a exploit that existed in the thumbnail code, causing the server to crash so many times the file system corrupted.

1) The Exploit
We discovered an exploit where a user was uploading had uploaded a modified image that was causing some havoc. The picture was a modified PNG file that had a visible resolution of roughly the size of a thumbnail but was in actuality 65K x 65K resolution, allowing the image to both be uploaded and go unnoticed.

Once uploaded, the submission made its way to the thumbnail service where the system tried to generate a preview and thumbnail. Due to the size of the image (65K) the thumbnail generation attempt would fail. Each attempt required the image unpack to uncompressed state, be resized, then converted to its new format. Each attempt would take 520MB of memory, and once the thumbnail service ran out of memory, it would then start writing requests to the file system causing a severe bottleneck. When this happened, new thumbnails would not generate until the system was able to catch up.

The user in question was repeatedly visiting his exploited submission, causing it to happen multiple times. We believe this to be the root cause of FA's may recent thumbnail issues.

We re-wrote the thumbnail service last night, added additional protections to prevent this from happening and made the system far more efficient for both memory and speed.

2) The File System
The thumbnail storage system was rebooting and crashing when it hit a certain point doing a fsck (a file system check). Each time fsck reached a certain point in the file system FreeBSD would have a Kernel Panic and crash. After many attempts to bring the system back up we decided it was better to format and rebuild the thumbnail system than keep the site offline. We have no reason to believe that this was related to the exploit was just poor timing.

This took time to ensure data integrity of the site, as well as monitor and check the drive's health and to ensure a successful rebuild.

Back in the day all this stuff was stored on one server, but it appears they now run separate drive arrays for thumbnails and actual images. Had someone found out about this three years ago, FA might not be a thing right now.

Who was it? I bet I know who it is. :3

edit: fuck

Back in the day, like when the whole "furry" thing was gaining traction and was becoming more and more prominent online, there was this stupid game that my friends and I would play. We called it something like the "Google Image Search Game". The object was to pick a Pokemon, turn off SafeSearch, and see who could get the farthest (how many rows of results down) before hitting porn. Longest discrepancy won. We also tried playing the opposite, shortest distance wins. Pikachu, Eevee, and some of the other cutesy ones ended up being row-1 victories.

The game evolved as time went on. "How far can you go before hitting yiff" slowly became "how many porn results do you get on page 1 without scrolling". Furries can be gross. :cryblood:

Jesus, the movie isn't even out yet! WTF?!

Sorry for the veeeeeeery late reply!

What upsets me a bit is not that there is already Furry Porn available of it, but rather that it is so easy to find.

With stuff like Sonic or My Little Pony i expect to find porn of it on google image search sooner or later .
But not on something that has been not released, even less on the first page!

I don't mind Furries at all, but damn... Why can't some people keep thier pornstash from deviant art or other sites that are most likely to be listed on google image search?

When you hang around with other people who proudly talk about their weird fetishes all day I guess you become desensitised to porn/bizzare lifestyles.

One thing I don't understand is how does a furry character become popular? They're all the same essentially just with minor differences like tails and ears and sometimes they're sharks for some reason
when the person who made the character gets a shitload of art from popular artists of their character
and if the character is attractive or, at least, fetish fuel
then you have a popular character

Blame the 1960's and underground zines/comix. And cartoons from any generation in general.
