Oh and in case anyone was wondering about that other He-Man show that Netflix is going to shit out...well what did you expect?

The hell is that?

EDIT: You know what I would have liked? If they had just adapted the DC comics run from 2012. It captures the essence of all the characters and does things with them that are interesting while also staying true to the lore and the characters as we know them AND we even get a DC Universe crossover out of it.

And oh hey, I LOVED what the comics run did with She-Ra, Teela, and Shadow Weaver, three great female characters. WHAAAAAAT?!

Yup. Can confirm. There is a genuine issue of addiction in that community. To the point that if you criticize a toy in those groups, they will lose their MINDS on you like you just slapped their mother.
That's the exact opposite of my experience. Talking shit about the toys is almost a prerequisite for being a MOTU fan/collector. To this day, half of them can't decide whether the Dragon Walker is stupid or awesome. 🤔

Her magic power is that she's the re-incarnation of The Goddess and eventually gets corrupted by King Hiss

If they turn her green in this version she's going to look like an Orc.

This is a long established thing in the series like the equivalent of X-Men's The Dark Phoenix. And this whole thing started because the original figure came with a cobra headdress who's lore explanation was axed early on and then later re-integrated.

She also had green skin for some reason in the minicomics that came with the toys in the first year of production (although she didn't expose quite so much of it at the time).

Of course. Far be it that anyone should come up with an original black character in this day and age...

I'm in the "The Dragon Walker is stupid" camp.

It looks even worse in the classic cartoon when they used it as a vehicle. I guess as a "mobile cannon" on the battlefield, it would have more value, but to get from Point A to Point B, they had better options in The Wind Raider, Sky Sled, and Attack Trak.

Scouring through twatter, there seems to only be three types of groups that unironically like this show.

People liking it to support Kevin Smith and to own the "chuds" who are shitting on the show

Shippers from the She-Ra fandom who know fuck all about He-Man and are only watching because they think that the two shows are related therefore more lesbians

And furries oddly enough. Don't know what's going on there.

I don't see why the Vietnam setting couldn't be updated to the suspiciously similar quagmire of Iraq.
*shrug*

I still think the hāfu street rat overcoming racism angle can work too. Joes don’t need to be born Americans to hold and defend American ideals.

Stronk black wymxn
I was surprised to find her not annoying at all. She’s an extremely generic plucky heroine, but that’s actually a good thing in this modern toxic environment. She deserved to be an original character rather than a bargain bin race swap.

Is that supposed to be the sorceress? Honestly, as long as she’s well written then it’s easy to gloss over this. IIRC the 2002 show gave her an ambiguously brown skin color and I don’t recall anybody being upset with that.

And furries oddly enough. Don't know what's going on there.
Beastman, Merman, Cringer, Orko… you’d be amazed/horrified to know how many people want to fuck them.

So create a new character to explore that concept (c.f. your comment on Revelations Andra). Don't cannibalize/parasitize an existing one. One of the great strengths of G.I. Joe is its enormous and diverse roster of characters, ranging from Eskimo hunters to Turkish circus strongmen, Samoan football players, heavy metal-loving scions of samurai bloodlines and many more besides.

Oh Bear did the music?

Yeah, his work was really good too. Another talent being wasted in this show.

You fix the writing and all the tools are there to make something special. Goddamn it.

I think that it’s possible to racebend a fictional character and still be respectful of their history. A key problem with many of these recent racebendings is that they make tons of other mistakes that end up sabotaging any attempts at genuinely non-vengeful representation. Then the creators blame racism when that has nothing to do with it.
Ok but why race swap established characters in the first place? You're saying that introducing a new character is lazy and obtuse but to me that actually takes effort to make work. It's taking an established character and changing their race while pretending to champion "diversity" that's lazy.

They could’ve just fleshed out Clamp Champ. They didn’t because they’re lazy. Usually, I wouldn’t assume this, but Ted from Netflix basically confirmed it himself.

.... The snake lady is Teela, dude.
Eh my bad then, couldn't find anything related to the cover art posted and only founded her old design.

Well, that and that weird Deviantart thing which made me think it was just an AU thing or something.

It's all very confusing for non-die-hard fans of He-Man, from what I've gathered together it seems that it was a backstory for the Sorceress and Teela where they were the same entity at some point but were separated by Skeletor and the other half we know as Teela was raised by Man-At-Arms.

This was all in some old comics and supposably this is different from their backstory in the show where they are just daughter and mother.

But this backstory had nothing to do with King Hiss and in the DC comics (where that cover came from) it seems that she was changed to be her own separate entity.

It's all very confusing and would imply that the new show will stick to the backstory of the original comic.
Also, I wouldn't doubt they would add this backstory to He-Man revelation because they added a lot of other shit from the comics haphazardly.
