There's a bit of furry drama going down right now.

Apparently the administrators/moderators of Furaffinity and it's forums are leaving. And almost all of them have left so far.

There has been a lot of spam posted, which has resulted in Dragoneer shutting down registration to the forum while he attempts to do damage control. /furry/ seems to largely be organizing it.

So a little backstory here:

Dragoneer (the guy who used to own the site before he sold to IMVU and is now the site's "Director") has become a bit of a paranoid nutjob over the past few years. Since the IMVU takeover, he has been requiring the mainsite's volunteers to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements. This has been more or less a way to try to scare staff into staying quiet about the goings-on behind the scenes more than it is about keeping user data private (Plus, leaked user data in the past has mostly come from him). Apparently earlier this month he decided to start forcing the forum staff to sign these NDA's as well, and they left because they refused to give him copies of their government ID's.

It's worth noting he used to work at Amazon before he started getting paid to run FA and one of the recent news articles mentioned that Amazon uses some of the same tactics. He called Amazon "Soulless and Dystopian" in a comment about one of said articles, but clearly thinks firing your forum janitors for not turning over an ID is A-OK.

Once all the forum mods left, chaos ensued when people realized that the "mods are asleep" more or less. So they killed registration and one of the mainsite admins came over to put out some of the larger fires (and also enforce the "don't talk bad about staff" rule of all things).

I can't help but wonder: when did people decide going out in public as a furry was socially acceptable? They do creepy shit and get pissed when people make fun of them for it. I don't hate furries, but they seem way too surprised when that happens.

I think there's some places where it's just a part of the whole "weird" movement. You know, like that "Keep Austin Weird" thing where there's this whole attitude of weird shit in public being acceptable.

I thought about making a separate thread for this, but decided against it since in the grand scheme of things it's insignificant and doesn't warrant it's own thing. Instead, since it's furry-related I'll just put a synopsis here.

Recently this past week there's been some drama in the Twitter region of the fandom stemming from the user @badfurbgone, which is essentially the furry equivalent of the GameGate block list that got its creator into trouble or whatever. @TheBlockBot (the GamerGate block list) has endorsed @badfurbgone.

Currently, as of this post, @badfurbgone has 56 followers and 31 people on its block list. Here is an archive snapshot of the Twitter profile from a few minutes ago: https://archive.is/ei9QO The people on the shit list range from legitimately bad people (convicted/arrested people) to those who simply disagree with the hivemind and are "transphobic" because of it. Our main man StrikerWolf even made the list for being racist as hell, so these circles are starting to overlap a bit.

This whole thing is an SJW nightmare and the people who manage the block list are about as reasonable and level-headed as you might expect. Allegedly there are 3 other people that manage the block list, but none of them are known at this time. @badfurbgone has been hit with DMCA's and other legal notices since its launch earlier this week. When I went to archive the block bot I was notified that there was a recent save of the page from just a few hours ago, so it sounds like it's still making its rounds among circles.

I don't know much more about it as I've only really heard about this through the grapevine, and am relying on the detective work of other furs and taking their findings as legitimate.

Moving swiftly on, we have the issue of how cephalopods are treated in furry art. I know that most furries prefer mammals (hence the name), but there are few cephalopods in this genre of art, and even then they're usually used for tentacle porn. The fact that they think they can show up and try to run the place is offensive, and it upsets me that the only people I've seen giving pushback to these pieces of shit are furs that are my age. We're on our way out these days and are largely unattached to the fandom as a whole now, and this is what has happened to it after 2 generations.

There's a notable parallel here between Furries and Video games.

With video games a lot of people came in and tried to co-opt it to make it about something else. It had people who previously stated they didn't play video games (Anita) come in and talk about how offensive video games were and how women were being pushed away from it.

I remember Internet Aristocrat did a video specifically on this subject where he likened them akin to wasps. They tried to infiltrate the BDSM community more than 10 years ago and failed. They enter into communities and immediately try to gain attention to themselves by talking about how victimized they are, and in-so doing they make the entire community about them through guilt and white knighting.

This has been happening for a while now and the internet has only really amplified it over the past few years.

At the risk of being a creep I've still been trying to poke around regarding the people behind the block list, if only to better understand the kinds of tools that are taking up residence in the fandom. What follows is 100% secondhand information that I have not been able to appropriately validate.

Fliffums, the owner, apparently let her partner Earsfox join as an administrator of the block list. Days before the block list was started, the two of them got shitfaced and began harassing a small handful of people on Twitter, calling them abusive and enablers and whatnot. Whether or not this led to the creation of the block list I don't know, nor do I know if they got burned so bad in said argument that they made the block list out of pure butthurt. The account(s) of the people involved with this debacle are locked or some of the tweets have been deleted, making the conversation one-sided.

The aforementioned Earsfox allegedly had her Twitter homepage set to a GoFundMe page for helping her and her partner move out of an "abusive situation"; they were asking 10 grand on the panhandling page and allegedly barely had broken three figures. Earsfox removed the link to this page once the shitstorm with the block list flared up.

What bothers me is that I'm a little too close to this drama than I'd like to be, full disclosure. In another subforum here I vented that some SJWs had harassed a person I knew and caused him to shut down his Twitter and his associated content.
